Ed and Al continue their search for the Philosophers stone, but they are put off their path by Lin causing more trouble and Homunculi also fighting Colonel Mustang’s men, Al and Colonel Mustang himself, being beaten but coming back and killing one of the Homunculi, all while Ed was off in the desert meeting 2nd lt. Ross after her faked death. Another exciting volume with things being reveled about the so called invincible and unbelievable Homunculi. The regular characters were interesting and cool throughout the volume such as Ed, Al, Colonel Roy Mustang, Lt. Hawkeye and Winry, but other characters such as Lin, Lanfan and Barry the Chopper who played a pretty big part until he basically died. Fullmetal Alchemist has 16 more volumes until the story ends so keep reading.
Nastavljamo priču nakon ubistva potpukovnika Hjuza. Mustang samostalno istražuje ubistvo, a braća Elrik još uvek ne znaju za smrt prijatelja. Mračne sile konačno izlaze u javnost. Dobijamo dosta akcije, adrenalina i šokantnih saznanja. Arakava upotpunjuje priču odličnim crtežima, sa dosta detalja. Saznajemo i neke bitne detalje o umešanosti vojske i visokih zvaničnika u celu priču.
Konačno imamo velike i brutalne okršaje suočenih strana.
The worldbuilding continues to expand. We're getting some really interesting thoughts on what exactly the difference is between bodies and souls... and what it means to separate them. Also more on how homunculi work and how to finally kill them.
Oy these are crazy.
Chapter 38: Signal to Strike
Makes sense. And could be useful for the Elric brothers!
Chapter 39: Complications at Central
SHLA-MUK! Oh Gluttony is so gross.
But ... useful for those seeking immortality I guess?
Oh Barry...
And he ... cannot lie? Every once in a while, the translations seem amusingly juvenile.
... wow homunculi are hard to kill.
Chapter 40: Philosopher from the West
Heh! LET'S DO IT!
Ouch. I hadn't considered that. I wonder what sort of metal he's made out of.
Also... what in the world did they do that cost an entire country...
Chapter 41: On the Palm of an Arrogant Human Being
Oh Barry.
Quite a place to be cutting corners. I knew there was something up about that from the start though.
Again with the boobs. It feels real enough, but it's still funny.
This volume wraps up the story with Ross. We learn more about the history of alchemy and there’s a complicated reunion. I like the parts of this story that deal with the connections the Elric brothers have made, so this was more enjoyable than the last 2 volumes.
This instantly shot into my Top 3 favourite volumes so far, and with good reason. That Mustang vs Lust face-off was the epicest epic showdown that ever epiced! In my not-humble opinion, even better than the Edward vs Greed showdown.
What's up with these two being thrown headlong into clashes with the bestest Deadly Sins, by the way? Not that they don't deserve the deadliest of Task Force Sinful, because I suspect Edward would be even more insulted by having to battle, say, Gluttony even more than by being called little. Heh.
They better reserve Wrath for Mustang, the little runt can have Pride all to himself with my compliments. Especially if my crackpot about Pride proves to be true.
I'm so intensely relieved at the revelations on what really happened in last volume that marred Mustang's reputation. As I suspected, it was a trick to save Ross. I'm so happy that I barely registered that we have, for the first time, stepped outside and gone to a different country. Not that we see Xing yet, anyway, and what is seen from that place they arrive to is mostly to advance the plot and show us certain truths alongside a bit of in-world lore. I'm starting to tolerate that idiot prince a wee bit more as well, thanks to what happens in this scene.
Can't say I am a fan of the cliffhanger this ends on, but I'm intrigued about what we'll learn about the Elrics' father next. I don't like his guts, for sure, whoever abandons his children and wife like that better have a very, very good motive. And even if he does, he's still punchable in my book.
This is where the series picks up the pace again. Maria Ross is alive, Lust is getting killed by Roy Mustang and Hohenheim returns, plus Ed finds out about the death of the Rockbells, as well as investigates the ruins of the city in the middle of the desert. That's a lot to take in, but finally, we're seeing progress.
But perhaps the funniest part is the boobs joke in chapter 38, which is also referenced in the extras. I love it when things get silly in the middle of serious stuff.
