Darren must travel to a city far away, because he is following Mr. Crepsley to go there. He suggests that Evra should come along, to keep Darren company. They later find out that they are traveling to Mr. Crepsley's hometown. They stay in a hotel, and Mr. Crepsley goes out every night, leaving Evra and Darren alone.

One night, Darren and Evra are disturbed by a news report saying that human bodies were found in a basement, drained of blood. Darren and Evra fear that it may be Mr. Crepsley, and decide to track him at night to see where he goes. When Darren thinks that he is about to go and kill a man, Darren attempts to face Mr. Crepsley and tries to stop him, but discovers that it was actually a work of a mad vampaneze named Murlough.

While walking around the city during the day, Darren meets a girl named Debbie, who he starts dating. Meanwhile, Murlough kidnaps Evra, and brings him down into his hiding place in the sewer. Darren decides to trade the life of Debbie for Evra's, which turns out to be a trap, in which Mr. Crepsley is waiting for the mad vampaneze. The fight is quickly over with Mr. Crepsley winner. Murlough's last words to Darren are,"Cluh-cluh-clever buh-buh-buh-boy, hmmm?". He then falls face-first and dies. They then go back to the sewers to save Evra, and Mr. Crepsley tells Darren that chances are, he'll never see Debbie again. Though he knows this , he takes a small Christmas tree Debbie and her family decorate each year and quickly decorates it to make his promise to Debbie that he won't leave without saying goodbye. He hopes the Christmas tree will be the first thing she sees in the morning as a farewell from Darren. He kisses her forehead and says his last words to her , Merry Christmas, Debbie.

This is actually my first time reading a manga. At first, it was hard to read. I didn't know how people read a manga. Which is quite funny, since I'm a big comic book fan. But after I learn how to read it normally, I had a great time with it. Since it is a manga, it didn't take a lot of time to finish. The pacing was really fast. But one thing I don't like about comic book versions of another book is that it doesn't give you the same feeling you had. In a 250 paged book, you get to read more. But in a manga/comic book, sometimes they'll skip some parts and leave it out. The artwork was amazing. Black and white illustrations aren't my favorite kind of artwork, but I have to say that the artist was very good. Since this is a manga, the characters will be drawn in a different way. The characters have this anime-ish look which I have no problems with. The way the artist drew antagonist of this manga creeped me out! (SPOILER) The Vampaneze looked terrifying! Also, the way the artist drew Evra Von also changed the way I see him. When I think of Snakeboy, I think of that teenager wearing a beanie with green scales from the 2009 film adaptation. This new cute looking Evra Von changed the way I think of him. Overall, I think that Cirque Du Freak: Tunnels of Blood, Vol. 3 is very enjoyable manga. The artwork is great. The story is great. I think by turning Cirque Du Freak into a manga will really attract manga fans, too!

This book was amazing. It was able to excel its predecessor. It still has the same heroes and now they have to face a new challenge. The setting changes to a more city-like place. The vampire mentor of Darren is now very seclusive. He became quiet and focuses on other things than Darren. His snake-like friend is still there and now they act as if they are brothers. They are free to explore the city on their own and meet other people. However, this happy and free tone does not come alone. It also brings a mood of suspicion toward Darren's mentor. He became very mysterious and rarely talks. The book is able to hide the true villain until the very end where the reader questions everything in that time. The book makes you keep on asking questions and does not answer them for you, you must read to answer them yourself. The story makes you wonder and keep you reading till the very end. It had major plot twists and makes the outcome hard to piece together. Overall, the book once again is a great book and I would most definitely recommend it to a friend.

Well, I've stuck it out for three books with Darren and I'm actually enjoying the ride. While I don't normally enjoy whiny main characters, there's something about Darren (perhaps his keen intellect) that keeps you coming back for more.

n  Summary: Darren Shan, the vampire's assistant, gets a taste of the city when he leaves the Cirque Du Freak with Evra the snake-boy and Mr. Crepsley. When corpses are discovered drained of blood, Darren and Evra are compelled to confront a foul creature of the night who may prove to be the end of them all.n

What I liked about this book: Darren is an enigma. He hates his lot, his likes his powers, he hates Mr. Crepsley, he likes Mr. Crepsley. He likes Madame Octa, he hates Madame Octa. In other words, he's your typical teenager with a see-saw of emotions that are now heightened by his vampiric powers. In this book, we meet Murlough who in the movie was kind of creepy and scary but wore the pirate-looking costume that Darren wears throughout the book. Darren meets his first crush, learns about the Vampaneze and comes face to face with evil. I love that you're on an adventure from the get-go and while the book paces along quickly, you don't lose yourself in the characters or the story.

My favorite parts, of course, are those with Darren and Evra. Best friends who pretend to be brothers traveling with their "father" Mr. Crepsley into a city that gives them an opportunity to bond, be teenagers and meet more humans. Of course, that also means danger for the pair but it gives them an opportunity to test that friendship too. Instead of a girl coming between them, an evil psychopath does. But hey, what's another monster in a world of freaks, right?

I'm enjoying the series so far. I will say that if I'd read the books then gone seen the movie, I would've been really pissed off! LOL

This is the book which really opens up the twists and turns which are to come in the rest of the series.

We move forward again, on from the Cirque and into the city. Here Darren continues to grow as a character and the evil within the series is really uncovered. A lot is found out or hinted at about the characters and the book universe meaning you will be picking up the next book in next to no time at all to see exactly what happens next.

While the first book has not yet been equalled, this remains a good series. The books are short, but true page-turners. My only complaint is how Darren continues to go through each book with arrogant defiance against his mentor, often excessively whiny about it. This should be expected at least once, but it's growing old as a formula. I guardedly hope that this is a character's growing pain that will fade as the plot turns in upcoming books.

Impromptu audio while driving this morning.
I hope the addition of the Vampaneze will continue through the series. There is no way a conflict like that can just end here. Perhaps they will be allies later? Either way, it was interesting to see what another species of vampire might look like.
I like the new character Debbie and how she was sticking up for Ezra when she thought that Darren was making fun of him. It him I she will accept Darren easily enough if she finds out about him. I love that her mother makes her read a classic every night. It has made her very mature for her age.
A lot of good action and it was nice to see Darren do the right thing and think fast.
