**"Dolores Claiborne: A Captivating Monologue"**

The story of "Dolores Claiborne" is told through a captivating monologue. Elderly Dolores Claiborne is giving her statement to the police after her wealthy employer is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. Despite the suspicious circumstances surrounding her husband's death in the past, Dolores has a lot to say.

Selena, her eldest daughter, is different from most kids her age. Instead of running away from adults, she would listen intently to their conversations. This shows the special bond between Dolores and her daughter.

The entire book is an afternoon interview that lasts just over nine hours. Frances Sternhagen, the actor, brings Dolores to life with her gifted performance. Her language and accent add to the authenticity, making it feel like we are listening to a real Maine islander.

King's writing is unique, with vivid descriptions that paint a clear picture in our minds. For example, his description of the bank manager rubbing his hands together is both humorous and vivid.

Dolores also shares memories of her own upbringing, including an incident where her father pushed her mother for not having dinner ready. These memories give us insight into her past and how it has shaped her into the person she is today.

Overall, "Dolores Claiborne" is a compelling story that keeps you engaged from start to finish. Whether you read the text or listen to the audiobook, you are sure to be entertained.

Barfele dintr-un orasel mic sunt irezistibile. Cand moare Vera, menajera ei, Dolores Claiborne devine suspectata din nou.

\\"There are some times in a person's life that don't have no real minutes in em, so you can't count em up\\"

When the police question Dolores Claiborne about the death of her employer, her response is completely unexpected. Two officers and a stenographer listen intently as she begins to tell her story. And what a remarkable story it is! With no chapters and almost entirely one long monologue, filled with a heavy accent and often unrefined language, I found this book to be a truly enjoyable read. The thrilling and mysterious connections to the previous book, Gerald's Game, add depth and intrigue to the story in just a few words.

This is another book that I have upgraded from a three-star rating that my younger and less discerning self remembered it as, to a full five stars. Ignore the naysayers and trust me when I say that this is one of the best in Stephen King's amazing catalog. And be sure to read it along with its sister story, Gerald's Game!

Twenty-nine years ago, when Chief of Police Bisset, from here, was in first grade and still wore short pants, I killed my husband…». Dolores Claiborne, 66 years old today, many years after the death of her husband, is being interrogated for yet another death. That of Vera Donovan, for whom she worked as a housekeeper for over forty years.

In 'Dolores Claiborne', Stephen King borrows the voice of his heroine and speaks to his reader in the first person. It is Dolores Claiborne who - in front of the interrogating officials - tells the story of her life, in medias res, starting from the announcement of the murder of her husband and descriptively detailing all those events that led her to this decision. Dolores Claiborne is a (seemingly ordinary;) patient woman. She is tested daily, at home, by a husband who is not there to support her but to burden her even more (formerly an alcoholic, probably abusive and many other things that I will refrain from mentioning here as they would be spoilers) and at work by a demanding, despotic and eccentric employer. Dolores Claiborne can endure a lot, but not everything. And when she learns the truth, it is already too late for more patience.

In 'Dolores Claiborne', you will not encounter supernatural beings ('It') and otherworldly creatures ('The Mist', 'Salem's Lot'). 'Dolores Claiborne' has nothing to do with stories from the realm of the fantastic and with myths from the world of horror. Nevertheless, the reader is scared. It is the fear that one feels when thinking about how far or how 'deep' a person can go when driven by their anger (justified or not); how much one can endure being tested by the trials and tribulations of life and facing stoically a dark daily life that is not worth it; how powerful and 'deadly' the love of a true mother for her children is.

I don't remember seeing the film adaptation of the book with the excellent Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh and I definitely haven't read 'Gerald's Game', the King novel that is 'bound by blood' to 'Dolores Claiborne'. Both are on my 'Soon to' list. 4.5*.
