Sophie Kinsella first hit the UK bestseller lists in September 2000 with her first novel in the Shopaholic series – The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (also published as Confessions of a Shopaholic). The book's heroine, Becky Bloomwood – a fun and feisty financial journalist who loves shopping but is hopeless with money – captured the hearts of readers worldwide. Becky has since featured in seven further bestselling books, Shopaholic Abroad (also published as Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic & Sister, Shopaholic & Baby, Mini Shopaholic, Shopaholic to the Stars and Shopaholic to the Rescue. Becky Bloomwood came to the big screen in 2009 with the hit Disney movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy.

Sophie has also written seven standalone novels which have all been bestsellers in the UK, USA and other countries around the world: Can You Keep A Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me?, Twenties Girl, I've Got Your Number, Wedding Night, and My Not So Perfect Life, which was a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist for Best Fiction in 2017.

In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me).

Sophie's latest novel, Surprise Me, published in February 2018, presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist. The Tennis Party was immediately hailed as a success by critics and the public alike and became a top ten bestseller. She went on to publish six more novels as Madeleine Wickham: A Desirable Residence, Swimming Pool Sunday, The Gatecrasher, The Wedding Girl, Cocktails for Three and Sleeping Arrangements.

3,4 stars.
A parte que mais me aborreceu neste livro foram as cartas/e-mails ridículos que Rebecca escreve.
Aqui voltamos a ver uma Rebecca mais matura, menos egoísta e mais "normal".
Kinsella exagera na personagem de Rebecca.

I loved to see how Jess' and Becky's friendship had developed and one their scene together was my favorite in this whole book. I also enjoy scenes with Becky's mother and Janice, they can be so hilarious at the best.

This was again fun & light but had so much new as well so didn't feel like something you have seen already in this series.

I really enjoyed, this one was nice addition to the series and entertaining.

This book was so cute it took me awhile to finish it only because there are some problems with the two main characters. But I still love them. I’m loving this series so much it makes my bad days seem better when one of them makes me laugh. I’m looking forward to the next book.

A pregnant Becky is twice as annoying as regular Becky.
Luke, my boy, I really feel for you.

I'm enjoying the Shopaholic series more and more the deeper I get. It has finally segued from her spending addiction to the root of her problem which is poor impulse control. And when someone has minimal self-control, we all know the messes they can get themselves into lol. Becky's impulses always get the best of her but her happy attitude, out-of-the-box thinking, and sheer determination never fail to get her out every time. And I absolutely loved Luke in this one. We don't see enough of him in this series but I thoroughly enjoyed getting a few more glimpses of his character.

My star ratings are increasing and I am officially excited to continue the series!

My favorite quote:
“Make-up artists should hereby get the Nobel prize for adding to human happiness. And so should hairdressers. And so should Luke.”

I had the misfortune of buying this book before a long flight to Europe. Due to a lack of alternative entertainment, I read the book from cover to cover. While the book had some funny excerpts, my extreme dislike for the main character (Becky Brandon) overshadowed any enjoyment garnered from the book.

Rather than being lovable, I found Becky to be irresponsible, annoying and pretentious. For example, after Becky's husband explains that his company is "hemorrhaging money" and asks her to reign in her spending, Becky responds by hiding her purchases from him. How very responsible of her, indeed.

Of course, I realize the book is of the chick lit genre, but it would have been nice to have a modicum of reality intermixed with the fiction.

To me, Becky represents the irresponsible consumerism that has resulted in the current credit crisis, and frankly, I don't find anything laughable about that. Kinsella appears to have mailed in this book, and it's evident that she exercised the same level of brain power as possessed by her heroine in thinking through the plot.

Becky Bloomwood is pregnant! Of course, these fashionable mom would only want the best and most beautiful for her kid. After learning that shopping is the best cure for her morning sickness and preggy cravings, she couldn't wait to go hunting for baby stuffs! And then there's the inevitable monthly doctor's appointment so she and Luke could checkup on their baby. But wait, what's this? Becky's OB gynecologist is none other than Luke's ex-girlfriend. And a very glamorous and fashion trendy doctor at that! Insecurity slowly creeps through Becky's veins. Now that the ex is back, will Luke finally turn her eyes back to the doctor, especially since Becky feels ugly and looks bloated all the time?

Oh this has been another hilarious Becky-filled book. Pregnant Bloomwood is even scarier than jobless Becky, in my opinion, but she's still as sweet as she can ever be. She even made me think about the times when I was pregnant with my three kids. I was insecure and angry most of the time. Good thing my kids came out fine (LOL). But her encounter with Luke's ex was really something - I think it made her even more human and hysterical and likeable at the same time. Thanks Sophie Kinsella, I never had a dull moment whenever I read your books!
