I have finished only Vol. I of this complete edition and it still feels like climbing a two-storey building, while level 0 is already decorated with an excellent introduction and interpretation of Platos political philosophy and it’s „enemies“ with regard to a foundation of a theory of society and state. As it turns out, Platos’ approach is - in Poppers interpretation - an alternative concept to an open society that is governed by rational criticism and that take a clear stance against historicism. This book is not only a seminal reader of the Ancient Greek philosophy but also consists of a treasure of knowledge to fend off arguments of populism, to challenge narcissism in leadership and to make clear the antecedents of an open society. It’s worth of reading twice, after some time I will re-read and complete also Vol. II which will enlarge my understanding of Hegels and Marx‘ political philosophy; and in order to move one level upstairs.
