Hard to describe, great to read. A entertaining warning about youth, friends, prison, revenge, the future and mind control. I guess these where the things Kubrick worried about when not writing. a weak finish is what I would say is the biggest problem with this book, I just don't think a happy ending was appropriate.

This graphic representation of the film is a great way to review or pin-point a frame of the movie, plus clarify the sometimes hard-to-decipher Nadsat--the futuristic teenage slang--used by "Your Humble and Suffering Narrator." I read it multiply times, and pick it up and flip through it occasionally. Being an impressionable age, 18, when the film was released and seeing it for the first time at the Naval Amphibious Base theater (Coronado, CA) a year or two later, it remains as one of my top ten movies of all time.

I always wanted to read the novel but the first page, liberally sprinkled with slang, along with the Nadsat Glossary in the back always discouraged me, until I was offered a collector's edition of it from the Folio Society in London, UK. I purchased it and finished the novella yesterday; it is truly one of those books, for me, that you don't want to come to an end.

The movie and the Stanley Kubrick book here do great justice to the original. I highly recommend all materials concerning this work.

مع أنني أوقن أن ترجمة الرواية أفقدتها الكثير من جمالها وتفرّدها، إلا أنها مليئة بالعقبات التي تجبر الإنسان على التساؤل ومحاولة ربط أحداث الرواية بالواقع. الجانب الموسيقي، العنف الشديد، تضارب مصالح البشر وحرص كلٍ منهم على الوصول لمصلحته الخاصة بدون التفكير في العواقب، الجبر والإختيار، الخير والشر.. كلها أمور تطرق لها الكاتب بطريقة إبداعية.

رواية مميزة..

Nothing the writer missed nothing either the director impressed by his work his artistic vision & his death of work in motion. Great.

A disturbing book primarily focused on the twisted mind of an English hoodlum. I can't say I would recommend it to anyone - it was required reading in college.

It left me speechless.....

Interesting how minimalist the script itself is

Read this one a while ago, but enjoyed how it had it's on little language through out the book. It even had a glossary of terms. I found myself using these made up words at times.

The writer creates own playful language! A brilliant set of ideas, and a brilliant film.

لا أدري أي الموضوعين أولى بالحديث: الرواية أو مؤلف الرواية!، كلاهما مثير للعجب.
مهما يبلغ إعجابي بالرواية، علي أن أعترف أولًا أنني لستُ قارئًا جيّدًا للرواية، و أتعامل مع الرواية كانعكاس نفسيّ، اجتماعيّ، لزمان، أو مكان إنتاج هذا العمل، كصفحة أقرأ فيها ما لا تستطيع اللغة المنضبطة قوله، بعيدًا عن قانون القاعات الجامعيّة، و الفصول المدرسيّة، و العقل أحيانًا! و أؤمن جدًا بالروايات، و المذكّرات الشخصيّة كمادة خام لعالم النفس و الاجتماع.

و أعترف أيضًا أنّ ما شدّني لقراءة الرواية - قبل أن أعرف أنها من ضمن أفضل مائة عمل كلاسيكي أدبي- هو عنوانها السخيف: البرتقالة الآليّة، حتى لكأنني أنظر لغلاف قصة أطفال. الأمر الذي كان بوسعه دفعي لترك الرواية، و الاهتمام بشيء "أكثر نضجًا"! لكن لحظةً من التجاوز ، اتحدت مع رغبةٍ نزقة في الخروج عن النسق، و الرهان على شيء يبدو سخيفًا، و هذا ما حصل!

(ما زلتُ أنظر بتعجّل و أتسرّع الحكم على الأغراض حولي، من مجرد الانطباع الأوّل، و هذا ثالث اعترافٍ لي هنا، و هذا الأمر الذي يجب أن يخفّ مستقبلًا)

الرواية خليطٌ دراميّ، من أدب السجون، و أدب المذكّرات ، و أدب الرثاء، و السياسة!.. و هي عملٌ يتحدثُ عن مستقبل العاصمة البريطانيّة السياسيّ، و انعكاسه الاجتماعي على الطبقة المتوسطة، يخصّ المؤلف الشبّان.


العنف، العنف المضادّ، العنف المستتر، جذور العنف، التوبة، طلب الخلاص.. كلها موضوعات تناولتها الرواية بشكل دراميّ شيّق.
قطبا هذه الرواية برأيي: الإرادة الإنسانيّة، و أنانيّة السياسة.

الترجمة لا بأس بها، و أجدها مقنعةً في كثيرٍ من الحوارات.
