tDarren Shan, now a Vampire of high standing, is sent on a mission along with an Elite Squad to eliminate the threat of the murderous Vampaneze and their Lord. Will Darren succeed, and if he does, will it have been worth it?
tExpanding on the books before it, “ Hunters of the Dusk” might seem like a good book at first. It has action, as well as a fairly interesting plot. However, the problem in the last book has not been fixed. Darren Shan, a mere, young, half-vampire, is chosen by an agent of Destiny to be part of an Elite Squad supposed to eradicate a race of the equivalent of murderous Vampires. I think that this is a bit of a stretch for a series that was about a boy who doesn’t fit in, due to Vampiric powers, but about a boy who doesn’t fit in nonetheless. This book, along with the one after this, were my least favorite in the series. For these reasons, I would give it 3 stars.

Mr. Tiny tells Mr. Crepsley and Darren that they have to go find the Vampaneze Lord and kill him, and that only them and one other vampire that they will find later can kill him. Darren and Mr. Crepsley go to find the other vampire, so they start searching. They find Vancha March, the third vampire. All three of them want to find the Vampaneze Lord, but they don't know where to start, so they just follow their instincts. Then, they do find him, and while trying to kill him, they killed all the Vampaneze except Vancha March's brother, and one other. The one other was the Vampaneze Lord, so it counted as their 1st time, and they only have 4 encounters....

Hunters of the Dusk is about Confidence, Not giving up, and Finding the best ways to do things.

We shouldn't worry about dying — it's living we have to fear if we fail!

Well, now I know how Mr. Crepsley got the scar on his face. & Darren has his thumb fixed, though he had it cut off first.

I stayed up pretty late to finish this book and it was worth it. Darren always seems to have this 'vampire luck' while afterwards it seems that it wasn't much like luck at all. I love how short these books all are though

I don’t think I’ve ever been this emotionally distraught yet invested in a series of novels in my life. I need to take a mental health day from the story line if I’m being honest. Going back to the cirque did help either. I’m just so on edge and I hope to god that this has a happy ending. But, based on how it’s going so far, I doubt that severely.

The Cirque Du Freak series is perfect for those wanting something darker than a normal YA book, while not going off the deep end.

In the middle of the War of Scars, Darren learns that he is one of three that must search out the Vampaneze Lord and kill him in order to save all the vampires. That's a lot for a half-vampire to deal with, especially one dealing with some growing pains.

I appreciate that while the series is chronological, there are some years that are completely skipped over. The books span years, and I wouldn't not want to read about six years of war when the events that affect Darren don't happen until after that. The story flows because of the time glossed over. The reader still gains a sense of what has happened, they are not left going through something that has no real relevance to the moment.

This book does not focus just on vampires, the members of the Cirque Du Freak make a short appearance. While I wish the time at the circus had been longer, I really enjoyed the pages spent showing where the circus acts are in their lives.

On to book 8.

This books is a complete filler. The only character that casts a tiny light of amusement is Lady Evanna. And even her is not a very well defined personality. I can understand erratic, random and neutral entities with quirky perks. She is just an obvious out-of-the-hat inclusion from a legend that was also dimwitted.

All the prophetic element is poorly managed. I would like to be wrong but this feels more a request than a conviction from the author. Let's wait how the story unfolds but so far it is quite a bitter taste after the nice ending of the previous trilogy.

It took me a while to get used to the six year time jump but once I'd gotten over it I started to really enjoy the book. I was glad they left Vampire Mountain, I like it a lot more when the characters are on the move. There were a lot of interesting things set up for almost every character in this book too. My favourite part though was the return to the Cirque du Freak and meeting Evra again! I got so emotional when he and Darren reunited and then again when they all parted ways.

The more books I read the more drama there is. I took breaks while reading this book and was gonna say that I couldn’t even remember what it was about, but as soon as I started thinking about it I remembered what’s going on.
It’s such an easy and engaging read, I genuinely feel engaged in the story. I wonder where it’s gonna go with Evanna trying to kind of bring vampires and vampaneze together. I also wonder why Darren never thinks about his family and why he never even thought of going back and peeking at their life. I wonder if that’s gonna happen in the future books
