Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors, and the Shopaholic series my favorite books. . I find them witty, humorous, exciting, and so much fun to read! I personally find Becky to be the perfect blend of silly and intelligent. I find all the characters relatable and I think their flaws make them all the more endearing. Although I am definitely not a shopaholic, I could completely relate to the character and I LOVE Luke and their relationship. I get so into the stories I find myself angry or laughing right along with the characters. Sophie is a brilliant author who knows the perfect recipe to a great story. I think that if you are a super serious person who enjoys heavy books this might not be for you. But if you have a sense of humor and enjoy reading about funny characters and humorous yet realistic events, then you will love this book as much as I do!

This was actually my favorite book in the series because there were some real issues in their relationship (I got so upset for Becky!) and some actual danger involved that I found super exciting! And I just love seeing Luke scared and protective of Becky. Their decorations of love always get me giddy..... :)

I don't know why but for some reason I liked this book better the second time around. I read this book 5 or 6 years ago and I didn't love it. Shopaholic & Sister has always been my least favorite. I almost skipped rereading it but I decided to give it another shot. I'm glad I did because I found this book to be so charming and now I can't remember why didn't like it the first time.

Shopaholic & Sister is book 4 of the Shopaholic series starring Becky Bloomwood. I'm gonna state facts here Becky is fucking lunatic. She the kind of person that I hope only exists in a work of fiction. Becky is a degenerate shopping addict and she's spoiled rotten.

And Yet....

I love her and I love this series. The Shopaholic series is a fun, fast paced read. I like to think of it as Literary Cotton Candy. It's not good for you but it sure does taste good.

I really enjoyed this installment. Becky is her frustrating and endearing self and I liked how her relationship issues were portrayed here, be it love, friendship and family. This one was fun because even though I could still relate a lot to Becky it felt more in a balanced way (since Jess is a great example of the other extreme).

After the ‘not so good’ review I gave Shopaholic ties the Knot, I was rather hesitant to read the next Shopaholic book, which is Shopaholic and Sister. By the third book, all readers following these series know that Becky Bloomwood is an only child, so the title of the fourth book does stir up some curiosity.
Well, to sum up my reaction to this book…..I must declare that KINSELLA IS BACK! The author is just as witty and humorous as the first two Shopaholic novels, and I truly enjoyed reading her fourth book!
One of my favorite scenes is reading Becky’s obsession with acquiring the limited edition ‘Angel Bag’. Becky compares the rarity of the Angel Bag to the Bengal Tigers, wherein she describes the former as being even more extinct! So true! I have had many experiences like this in my when I justify my shopping splurges with ‘I have to have this no matter what!’ or ‘this is a collector’s item!’ These are what I call the ‘FF’ moments…aka Fashion Fanaticism!
I also enjoyed the introduction of Jessica, who is Becky’s long lost sister. She is also a fascinating character, and it is really nice to see how different she is from Becky, which often results into petty arguments between the two! Note that Ms. Kinsella barely made mention of Danny, who is Becky’s NYC best friend. Thank goodness! He was absolutely annoying in the previous Shopaholic book that I truly wished he would not appear in the future novels. Perhaps Ms. Kinsella received a lot of negative feedback on him. There is also more of Suze in this book, who is Becky’s longtime best friend. I like her, and she is definitely more endearing in this novel.

Becky Bloomwood found out that she has a long lost sister! Usually, you would think that you guys would have so much in common, since she IS your sister. However, Becky finds out the hard way that Jessica probably isn't the perfect sibling she wished for. Becky loved the sophisticated life of drinking 7 dollar coffees, shopping on expensive designer brand streets, and buying things she really doesn't need. Jess...was the opposite. She hated the lifestyle of Becky. As a matter of fact, she didn't buy things that she didn't need, she always made her own coffee, and made dumbbells out of water bottles and sand. Becky felt so down at this moment of her life. Her "long lost" sister hated her, found her annoying. Even her best friend, Suze, found a new best friend, after having 3 kids. Becky couldn't find someone to relate to. I've definitely felt that a couple times in my life, where I feel so isolated and alone that I just don't know what to do. And even though you try to fix a relationship with someone, it's never going to work out.

"Every girl needs a best friend."

During the entirety of this book, I had the following phrase repeatedly creating a spot in my mind, "It's all in your head."

Shopaholic & Sister is my first ever Sophie book & I enjoyed reading it by the end. Since I'm not actually a remarkably brand-conscious individual nor an avid shopper, the first half was getting on my nerves, all gratitude to Becky. I couldn't comprehend how one could be so ignorant & frantic to go & shop all the time. But once Becky's sister entered the account, I couldn't resist laughing at all the silliness.

I would like to thank the library, Books on the Move, for making it feasible for me to read the writer's book.

Actually, it's a light read, but I don't suppose I'll ever re-read this one. This is book four in the series, yet, I could read it as a standalone without any connection to the last narratives.
