Darren Shan!!! What just happened to you!!!! Awesomeness, that’s what!!!

The drama and action in this installment what great!! There was not a dull moment to be seen. We did unfortunately lose a couple of my favorite characters, but even so, the plot was great. Darren grows so much in this one. Leaps and bounds really. I can hardly wait to see what he’s going to get into next! And who knew that vampires were so stubborn!!

Anyway, I highly recommend this one!!! Such a great read. And having binged the series so far on audiobook, I really recommend listening to Ralph Lister reading these. He does such a great job!! Welp, I’m off to read the next one!!! Just can’t help it!!

“They forget that the vampaneze were once our brothers, that by destroying them, we destroy a part of ourselves. Most vampire never realize how pointless and savage war truly is. You were smart enough to see through the truth. Don't ever forget it.”

My favorite in the series so far! Vampire culture is finally explained a bit more and Darren has redeemed himself as a worthy vampire.

I hate the way Arra Sails was written as a character. "Imagine how they would mock you if you died by a woman's hand!" or something like that. Seriously?
On the other hand, I loved the way Kurda Smahlt was written. Possibly the only character I connected with and cared about. It was pretty funny to see him executed, and then, moments later, Darren is made a prince just so he doesn't have to be executed. Even though, in both cases, none of the present vampires wanted them dead, and both of them broke vampire laws before their motive was revealed. So what's the difference? The difference is that Kurda isn't the MC.

This is the 6th book of Darren's Story as a Vampire. In this book Darren has escaped his death trial. He survived a very hard road, he was swept away by a water current and he had to swim to shore. When he arrived to shore, it was extremely cold along with his clothes drenched in water. He decided to lose the clothes but this proved to make his journey even harder, but he was rescued by a pack of wolves when he did not have the energy to get back up. Darren survived and lived off the food the wolves provided including their milk which was gross for Darren but desperate times called for desperate measures. He had to be lead back to Vampire Mountain, do you think Darren will make it, or will he perish following the wolves and getting lost?
I can connect this to hermits all over the world. Hermits are away from society and they live on their own. They live through many hardships and do things the hard way instead of the simple ways. Darren is almost like a hermit in this case, he learned to adapt to his environment and live on food he isn't used to eating all the time. I can also relate this to the people in the world who are persistent because Darren would've just gave himself to the Vampires and be executed by them, but he didn't he took a chance and even though the chances were slim he just kept trying new ways until he got it.
I would rate this book 5 stars because I feel as though this is the turning point of the whole saga, Darren's life is on the line if he makes it to Vampire Mountain and if he does not survive with the wolves, he will also perish.

I couldn't stand the ending. Why why why did that person have to die?? Why not someone else? Gosh, I really admired that character, such a pity that he/she/it had to die. Kinda sucks...

But overall the book was not too bad. The action was a little boring for me, but I liked seeing how Darren had an epiphany during it. He realised that vampaneze were just like them, they just had different beliefs. Yet, vampires would slaughter them, and take pride in it. That part of him made me see that he had really grown up and was no longer a kid, even though his outer appearance would be like one.

The ending was really cool. I love Paris omg! He's so like a cute old man who's mischievous and all! Haha and Arrow was really funny when he was rubbing his bald head and said he had suddenly got an idea. I dunno, it just made me laugh..

Overall, it was a good book and the end threw me a little because I thought I had remembered that event as happening later in the series! But, overall, the ending was good.

Gosh, I wish true love prevailed in this book, where the lovers would have a HEA... But what can I say? It's not a romance after all... Read it to know what I'm talking about!

Quindi siamo a metà!

Oppure no?

Wow! I was really impressed with this installment of the series! When I originally started reading these books in middle school, this is the last one I picked up before I stopped. The beginning was a bit slow at first, but it was totally worth sticking it out to the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next after that ending!

Once again, I was pleasantly surprised by this author. Never would I have thought that book aimed at children would tackle some big topics like the morality and war and did it so well. It wasn't overdone, it wasn't out of place or awkward and it's not something that was just mentioned briefly and could be brushed aside after, either. It plays such an important part in Darren's character (and possibly the change of ways and views amongst the vampire clan), it became his inner conflicts and his ever so changing views on how things are done amongst the vampire clan (once again we're shown this through Darren's observation amongst the wolves that saved him).

I appreciate that Kulda's character plays into this moral dilemma that Darren had, especially when it was his idea that the other vampires were opposed to in the first place (and now maybe plays a significant role in changing it too).

The end though, I have to admit is something that I'm not too fond of - I would rather it went into another direction but nonetheless, it did not damper my enjoyment for this book at all.

In the previous book Darren has to escape using an escape path that nearly killed him. This book starts off at that very same path and shows how much excruciating pain Darren felt going down that path. After surviving by only a sliver he meets some of his old friends, the wolves. After being nursed back to health Darren must inform the vampires about the invasion of the vampaneze while at the same time avoid being killed by both the vampires and the vampaneze!

This book was amazing, it put the reader in the story with Darren. He was constantly in danger and had to fight his way through, letting the reader feel how he felt as well. As the story progressed the book made the reader wonder what would happen to Darren, all these near death experiences made the reader wonder what would happen next. Toward the end Darren rushes to the vampires to inform them of the vampaneze. Filled with hate he rushed to call out a close friend of his and sentence him to death. After this he told them about the vampaneze and once they were found he helped formulate a plan to kill all of the vampaneze. Although he helped the vampires he still had to be trialed for breaking a large vampire law. The way that the vampire princes saved him made him much more important than another half vampire.
