The first half of the book is weird af.

Getting Darren to go back to school, with both Darren and Mr. Crepsley easily succumbing to this whole bizarre situation without even a fight, is just plain absurd.
Then there’s this stupid romance between Darren, who is still a 15 year old kid (at least in the human eye), and Debbie- a 30-year old teacher- is so so fucked up.

The fight scene at the end is the only redemption this book has, and even it is not that good of a redemption. The whole thing lacks suspense, action, and has too much weird talking and im-letting-you-go-so-we-dont-die shit.
4 against 20, and did the author really allow them to just escape like that. Wow.

Darren Shan now has to go to a school, he is a man now, but looks like a kid because of his vampire blood. He wanted to go to the city so he can kill the Vampaneze lord, since Mr.Tiny told them to follow their heart, so they went to Mr.Crepsley old town. He was a sleep one morning and he heard a knock on the hotel door. It was a director from a school, they made Darren have to go to school. But, Darren didn't get mad at where he had to go because he had his ex girlfriend as the english teacher! So, Darren went to school while Mr.Crepsley went searching for the Vampaneze. Darren got private lessons with Debbie and explains everything about him being completely honest. Then, Darren heard about the Vampaneze in the TV and it killed someone in the same school as Darren. Darren then knows its the Vampaneze, he went to guard his friends house and caught the Vampaneze. He tails the Vampaneze with his group and it leads to their base, but ended up as a trap! This book is about confidence, belief, and hope

3,5/5. Not my favorite of this series! A series I deeply love but this one as some... wouldn't say bad, but definitely not great moment. The beginning as me really worried about the way it might goes. A very casual teenagers school day to day, that goes around for the first 50 pages more or less. And then it pick up some action so it was okay on the long run. It also bring a lot of old characters back in Darren life which is good, but also bring a lot of small emotional/love moment that I'm not really sure about. And finally we do get some action and some back stabbing. So really a good things that always come with a lower ones. The overall story line of the series didn't evolve much in this one and we just not go forward enough for me. I was a bit grumpy reading through it so that might have affect my judgement a little, just want to be honest here. It was alright, certainly continuing the series but probably the lowest one so far.

Wow! So many twists and turns! This was definitely a fun installment to the series! In this book, Mr. Crepsley and Darren return to the full vampire’s hometown after they hear of an abundance of Vampaneze murders.

Allies of the Night
Author: Darren Shan

"Indecision is the source of chaos."

Darren is still trying to track down the Lord of the Vampanese when he suddenly receives help from an unexpected source...

Meanwhile, a series of unexplained events occur, further delaying his mission. Who is trying to thwart him?

I found this part the least interesting book in the series. This was partly because there was a lot of repetition in the storyline, which made some chapters seem like unnecessary additions.

Trigger warnings:
Death, violence, murder, grief, blood

I truly adore this series! Try as I might, I continue to make predictions as I read and by the end of the book I realize my wildest guesses cannot come close to the plot twists Shan writes. If you haven't started this series yet, you need to!

Last half of this book sped up and set some pace. Ready to lead us into the next with a faster pace than the start.

Love Debbie being brought into this. Saw Steve coming unfortunately but RV didn't even click with the vampaneze with no hands... Great touch.

Torn between 2 and 3 stars. The second half was interesting with a potential turning point for the rest of the saga, though (knowing enough of what's supposed to happen) only a minor twist if you can even call it that. But first, what an odd premise for the middle book of a trilogy. The first book established that a hunt for the vampanese lord and led to an interesting conclusion. Book 2 starts with the trio of hunters settling in a village and...Darren has to go back to school? Now it's a book about a 30-something half-vampire with the body of a 15 year old who hasn't been in school since he was 13, and the struggles...not to mention the struggles of meeting your old love interest who has aged in real time. This reminds me of Mockingjay, where the author took a fine two books of a trilogy and then put the main character completely out of the action for 80% of the book. (Note to self: Revisit old review of Mockingjay and make sure it isn't rated too high.)

Thankfully, I'm already 30% done with the next book and it is already MUCH better. As a single entry, this was very weak. The series as a whole keeps moving along quite nicely.

Insomma, ho i miei sospetti.
