I think reading it on Christmas Eve made it more sentimental than it would have been any other day if the year. Favorite quote: "and the fourth dream was simply green. he had never seen green before."
It was.....interesting. The backstory is fascinating - illustrations first, and then making up a story to go along with them. But some parts of the story seemed like they were stretching to try to include the pictures, and the story overall was... well, it was interesting. It's not to my taste, but that's not to say that it was bad.
Absolutely wonderful. Kurt Vonnegut relates the story of the first Christmas, and in it captures the very humanity of Jesus. For me, I think that this shows the wonder and mystery of life in a perfect way.
Tracked down a mint copy of this in time for Christmas this year. Shared it with my children. The pictures and words are both simple, but I was drawn to how that simplicity, so well crafted, brought a real humanity to the Christ child. There is a passage when Jesus first sees Mary, and Vonnegut states (as only he can) in one simple sentence the immensity of love a child feels for its mother. Powerful.
