Dolores Claiborne is a truly weird little book.

I don't quite know how to explain it precisely.

First of all, it has no distinct chapters or page breaks.

It feels more like an extra long monologue rather than a traditional novel.

Dolores Claiborne has endured a very hard life. She got married to a drunk who couldn't hold down a job when she was just 18 years old, all because she was pregnant. Over the past almost 40 years, she has worked as a housekeeper for a very wealthy yet mean old lady. She is also estranged from her kids. Clearly, she is just not a very happy person.

The novel is centered around Dolores Claiborne sitting in a police station and telling the police her entire life story.

But why is she doing this?

It's because they suspect that she murdered the mean old lady she worked for.

And why do they think that?

Well, it's because the whole town believes that she murdered her husband 30 years earlier.

This book isn't a typical horror novel, but the subject matter is indeed horrifying. Since it's by Stephen King, there are ALL THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! This book is extremely DARK! It can be a hard book to read at times. However, Stephen King manages to create such an alive and vivid world solely through Dolores' words. Despite the fact that Dolores is simply talking us through her life, I could clearly see and feel every single experience she described.

This book really took me by surprise. I enjoyed it much more than I had expected. I only read Dolores Claiborne because I heard it was a kind of companion book to Gerald's Game and I was curious to know how they were connected. I'm really glad I read this book and I look forward to watching the movie...someday.

I haven't read King for so long that I didn't even notice how much I missed it and how I longed for it.

It's like coming back home and it was wonderful.

What impressed me the most was how King delicately and understandingly described women's problems.

Yes, as if he was in a woman's shoes and felt what it's like to be an ordinary woman who is completely dependent on a man and fulfills the obligations imposed by society, without having any right to self-expression.

But this story is not only about the difficult life of women.

It's a story about maternal love.

All-encompassing, blind, terrifying, sacred.

What mothers are willing to do for the sake of their children is truly frightening.

Such women are extremely strong.

And also, this is a story about murder(s) and the fate of chance.

As always, unsurpassed

Continuing on my journey of reading/re-reading all of SK's books in publication order, I came across something a little different from his normal writing style.

You might assume that this book would have a slow pace since it consists of just one continuous monologue and no chapters. However, it was incredibly addictive. As I read SK's books in order, I couldn't help but be reminded of Gerald's Game, and then there was an actual connection made between the two, which I adored. What a great way to connect the SK universe!

"Sometimes you have to be a high-riding bitch to survive. Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hold onto."

Dolores is such an interesting character. She is a no-nonsense bad-ass, and I love it. There are huge similarities between Dolores and Vera, which I appreciated. Dolores' character voice was written in such a way that I could easily have been convinced that this was non-fiction and she was a real person! There weren't any big twists or turns; it was a much more realistic story than other SK stories, but these are the kind that I really enjoy.

I had a really good time reading this book. It wasn't perfect, but I was fully engrossed until the very last page. It offered a unique perspective and a different kind of storytelling that added to the overall charm of SK's works.

I thought I had read this one but I didn't.

Now I realize that I not only need to read it but also watch the movie.

This book has a very interesting literary style. There are no chapters, and it reads like one giant monologue.

This makes me sad because I didn't discover it in high school when I was in need of monologues for drama class.

The ending was also excellent. It's a great Stephen King story for any King lover.

I'm looking forward to experiencing it again in a different form.

I'm sure the movie will bring this story to life in a whole new way.

It will be interesting to see how the director interprets the characters and the plot.

I can't wait to watch it and compare it to the book.

Maybe I'll discover something new and exciting that I missed in the book.

Overall, I'm very glad that I finally got around to reading this book and I'm looking forward to watching the movie.

I must admit that at first, it seemed like a jumble of things to me, but little by little, it won me over.

This novel became frenetic, and Dolores managed to conquer me.

Now, I will never look at an eclipse in the same way again.

It is highly recommendable!

Expanding on this, when I initially started reading, I was a bit confused by the various elements presented. However, as I delved deeper into the story, its intensity grew. The character of Dolores was so captivating that she drew me in completely.

The description of the eclipse in the novel was so vivid that it has forever changed my perception of such an event.

I would highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for an exciting and engaging read.

It has the power to transport you to another world and make you see things from a different perspective.

Whether you are a fan of romance, adventure, or mystery, this novel has something for everyone.

So, give it a try and let yourself be swept away by its charm.

Fascinating story and such a strong voice.

Since this story is pretty much an obvious one, centered on what appears to be a solid who-done-it. However, it's just the devil in the details where we have to place all our attention.

Will this be a rubbernecking event? Or is an obviously guilty woman obviously and truly guilty with the crime she is being accused of?

Truly, the story is a lot more complex and interesting than any first glance. And more than anything, we're meant to get in deep within Dolores's skin.

Classic SK, not supernatural, but absolutely an awesome character slide.

Is that the sound of a vacuum cleaner? lol I'm such a bitch. :)

This story has the power to draw readers in and make them question everything. The details are crucial in understanding the true nature of the events and the characters involved. We can't just take things at face value.

As we delve deeper into Dolores's world, we discover a web of emotions, motives, and secrets. It's a journey that keeps us on the edge of our seats, eager to uncover the truth.

SK has once again proven his ability to create a captivating story that goes beyond the surface. It's a testament to his talent as a writer.

And that comment about the vacuum cleaner? Well, it just adds a touch of humor to the whole experience. :)

I'm not a big fan of Stephen King, but I absolutely adored this novel. We follow the long confession of Dolores as she tells us about her life. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. In terms of form, it reminded me of a Spanish novel whose name escapes me at the moment, which tells the life of a character in the form of a long monologue. The language used really gives the sensation of a dialogue between the reader and Dolores. Stephen King has done an excellent job of描绘 an overlooked figure in the American dream.

Every time I read one of Stephen King’s books, I am firmly convinced that the scariest monsters are, in fact, people. It's not ghosts, ghouls, vampires, werewolves, or any other fictional creatures that send shivers down my spine. No, it's the real, flesh-and-blood people who have the potential to be truly terrifying.

This story, in particular, took me completely by surprise. When I first picked it up, I wasn't expecting the kind of spooky experience that I usually associate with King's works. Instead, I was drawn into a very complicated and immersive exploration of human nature. There is a thin psychological layer to this book, as it is written as the confession of one woman. While not a whole lot of things seem to be happening on the surface, the way the author manages to grab your attention is truly remarkable. It's what makes this book so unusually refreshing.

The narration is slow and detailed, which might seem off-putting at first. But as you get deeper into the story, you realize that you are so invested in the characters and their lives that you simply can't put the book down. Mr. King, you have truly outdone yourself with this one. Dolores Claiborne is a one-of-a-kind book that deserves to be treated as a modern classic. It's a masterful work that delves deep into the darkest corners of the human psyche and leaves you with a sense of unease long after you've turned the last page.
