As much as I loved this series growing up - these titles man... they're just so edge-lord. Growing up as a teenage goth kid emo wannabe rocking the all-black look - I can't help but feel a certain kinship with Darren Shan (who's both the author and the main character) - who wouldn't want to become the personal assistant of a vampire?
To be honest, this is a good book - it's a small glimpse of an excellent series. It's short, it's action-packed, it's got my homeboy snake-boy Ezra, get schwifty with it. Enjoy it!
I love how fast I can get through these books, they just keep getting better and I am totally addicted. Darren is starting to get used to life as a half-vampire and spending his time with Mr Crepsley and the Cirque, but something comes up that draws them away from the troupe and back into a busy city. Once there Mr Crepsley starts to disappear more often and Darren wants to know why, then there is news of human killings and he starts to worry about Crepsley's movements. With Evra the snake boys help they get thrown into a dark world and into the deadly tunnels under the city. There is more lurking down there than a few rats. These books carry an air of mystery about them anyway but I liked the added suspicions and clues in this one. The writing came across a bit more tense and made my heart pump faster, I had to find out what would happen, I couldn't stop until I did. I was glad that Evra featured more in this book, I really like him and think he might even be my favourite character, he has a certain charm about him and he bounces off Darren really well and the pair make reading a joy. Again there is a little bit of gore and of course blood in the book but not too much to handle, certainly not enough to put me off. I can't wait to read the rest of this series, I need to know what becomes of Darren and Crepsley!
Darren,Evra and Mr. Crepsley decide to leave the Cirque Du Freak and go to Mr. Crepsley's hometown. There Darren meets a girl, named Debbie. They start to date but Darren nows it can't last but still enjoys his time with her. There is something strange going on in the city while they are there, corpses are being found with out blood.Darren and Evra start to investigate and conclude that this Mr. Crepsley is killing the people in that are found dead. One night while they are following him, they see he is getting ready to kill a man, so they interfer and face Mr. Crepsley. This gives the man a chance to escape and in that moment takes Evra who was waiting outside.Mr. Crepsley tells Darren that he isn't the killer that it is the man that escaped. The man is a Vampeneze, named Murlough and now they assume that Evra will be killed. Then while Darren was walking Murlough offered him Evra's life for Debbie's.He consults with Mr. Crepsley and he agrees. Then, Darren shows Murlough the way to Debbie's room. But Murlough is unaware that this is a trap and Mr. Crepsley shows up and fights the Vampeneze.Mr. Crepsley is victorious they leave the house with out a sound and also retrieve Evra.
I found this story suspensful, because of the fact that not everything was said but it all made sense at the end concluding with a good story.
I have to admit, I forgot most of the plot of this one, such as the prologue and what was going on. Darren is out of the Cirque with Evra and Crepsley in a different town, but with Crepsley gone every night for no apparent reason, and bodies drained of blood turning up in a warehouse, Darren's unsure of Crepsley's involvement.
First of all I adore Debbie and I'm said it ended like it did, but they're so CUTE! OMG I WANT MORE! (and that wish is sorta granted but MORE OF THAT LATER) Seriously, I ship them SO HARD!
I like how Darren's relationships deepen. Not just with Evra, who hangs out with him all the time in this book, and who is why Darren is willing to sacrifice so much, but with Crespley as well. They've come a long way from Darren wanting to kill him to him fighting for him. And I think the three of them are so cute as a weird little family. Kinda wish that was how it really was, but nope.
Murlough is beyond creepy. Not just how he looks--I imagine him like Vernon Dursley when he's raging, but like, all the time--but how he talks and uses the sewers. And what he does to Evra! Oh poor guy! :(
I'm glad to see Darren's development and how this is shaping him for what's to come. I am just really loving this series.
4.7/5 Quality of writing: 4 Plot development: 5 Pace: 5 Characters: 4 Enjoyability: 5 Ease of reading: 5
Darren is a brat. And the communication between Mr. Crepsley and Darren SUUUUUUCKS. Like... dudes... c'mon! SPEAK! It seems like I've been enjoying each book more than the previous.
About the Book: About a year and a half has passed since Darren's last adventure. This time a Vampire General has made contact with Mr. Crepsley. After the meeting, Crepsley, Darren, and Evra leave the Cirque. In the city they inhabit, Crepsley ends up going off by himself at night without explanation. Evra and Darren think nothing of this until they see the news: six bodies have been found drained of their blood. So the two boys start to follow Crepsley to whether he is the villain.
Review: I honestly wasn't all to thrilled with this installment. Granted, I didn't dislike it either. The plot itself wasn't terrible, and the villain was nice and grotesque, which ought to appeal to young boys. The main issue I had with this particular book was when they were following Crepsley. It just seemed way to drawn out when it was obvious that Crepsley was not the one killing the humans. I had no problem with this obvious deterrent being placed in the story. My issue was that it dragged on for chapters. Maybe it would be less obvious to a twelve year old (or they would have at least found it more interesting), but for me it was a draaaaaaaaaaaaag.
Beside that major issue, I felt about the same with this book as with the others in the series thus far. It is an original idea and a fast paced read, which I think the youth will enjoy. So far however, I would not suggest this as an all ages type book. Still, it is an interesting and fairly entertaining series, and I still plan on reading the rest.
Tunnels of blood was a very weird, but an interesting book. Its about vampires. The main character of this book is Darren Shan, he is a half vampire, he hasn’t fully became a total vampire yet. He is the assitant of another vampire named Mr.Crepsly. They both are apart of circus outside of town. My favorite character in this book would have to be Evra, Darrens bestfriend. Evra is a snake boy, he has scales and everything like a snake would have. Him and Darren were good friends from the circus. My least favorite character is Mr.Crepsly. He was weird, and he was always acting suspicious. Then when some dead bodies were discovered, Evra and Darren knew he had to be apart of it. The part that captivated my attention the most would be the part when Darren met this girl named Debbie that he met in the city and he started to like her a lot.She had asked him to give her a goodnight kiss when it was time to go, but he was scared. So she was okay with it but kind of upset. So then darren left but he felt really stupid afterwards, so he went back to her house and climbed up her 3 story building with his vampire skills and went to give her a kiss. The emotion this book caused me to feel was an intense feeling the whole time and i didnt want to put it down sometimes. My favorite line in the book is, "As the vampire jumps, so do i, screeching loudly, slashing at him with the knife, determined to kill...". I would recommend this book to anyone who likes vampires and a good story. I wasn’t really able to predict the ending because this is only the 3rd book out of 11 other ones. I think the author wrote these books because he likes scary and goory things also he likes to make us readers be glued to our seats in horror.
