i love ed and al even more with every single volume <3 i was genuinely so happy reading this because i simply adore them. also i loved that we got a better insight into their history/childhood at the end!!
I love how this story shows every single point how Al and Ed, the times when they're funny, or caring, or occasionally badass when it comes down to it. Izumi Curtis was introduced this volume, and she's one of my favorite characters in the anime, so I am very exited. Knowing the story does not make this less interesting in the slightest. (The cover is really stupid though)
This might be favorite volume yet (I think I started with too many stars! There's nowhere to go!) It's been a few books since the boys really used their alchemy interesting ways, but here there are a lot of cool uses of powers. And there is my new hero, Winry Rockbell, deciding that if she can be an awesome cybernetics mechanic, she can for damn sure deliver a baby if circumstances require. Also, this volume gets into the boys' personal history and introduces their mentor/substitute mom. I love how no-nonsense the women in these stories are, and how the boys really act like the (often bratty, mood-swingy) teenagers that they are. This series is so fun and creative with a huge range of tone -- from funny/wacky to dark and metaphysical, often within the same chapter.
Winry and the Elric brothers travel to see the brothers’ teacher. On the way, they stop in a town that’s a mecca for automail. They meet an adorable pickpocket and come across the family of a great automail engineer.
The pickpocket’s story is quite sad. We keep meeting victims of the war with Ishalban (spelling?).
Izumi is a great character! So far, this Shonen has the best female characters that I’ve seen. I want to know everything about Izumi. She’s a total badass and her story is so interesting!
This series is amazing and I wish I owned the other twenty volumes already. The fifth volume of Fullmetal Alchemist focusses on the miracle (and tragedy) of human life - it is easily created yet also easily lost. This volume also sees Winry grow into a more all-round character and introduces some more kick-ass ladies. I cannot wait to see more of Ed and Al's journey.
Alright, so this first starts off with Ed, Al, and Winry traveling to Rush Valley. Rush Valley is basically a town full of automail mechanics and automail limbs. Again, side characters poke fun at Ed's shortness and Al's hugeness, which is always fun to read about! While in Rush Valley, Ed gets robbed of his State Alchemist watch by a girl named Bunny. It was suspenseful (not to mention funny too!) to watch Ed chase Bunny because, well.......he sucked. Ed got help from Al and Winry and caught Bunny. Turns out, Bunny has two automail legs. Bunny takes Ed, Al, and Winry to the man who made her legs. They meet the man, named Tommy, and his daughter, Sadila and her husband, Lear. Ed and Al marvel at how Sadila is pregnant and due soon. I felt bad for them though as they made remarks about how they were like that in their mom's stomach......I related to Winry though when she was a nerd about automail to Mr. Tommy (like I am with planes!) and how she was passionate when she spoke. While they were staying at Mr. Tommy's place, Sadila gave birth! Winry's parents were military doctors, so Winry helped with the birthing. Ed and Al were very excited and interested in the baby, and Ed was comparing it to alchemy and how alchemists can't create life but a mother can. Ed though got mad at Winry though for opening his watch that had a secret in it. Ed forgives Winry and promises that he will become stronger. On Ed and Al's next trip they travel to Dublth to look for their old master. They find her, and ask her about the Philosopher's Stone. She tells them she met their dad, Hoenhaim who was into stones. Ed demonstrates his alchemy after not seeing his master a while, but she is shocked to see that he doesn't need to use a circle to transmute like a normal alchemist. Their master eventually finds out that they committed the ultimate taboo, like she once did to try and bring back her dead baby. Then chapter 21 is a whole flashback of how Ed and Al decided to resurrect their mother. I can relate to them though by wanting to bring a dead family member back. Overall, this volume was quite relatable and fun to read.
"The spirit becomes memories, living in the minds of people. Everything changes the sames as with human life.".
