Fantastic for those who love the film. I imagine it lacks much of the experience of the novel or the movie for newcomers.

I'm sorry but I didn't get it...well I mean I got it: the language was easy to decider and get used to, the underlying connotations of you can't make a society to suit your means, free will...blah de blah..

...I just didn't GET it.

I grew up with people discussing this book and film as some miniature cult of artistic genius and always thought I should read. The guy on the cover was exotic, but slightly scarey so I stayed away until adulthood and then always put off, until I finally thought I should delve in. What I found was a character i detested and a plot I coulnt be arsed with. I then began to enjoy the book from prison onwards and was overjoyed at comupance received only to have the smarmy little bugger set free again with benefits.

Yes it must have been awfully progressive when written and ever so clever and thought provoking. I gave an extra star for the intelligence of the author. But at the end of that day, I just didn't enjoy it.

Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" screenplay, part of the ScreenPress Film Screenplays collection, provides an invaluable glimpse into the genius of a cinematic maestro. This beautifully presented volume offers film enthusiasts a rare opportunity to delve into the meticulous details of Kubrick's vision, showcasing the brilliance that brought Anthony Burgess's novel to life on the screen.

The screenplay's format, faithfully reproduced in this collection, allows readers to experience the narrative in the way Kubrick intended. The director's stage directions and annotations provide profound insights into his creative process, demonstrating the meticulous planning that went into crafting each scene. This adds a layer of appreciation for Kubrick's attention to detail and the deliberate choices that shaped the film.

The inclusion of the screenplay in this collection elevates it beyond a mere transcript. The insightful introduction and annotations provide context and background information, offering readers a deeper understanding of the creative decisions, challenges, and choices made during the adaptation process. This enriches the reading experience, making it more than just a script but a comprehensive exploration of Kubrick's filmmaking artistry.

The visual elements accompanying the screenplay, such as storyboard excerpts and production stills, enhance the overall presentation. These additions provide a visual context that aligns with Kubrick's meticulous vision, allowing readers to connect the written words with the iconic images that defined the film. The inclusion of Kubrick's handwritten notes and annotations adds a personal touch, offering a glimpse into the director's mind.

However, one minor criticism could be directed towards the layout and organization of the screenplay. The occasional clutter of notes and annotations might be overwhelming for readers seeking a straightforward reading experience. While these details undoubtedly contribute to the depth of understanding, a more streamlined layout could enhance accessibility for those less familiar with script analysis.

In conclusion, Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" screenplay, as presented in the ScreenPress Film Screenplays collection, is a treasure for cinephiles and scholars alike. Its meticulous reproduction, insightful annotations, and visual enhancements make it a must-have for anyone interested in the craft of filmmaking. While the layout may be overwhelming at times, this minor critique pales in comparison to the invaluable insights and richness this collection brings to the world of film literature.

A very welcome change to the ordinary lay out of sceeenplay books. Here Kubrick himself has chosen hundreds of stills from the film to illustrate and highlight key parts as we follow the dialogue. A bit more expensive as a result but definitely more special as a result. Great work with a great style of dialogue borrowed from the cult classic of a novella. A society becoming ever more familiar if you strip away the heavy layers of visual and auditory style more suited to the 60s.
