I think Cirque Du Freak Vampire Mountain was a great book. The book was full of great moments. The Vampaneze make a comeback and it is the main issue in the book. Mr. Crepsley and Darren decide to go to Vampire Mountain for the meeting of the counsel because it only happens every 8 years. It is a terribly hard journey and Mr. Tiny forces them to take two little people along with them. On their way they stop and find a dead vampire. They think he was ambushed by a animal and move on. They then smell vamaneze blood, and find out it was no animal that killed the vampire. They then try to move as fast as possible to alert the vampire princes that the vampaneze could be preparing for war. Along the way they meet a pack of wolves that Darren takes a liking to. They hunt with the wolves every night and the wolves keep watch for danger during the day. Once they arrive Darren presented to the princes. To prove he deserves to be a vampire he has to participate in the Trials of Death, leading into the next book.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. The book has a lot of action, but some parts are dragged on for to long. There are some new characters in the book that are very enjoyable to read about. I would of liked more action in the beginning of the book. The first half of the book was just about them climbing the mountain and got boring at times. Overall it was a good book

I would recommend this book to middle school and high school boys. The main character is a boy so a male audience could relate to his thoughts more than females could. Boys also tend to like action and fantasy more that girls do.

Tätä olisi pitänyt olla tarjolla suomeksi vuonna 1980. Hyvä, että edes nyt. Tykkään silleen kuin aikuislukija voi tykätä.

After flying through the first three books, which were addicting, I had a couple others purchased, but not this one. Since it’s inconceivable to read a series like this out of order, I waited awhile until I could own all to continue it. They’re really that addicting.

Unfortunately this fourth was a small dive down. I’m crushed at first that after taking a break from the series, when I come back they’re immediately leaving the freak show and finding new paths. Change is inevitable, but I’d associated this series thus far with the performers, adventures there, and Darren finding himself among the crew. Now it was a sudden shift as they ventured to Vampire Mountain to meet the princes. Apparently making a kid into a half-vampire is a big no-no, and Crepsley has some explaining to do.

The journey to the mountains was relatively interesting. They leave behind other characters I’d grown to enjoy, and Darren himself is different as several years have now passed (hate when authors jump time like that) and he is now more comfortable in how own skin. While some regulars were taken away, new friends are met on the journey, and then there were plenty of new faces in the vampire mountain itself.

Darren is a likeable sort still, but Crepsley fell back more into a background, ordinary character territory. I liked some of the new characters, but most were irritants, especially the female vampire Arra.

I was annoyed by some of the strictness and their ways, but obviously this was the world Shan created for the story. (I can’t help it – issues with authority and silly blind leadership here.) The mountain idea is a childlike whim that worked, although of course the childlike names are a hokey curse for the series.

Besides a few fight scenes, there isn’t much of an overarching conflict, so there’s no draw pulling me in as much as the other books. Since Darren is more sure of himself, there isn’t as much internal conflict either. This hurt the pacing a bit.

On the good side of things, we learn more about the vampires, vampineze, the world that’s been built around them, their politics (sometimes annoying), and a darker, older reality Darren has walked into.

Not a bad book, but one of the weaker ones and feels like a filler. Still, it must be read in the series to know how he got to where he did by book five. I was irritated at the end with the trial pronouncement, however, for it made the prince’s council and rules even more irritating.

This was definitely more of a filler book, and it does end rather frustratingly right when the plot starts picking up. But despite all that, I really enjoyed this book. I was fascinated by the setting and all the information we were being given about the vampires. I think the next book will definitely be more action-packed and I'm looking forward to that :)

This series is really picking up now, I am loving it! This was a very descriptive book, not much action went on, but the author just brought new characters in instead. We really got to know a lot about the way vampires live, which was great. I am starting to get really excited about this series now, the characters are just so flipping awesome, they are so thrilling and Darren is one of the most amazing main characters ever. He is so caring and thoughtful, I really like him. Can't wait to see him in the Trials, excited!

The Vampire Mountain is a great book, it included the topics adventure, trust, and friendship. It all started with the idea of the character Darren Shan caring too much about his friendship that he could die to do anything for it. This affected him by the way that his best friend can only be rescued by a vampire, but the request from him was to turn Darren into a vampire too. So now Darren Shan has to live a life as a half vampire leaving his family members, friends all behind to start a new life going with a vampire on a adventure. Toward the capital of where all the vampires lived the Vampire Mountain, which was where the vampires chose to let Darren live or let him die.

Vampire Mountain by Darren Shan is a really good book. I know I say that about every book but each book has something interestingly unique which makes it good. Well this book in the series gives us an insight more about the vampire council, or vampires in general. They talk about their ways, and teach Darren more about "his kind." In conclusion I really enjoy this book, and recommend it to anyone if you haven't already read this book, or series in general.

There is a time jump between the end of the last book and this one, jumping us forward to the next set of important events in Darren’s vampire life.

We’re once again introduced to a new set of characters, all of which you come to love. We’re also given more information about the vampire world, learning even more than we have been given in the last three books. It is here that we really start to see other vampires, coming to understand their lifestyles. Another great book in the series!
