Really good, enjoyed the new environment of a wasteland and a quest. Nice not to have the war be the main focus for a bit. Also the friendship between Darren and Harkat is so endearing. This book had the creepiest villain yet honestly which is quite impressive considering the series track record. The not one, but two plot twists also kept me on my toes. Dragons was a bit random but I suppose we’ve had almost all mythical creatures now :’)

This is the last book I remember reading back in middle school. And despite there being only 2 more books in the series, I understand my decision to pause my reading through the series...potentially then forgetting to pick it back up.

This was a long and ultimately pointless side quest away from the War of Scars as Darren and Harkat travel to find Harkat's soul and his true identity. Which leads to some convoluted explanations that stretches the lore and abilities of this world that haven't been established yet. It was a massive eye roll at the ending.

A very long book that felt SLOW.

i refuse to read any more of these. Every time the leave the cirque the plot lines get more and more unbelievable. And i know it's written for children but it feels like it was written by one as well especially the dialogue.

3 star read for me overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️ this instalment of the Darren Shan saga sees Darren and Harkat Mulds entering and navigating a strange world fraught with danger and obstacles to finally discover who Harkat Mulds was. This is a departure from the main storyline which seemed to add very little other than to reveal who Harkat Mulds was. I didn’t enjoy this story as much as others in the series and at times, I felt the storyline bordered on the ridiculous! The character of Spits Abrams was also quite random. That being said, I am looking forward to reading the last 2 in the series to see how this saga concludes

This was quite the adventure.

It makes sense but never would I ever have guessed that Harkat and Kurda are the same person!

What I also noticed - but to be fair, it has been noticeable for some books now - is the writing.
The writing changes with Darren, goes from more childish to more mature. Maybe it's just the other or maybe it was a choice, a good one though.

This was tense and I was cheering for Darren and Harkat all the way. Now it's only two more books in this adventure and while I am anticipating it, I also am afraid. I don't want it to end.
I also still can't comprehend that Larten is dead BUT I found out that there is another book series... ABOUT MY BELOVED CREPSLEY.
We'll see in the future, if I am able to obtain it.

Darren e Harkat hanno di fronte un'altra avventura: attraversare un mondo terrificante per arrivare al Lago delle Anime, dove dovranno ripescare l'anima di Harkat e scoprire chi fosse in vita il membro del Piccolo Popolo.

In realtà questo è il libro che mi è piaciuto di meno, per cause di forza maggiore: sapevo già l'identità di Harkat grazie a uno spoiler di mia sorella, e visto che era un personaggio da me odiato non ho avuto piacere nel rivederlo. Proprio per niente, anche perché in questo libro mi è sembrato ancora più stronzo di prima...
Ciò non significa però che sia un brutto libro: se non avessi avuto queste informazioni la storia mi sarebbe piaciuta, penso, come quella di tutti gli altri libri precedenti: il libro è pieno di avventura, anche se non mancano i momenti in cui bisogna ragionare (che sono sempre ben accetti dalla sottoscritta), e i personaggi sono, per la maggior parte, quelli che si sono imparati ad amare fino a ora.
Continuo a pensare che quella di Darren Shan sia un'ottima serie per i ragazzini a cui piacciono le avventure e un po' di sano horror e che magari hanno appena cominciato a leggere o vorrebbero cominciare. Io l'ho scoperta solo recentemente, ma penso che da bambina mi sarebbe piaciuta ancora di più.

Darren, poveraccio, fino ad adesso ne ha viste di tutti i colori. E dopo la morte del suo maestro, un uomo che considerava come un padre, Darren si è praticamente chiuso a riccio. Quindi capisco il suo non voler abbandonare Harkat nel momento del bisogno, il non voler perdere un altro amico. Darren è un Vampiro onorevole e coraggioso, e sono felice di aver scoperto un personaggio così, anche se mi è stato detto che diventerà una rottura di palle negli ultimi due libri. Spero proprio di no.
Harkat... Eh. Avendo avuto esperienze diverse rispetto alla persona che era in precedenza, è un personaggio ovviamente molto diverso. Harkat mi piace, chi era una volta no.

Ci sono anche delle cose che io (e i personaggi) attribuivamo a Tiny e che in realtà sono riferimenti a libri precedenti. Un esempio su mille, e che forse è uno spoiler, la gamba zoppa di Harkat.
Adoro il fatto che l'autore metta tutti queste informazioni e che tutto sia, in qualche modo, collegato. I draghi, Harkat, questo mondo distrutto... Penso che Darren Shan (l'autore) abbia fatto un ottimo lavoro, fino ad adesso.

Lo stile è sempre piuttosto leggero, adatto a dei ragazzi, e anche il linguaggio è un inglese molto semplice che penso possa essere accessibile a chi si accinge a leggere in inglese. In alternativa, potete trovare la traduzione italiana in biblioteca (in quanto la traduzione italiana è fuori catalogo).

Nel complesso, un buon libro rovinato (per me) da un grosso spoiler!

Me recordó mucho al libro de "Viaje al centro de la tierra". Cuando crees que Darren Shan ya no te puede sorprender, TE EQUIVOCAS. Le di 4 en lugar de 3 estrellas por la gran revelación al final del libro, la verdad no me lo esperaba, un poco extraña, pero me gustó.

THIS DOES NOT do much for the plot...

...but does provide an interesting story (okay, okay, so it does provide one essential thing to the plot...but I feel like that really could've been summed up on a sentence or two rather than devoting an entire book to it...)

In this harrowing journey, Darren and Harkat embark to save Harkat's mind from nightmares (which are slowly driving him crazy). They need to travel another dimension to figure out who Harkat used to be and hopefully that will be enough to prevent him from dying.

Most memorable: the dragons!! (though, they played a smaller role than that I would have hoped)

Most disappointing: this is still considered the Cirque du Freak series - when was the last time we even saw people from the Cirque? I get that every three books is it's own trilogy but then they should've be collectively called Cirque du Freak if you're not going to deliver on the title!

The tenth book in the series did not disappoint! This novel introduced Cannibals into the mix and at the tail end a startling revelasian, and where they are in space and time. I think there's only 2 more books in this series, Definitely looking forward to finishing it.

I really enjoyed this one and I'm excited to see how this series will end.
