In the 11th book of the best selling Cirque du freak series by Darren Shan,'Lake of souls harket goes and find out about his past. Harket is a little person who is dress in blue robes,no ears,no sense of taste or smell, and eats almost anything. This book shows him and Darren who goes to a quest to find Harket's past. They went against a jaguar, through a tunneled room, dragons and a lake of souls which shows all bad Vampires and vampaneze that broke the rule and didn't flow to paradise. The met a drunk guy and fed from him and helped him escape hes destiny to wait for strange people which are them. they went through a alter which scarafices girls and people to there great lord of wisdom and they destroy there god and the strange religion went against them.

I can connect to this because once me and my family went camping and were exploring someplace and then we met a hobo that told us a way and i got lost and thankfully came out safe and i also encountered a wolf so i was very frightened. Just like when Darren and harket got lost in the fog and a jaguar came and attacked them while they were traveling

i rated this book a 5 stars because it was verry detailed and it really draws your attention and you cant notput the book down. Once your done you are egared to get the next book because of how good it is.i recommand this book to teens and people that likes aa great fantasy and friendship with adventure packed in the hundreds of pages.

It’s been about two years since I read the last Cirque du Freak book, so some of the details of previous books are kind of fuzzy. But judging by the reviews I gave them at the time, it seems that despite a few problems, I’ve enjoyed the series as a whole.

While other installments had some filler and/or unnecessary plot points, The Lake of Souls felt almost entirely unnecessary to the overall plot of Cirque du Freak. It was kind of interesting to find out who Harkat Mulds was in his former life, but an entire book of the series dedicated to an adventure trek to find out who Harkat Mulds was? I think this could have been a subplot somewhere in another book.

On the plus side, Lake of Souls is not boring. Shan has a fun imagination, and he’s not afraid to use it. There were plenty of weird characters and plot twists, and it was interesting to see how Darren and Harkat navigated this world. If this had been condensed into a few chapters in a book about Harkat, I actually would have enjoyed it quite a bit. There is a lot of oddities at play in this one, and it was fun to see how Mr. Tiny created this world. But the whole time I was reading I became more and more irritated by how little this had to do with the vampire/vampaneze war, which is the main thread through all the Cirque books.

One other thing: what the hell was a pirate doing in this story? There was little point for having him, even if he did figure into the story a bit. His character takes the trophy for biggest cornball moment of the series.

Hopefully I finish this series this year. I’ll be glad to move on to other Darren Shan stories after this.

This is easily my least favourite book in the series. The plot comes to a grinding halt as Darren and Harkat go off on a way too long sidequest, and the vast majority of the book feels utterly pointless. It starts strong, and the resolution is interesting, but when it's possible to skip three quarters of the book and lose nothing of value there's a problem. I don't find the worldbuilding interesting in this, I don't care about the panther or the frog or the grotesque. It just feels like a trial run for The Demonata...

Darren Shan wanted to help Harkat Mulds find who he really was. In order to do that, they have to go to this other planet, where many creatures are placed there. All they had to do was find the lake of souls, but there are many obstacles during their journey. First, was the Jaguar they had to kill, to give them clues for there next mission. So, Darren and Harkat meets up with Evanna who stays with them for a short period of time. When Evanna left, and Darren and Harkat were exploring, a dragon appears and picks up both Harkat and Darren, almost putting them out of their misery. Luckily the dragon drops them both from many yards up. Later on this man called Spits, an ex pirate, found them both and treated them well. Then, Spits goes on the journey with the 2 guys, surviving over many dangerous creatures. Harkat now is fishing for his soul, and couldn't believe who he really was in the past, his old lost soul, it was the traitor of the vampire clan Kurda Smahlt! This book is about confidence, perseverance, and mystery.

“It can’t be!” Harkat croaked, as the man in the net — impossibly familiar — stared at us with terror-filled eyes.
“Harkat!” I roared. “That can’t be who you were!” My gaze flicked to the Little Person. “Can it?”

In the Lake of Souls Darren and Harkat set off on a journey to find out about Muld's past - who he really was as a human being, before he became a Little Person. Des Tiny takes them into an apocalyptic world full of monstrosities and gruesome monsters, that are hard to swallow even for someone as those two companions are. They encounter a black panther, dragons, huge toad and a Grotesque: the most horrible monster one can imagine, a true nightmare material. At the end of their journey they are expected to find what they are looking for - the Lake of Souls, from which they are to fish out Harkat's soul. Only once out of the water it will take on a tangible, human form and Harkat will then finally see who he used to be and will therefore obtain the much needed piece of his life's missing puzzle.

It would not be a proper Darren Shan book if there wouldn't be numerous twists and moments which make you hold you breath and anticipate the worst while hoping for the best. The Lake of Souls took me rather long to get through; I had a little book hangover, still unable to believe he events of the previous one. After I took my time to mourn, I was ready to fully indulge in this adventure and it, of course, was again a great one. It made me laugh quite many times (I love the lines Darren and Harkat exchange... well, their special relationship overall) and I even ALMOST cried once, when they fished the body out of the Lake.

Now I'm off to the next one!

This book counted as two books.

Darren and Harkat are on one of their biggest missions yet. For Harkat to discover who he used to be they have to go on a deadly quest. They go to a place where you might as well be asking for danger. Is this weird place another world, another dimension, Earth in the past? Will Darren and Harkat survive this terrifying journey?

This book wasn't like the others. It had more mystery and cliff hangers to it. almost as if Darren Shan the author has grown. Personally I loved it. Because it is such good writing it was almost like you were actually in that other place.

If your a vampire lover and love reading about other places like me, I recommend you read this book.

This is the tenth installment in the Cirque Du Freak series. I picked this book mainly because it took you away from the main conflict in the story and sent the main characters into a chaotic world which where humans became ants, and dragons became humans. To my surprise, that world was the future. I absolutely loved how the riddles to get to the Lake of Souls came together, such as the teeth with letters scratched on to them, the liquid bubbles that made bombs, and how Harkat found out that he was Also, I actually learned something from this book that most books that I've read in the past never touched on. I learned that everybody will always get a chance to make up for their mistakes. Overall, this book had almost everything I wanted in a book.

What a great plot twist! Also a great cliffhanger! This, by far, is the most unique of the Cirque Du Freak. At first, I was confused, I thought Darren and Harkat are on an alien planet! Also, Kurda is Harkat! Can't believe it! Dam Darren, you clever! *INSERT MIND=BLOWN GIF HERE*

Not one of my favorite. I am glad to know who Harkat was. I didn't exactly find the journey interesting but it wasn't boring or drawn out. As usual by the end everything made sense and tied together. 2 more to go

I've been listening to the audio books. I assumed, the very first time I heard about the Vampanese Lord way back in the days of yore, that it was Steve. Spent much of book 9 being exasperated by how very obvious it seemed. Then I chanced upon a spoiler as to how Larten Crepsley died. Shortly after that, came to the battle in book 9. I balked. I balked through reading one book and listening to two other audio books before I was able to bring myself to keep going. About two weeks.

The Lake of Souls is a welcome delight, an adventure story that also brought to light who Harkat Mulds really is, and thankfully I hadn't spent several books being pretty darned certain. If I hadn't stumbled upon a spoiler, I wouldn't have known. I did read the book finding it exasperating that when Mr. Tiny says the Lake of Souls is full of souls that could not leave Earth, our intrepid heroes didn't register what they heard. As these are books Darren has written "after", from his journals, I guess that's where perhaps it is himself saying "Why didn't I notice this the first time?" Darren O'Shaughnessy is a talented author. Most of his foreshadowing is incredibly subtle (why did the dragon obey Darren? Why was Mr. Tall so interested in the details about their being with Evanna on their journey? Whose bomb shelter was that, and how many years ahead are they? Love the subtleties. Can't wait to read the books about Larten. Trying hard to avoid spoilers about the rest of the Shan Saga.
