I liked the first book, but as the series went on, Kinsella's books kinda lowered on the ratings.
First of all, I liked how Becky was pregnant, but maybe is Sophie had shown a little more maturity on the protagonists part, i would have believed that she was actually ready to be a mom.
Also, there was basically no romance between Luke and Becky, which got to me.
Another thing was that, Becky's shopping obsession was supposed to be something funny and something that shapened Becky to be who she was. However, I think the author made Becky a little dumb in this book. Just because Becky likes to shop doesn't mean she turns into a total ignorant dumbo. especiall since she's having a baby!
Overall, I think the book was hilarious (especially the baby names bit!), but the protagonist ruined it for me. Becky had gone from bubbly, excitable and fun to read about, to stupid, inconsequental and immature. And, I'm sorry, but was Luke always so boring????
Nice books, amazing writing, hilarious, but the character lacked too much depth for me...

Sometimes I find the shopaholic books hit or miss. This one was a miss for me. I did not like the frivolous way that Becky behaved. I always find her odd and flighty, but this story made me totally confused. I understand the doubts and nerves of gaining baby weight and yet, she takes it to the extreme. I found her to be even more self-absorbed while she should have been focusing on the baby, and Luke.

As I said, a miss. I am not sure I am going to continue with the rest of the books. Maybe it is time to retire the shopaholic and focus on another quirky addiction.

Jar of Death Pick #17
ChickLit A Thon: Read a Sophie Kinsella book

The Shopaholic series is what some people would call a "guilty pleasure" but since I don't believe in "guilty pleasures" I simply call it a pleasure.

Becky Bloomwood - Brandon is a compulsive shopper and I love her. I too love to shop, I have a second closet filled with clothes, shoes and bags that still have to tags on them. I learned this behavior from the best, my mother. My mother spent the last 30 years of her life battling a terminal illness, so she lived everyday like it was her last because it could have been. She bought what she wanted, she simply lived life to the fullest and she raised me and my sister the same way. She also taught us how to budget so we wouldn't end up in debt.

Unfortunately no one ever taught Becky about budgets. In Shopaholic & Baby Becky is you guessed expecting a baby. So naturally she needs to buy everything a baby could ever need and a lot of things a baby will never need. Becky is a lunatic and that's what makes her so much fun. These books are just frivolous fun and sometimes we need that.

A great series but not for everyone

Hilarious book! Cried laughing at some sections, got mad in others, heart warmed almost all throughout. Such a wonderful, fun book!

Becky Brandon only wants the best for her unborn child. You know what that means, right? Shopping, of course! She goes a bit overboard with excessive purchases, and wants celebrity obstetrician Venecia Carter. What she doesn't know about Venecia is that she's Luke's ex-girlfriend! Becky is convinced that Venecia is going after her husband. Usually these books involve Becky overreacting about things, but for once she's not. Yes, she does about other things throughout the book, but Venecia really is the worst!

Becky and Luke are back in another hilarious book in the Shopaholic series. As their relationship is progressing, now they are expecting a baby. Becky wishes to know the sex because (of course), shopping! Luke wants it to be a surprise. Couldn’t stop laughing at the scene at the doctor’s office (the narrator in this one does a fantastic job as well!) Additionally, they need to move into a house now that the baby is coming (more issues to negotiate) and when Becky finds out that there is a “obstetrician for the stars” she can have rather than her fussy old family obstetrician, she connives a way to get an appointment… only to find out the new doctor is Luke’s ex… awkward. Venetia the obstetrician is so horrible that I can’t even, and the scenes with her and Becky made me shiver. Sophie Kinsella completely has a gift for writing villains that make you want to throw the book across the room! I loved that Becky and Suze were back together in this one, and also that she and her sister had a warmer relationship as well. So many hilarious scenes, particularly at the baby shopping market.

I think this was my least favorite of the Shopaholic books. This girl just never learns - which is why there is always a new book I suppose. I guess it was cuter for her to be so awful with managing her life when she wasn't bringing a child into the equation. It was still a fun read but I definetly did not get the pleasure from this title that I did from her other books. I just want to shake Becky and tell her to grow up already!

I am in love with their babies name: Minnie.

Wow, okay, so for this reread I definitely upped the star rating and I actually enjoyed it way more. It could've been me working out today, the football games, my dads chili, Netflix, or the wine I drank today. Either way I don't mind and I'm not going to question anything about it.

Now, Shopaholic & Baby was really really freaking adorable. So fucking sweet. I loved everything about it - well, except for Luke's ex-girlfriend Venetia. I can't believe I'm saying this but can I get the ever annoying Alicia back in my life?!? I at least expect her to be super bitchy - but this new character was just so fucking annoying. It frustrated the hell out of me how Luke is so fucking blind. Can someone get him an eye appointment?!? Or a bullshit meter?!? Seriously this guy is so fucking naïve about these girls in his life and it always ends up hurting Rebecca in some way.

I really hope Luke steps up his game in the next book. I hope Rebecca stays just the way she is ..well maybe not spend as much money as she did before. Then there's their baby and I cannot wait to read about her in the next book. I need more information about her. I wonder if she's going to be a mini shopper like Rebecca - I kind of hope she goes apeshit with the shopping but then I don't because I will sort of freak out about it..

Idk. I hope I like it better than I did the first time.

I feel like I'm ready to part ways with the "Shopaholic" series. Becky hasn't matured or learned her lessons at all since the first book and its seriously starting to grate my nerves. How many times is she going to get herself into ridiculous predicaments (mountains of shopping debt, 2 weddings, fake labor) and then magically get herself out of it with a case of pure luck?
