This book is a little problematic. First off it is not what i expected AT ALL following its fantasy driven predecessor. And while i enjoyed the book a lot as seen by yk reading it in basically two sittings, it was such a drastic change in storytelling it was alot to adjust to. I found the dialogue in this one to be so visibly not great, it is very convenient to the narrative the author decided upon. Vancha is sick, so badass, everything i look for in a badass vampire prince. Darren on the other hand in this one is so annoying. I get emotions r strong, but i would expect him after 6 years of his position to be a very mature and intelligent vampire. I think he’s dumbed down in this one again for convenience and idk if i liked it that much. Again, Vancha, sick W lots of Ws all around. Maybe Darren will get there idk eventually. Uhhhhhh so there’s no 2.5, i’m rocking the 3, i enjoyed it personally so i just can’t give it a low 2, but tbh like i said some of the just pour storytelling choices bring this down a Lotttttttt. Vancha W btw if i didn’t mention that yet.

Having failed once to kill the Lord of the Vampaneze, Darren and his allies have wound up back in the town of Mr Crepsley's birth, where history seems to be repeating itself — bodies have been discovered, drained of blood...

But this time there's more than a single mad vampaneze to contend with, and when Darren is paid an unwelcome visit by a school inspector, it's only the beginning of a twisted series of events which will stretch the Hunters to their very limits. As faces from the past re-enter Darren's life, and the body toll mounts, he must forge new alliances and try to unravel the mystery behind the malevolent forces which have been set in motion against him.

Slightly ruined by the fact I remembered the twist at the end but love the return to some old characters!

The hunt for the Vampaneze Lord continues.

n

Darren and his team of Vampaneze hunters return to Larten Crepsley's home town when they learn that murder victims with all the blood drained from them are piling up. Suddenly, an inspector shows up at their hotel wondering why, after they had enrolled Darren in school, he is not attending and that if he does not begin at once the police would have to get involved. So not only does Darren have to hunt vampaneze, he's got to finish his homework first. Then on top of everything else he has to deal with problems from his past.

Writing as always is quick and clean; definitely nothing fancy. The plot moved quickly with enough surprises to keep me interested. Even though this book ended with the dreaded "TO BE CONTINUED," it still had a great build to it's own climax. So in the end it left me with a satisfied feeling.

Bloody humans!' I grumbled, kicking a postbox in anger. 'Bloody Vampires! We should all be turtles or something!

This one felt like it started off more of a writing exercise, the author asked themselves what would it be like if a grown vampire man went back to school. I get where it was intended to go but a little slow and weird at first. The love declaration was wild and very out of pocket

Kändes lite som en mellanbok men är taggad på fortsättningen som den lagt upp för!

tDarren Shan, a part of an Elite Vampire Squad meant to kill off the Vampaneze, is confronted with a pressing issue: school. While setting up base in a city where the Vampaneze have been known to be active, Darren Shan is noticed by the police and is forced to attend school. But there are other problems, and as bad as it seems, school is only a hinderance…
tThis was one of my two least favorite books in the series. While it tried to return to the old theme of not fitting in while keeping the feeling of Darren being special, it ended up just ruining the book with the conflicting feelings. Other than that, the book was very similar to the last one, so much so it felt like a continuation of the previous one, which I was not very fond of. The only two things that I actually enjoyed about the book was that there is no lack of action, and Darren reunites with 4 characters from the previous books. Besides that, there isn’t much that I praise this book about. For these reasons I would give this book 3 stars.

First, I’d like to say that this series has got me. I’m so into Darren’s life along with the friends he’s made along the way. Second, I love this one in particular because of a long lost acquaintance or several comes back in this installation.

Third, why the heck didn’t I see that coming?!?! I saw the movie so shouldn’t I have known that this particular event was going to occur?!?! Come on me, pay more attention!!!

So far, I’m recommending this to vampire lovers!!! I can’t wait to get to the end of the series to see it all play out and if I want to change my mind about recommending this to anyone!!! Thanks to audible, I can and have been binging this series!!!

Darren has to hit the books again, now that he's been enrolled in school! Probably one of my least favorites in the entire series so far. This book in particular demands you suspend a LOT of common sense. First of all, Darren just goes to school looking like a war victim and of all people he meets Debbie??? And of all that, he steals a kiss from her after they happily reunite and just jump into each other's arms after moments of seeing each other? Yikes. Darren would know better and I would hope Deebie, as a young adult, would also know better than to just bear hug a student who is also her (most likely) first boyfriend from her early teens. Otherwise, the rest of the story is interesting. We find out more about the Lord of the Vampaneze and Debbie finds out the truth about Darren and the gang. And it ends on a total cliffhanger!
