Another okay addition to the series. Felt a bit like filler.
However... They set back to the Cirque! I really wish they could just stay there. It's comforting in a story that is basically war and killing. I love that we got to see Evra and his children. Funny that the non snake son wants to fit in. It would have been nice to revisit the others.
I want to know more about Evanna. I doubt trust her but she is by far the most interesting character so far.

This starts with a pretty significant time jump. 6 years have passed since Darren became a vampire prince and they're training for the war against the vampaneze.

Except not a lot happens. Its actually painfully slow. Mr Tiny gives a lot of exposition. They have Vancha March, who really feels like a stand in for every other vampire we've lost in the last part of the series, join their vampaneze lord quest. They travel back to the cirque and then the book is almost over!

Theres one fight scene and some more exposition and now its on to the next. Definitely a little bit of a let down from the excitement of the trials of death.

I love this series and I can only imagine what I will do when I'm finished it. I can't really say anything without giving anything away. All I can say though is it will surprise you. I am so glad I got Devin, Courtney, Zack, Daniel and maybe Mr.C reading this series. I hope they all love it as much as I do, and as always I can't wait to start the next one!

I've read this entire series through once before but it appears this is the book where my memory of what actually happens ends. My most vibrant memory of the entire series comes from this book (and involves hair growth, you'll know it when you read it) and yet it doesn't last nearly as long as I thought it did. It's also at this point in the series where time gets jumped through so quickly, either because Shan skips years/months in the timeline of the story or because some coincidental change occurs that allows Darren to age several years for no reason. Having a fresh take on vampires is one thing, but what these vampires can do is just so different it's a bit bizarre.

Darren is now the prince and have quests to do, it is just the beginning. The author made it very fun by adding thoughts, I like reading their thoughts and 'watching' their actions. It's pretty exciting when they are fighting their enemies. Everyone should try this book out, continue with the next book! I can't stop reading the series because their too FUN!!!

I found myself having to really persist with this book, the pace of it seemed very slow compared to the past books and the story a tad boring and stale at times.
I did however quite enjoy the last quarter of the book, even though it was very obvious apart from one point which was quite refreshing.
An overall mediocre read in my opinion.

Always good, this series never let me down. This one was a bit slower in term of action, but I enjoy it anyway. I like that we get back at the Cirque du Freak a bit and we get to see some of those old characters from the beginning! We continue to learn, the plot continue to evolve, we get an idea of where it goes and how it might end. I like it a lot!

Definitely the funniest of the series!
Vancha just swept in and became nearly my favorite character!

The pacing of this installment was waaaay too slow. The overall plot of the series barely moves along and it takes them half the book (genuinely) to begin their quest. The foreshadowing in this one is also just very heavy handed, but I guess I'm saying that with the benefit of already having read the series.
