I liked these books but I got tired of the pointless stuff that she would make up that didn't have to do with shopping. But they're fun quick books to read.

I was perusing the Kindle portion of our library's website looking for a light read. When I saw that they were offering the 5 book Shopaholic series as one checkout I thought, "Why not?" So I started reading.

I just finished the 3rd book and I'm not sure I'm going to read 4 and 5.

I've never disliked the main character as much as I dislike Rebecca Bloomwood. She's lazy, she's stupid, she's a pathalogical liar, she makes the most ridiculous decisions and justifies every one, she doesn't learn from her mistakes (and trust me, she's got a lot of them) but yet everyone loves her and she's supposed to be the quirky, likeable sweetheart who has good intentions. In the books she wins over everyone she comes across but I sit and am dumbfounded at why anyone would like her. Especially due to the lying. She lies to everyone she loves about everything, and they all just laugh it off. Then everything always works out for her regardless of the poor choices she makes. I kept thinking, "She'll change. It'll get better. She's going to have a rude awakening and she'll see how horrible she's been." But no. She made a terrible mess of her life in book 3 and I thought, "This is it. She's going to have to own up to her shortcomings, admit she was wrong, hurt someone she loves and take responsibility for it." But in the end the ones that matter don't even know what she did since she hid it all, and those who do know think she's "clever" for how she covered it up. Give me a break. Absolutely ZERO consequences? I mean, I know it's a shopaholic series and isn't meant to be some downer, but I can't stand reading a book that doesn't try to be realistic. I can accept idealistic love stories and the 'wrap it up in a pretty bow' mentality, but this is over the top. She lies to her boyfriend about what she spends (his money included) and he thinks it's cute. She lies to her best friend about what she buys, who she's with, what she's doing, and where she's been and the friend just says "That's Becky." She lies to her parents about why she's in trouble and leads them to believe her banker is stalking her, and they laugh it off. Ugh. Give me some form of realism.

I gave the book 2 stars because the story isn't terrible and it's written well. I just can't stand the main character, therefore it's not all that fun to read. If she had some long-standing consequences or maybe learned a little from what she's done, it wouldn't be so bad. But each book starts out with her just as bad as she was in the last one, despite all she went through. Completely unlikable. And not in a fun "I-love-to-hate-her" way.

I wouldn't recommend.

These books are all nice easy reads, but not exactly book club material. The main character can be frustrating in her inability to actually do what she keeps telling herself to do. Nice for mind-numbing entertainment.

Loved, loved, loved these books! My friend introduced me to Sophie Kinsella and I have yet to be disappointed. Any woman that loves to shop could relate to this book. Very easy read but hard to put down.

How in the world does a lying shopaholic like Becky get a rich catch like Luke? Read them, written well, but so dislike the main character.

Total "Chick read" for summer. One of my favorites. Maybe I'm liberal w/the 4 stars, but they are so fun to read!
