My relationship with this book is something from the "It's complicated" series... On the one hand, I understand it, but on the other hand, it's all so out of the blue that it has no arms or legs and I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT IT and I don't I feel this universe, and at the same time I feel it in a more disconnected concept, and on the other hand it has no foundation... It seems to stick together, but you don't feel the glue... I DON'T KNOW XD

I don't know, what should i write...entirely...But this book is so
incongruent with Dune, and on the other hand interesting, but crazy in an absurd way, that it certainly won't bode well... I don't know at the moment

WHY WOULD YOU BRING BACK EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER AS A GHOLA BUT NOT FEYD RAUTHA??? COME ONNN, HE'S PRIME GHOLA MATERIAL!!!

That's really all that happened here, just new gholas being born, growing up, studying who they were in their original lives and getting ready to put plans into motion.

But the thing is, WHY would you bring so many of them back when quite a few of them are useless to the storyline? Another review said it felt like a sitcom where they get the whole gang together for the ending and yes, that's exactly it. But still no Feyd Rautha. No, I will not let that go.

What I like is that we at least know the current number of Duncan Idahos, although I wish we had a proper number for every single life they brought him back to live. I just wanna know okay?

I'd also like to know how much of this was actually in Frank's notes and how much made up by Brian and Kevin...will we ever know? Hard to say.

it wasn't Dune, and it wasn't good. I was so fucking pissed when they finally revealed who the Enemy is (spoiler: it's no one you know)! also, fully half of the length of the book consists of recapping things that happened earlier in the series, earlier in the book, or even earlier in the chapter. if you told me that Brian Herbert & Kevin J Anderson were twelve year olds who snuck into Frank's office during a sleepover & wrote this book in the course of one Jolt Cola fueled night, I would say, "aww." but any other scenario is a fucking travesty.

(2 stars just because it's further adventures of Miles Teg & Duncan Idaho, two of my favorite characters of all time...)

Perhaps it is the time gap between reading the original series and all of the satellite series until returning now to the new books, but it took me a while to get my space legs anchored back into the various goings here. Plot-wise it did not carry much for me, even with all of the winking for a final reunion with returning characters from the various eras and the expected final enemies, it is not enough and was not hinted enough in previous books {AFAIK} to feel rewarding.
Perhaps it is simply a an overdose of spice reading for me..

Lyg skaitytum Silmarillion vietoj Lord of the Rings. Lyg skaitytum Wikipedia aprašymą vietoj Saga komikso. This is a total travesty. This is the first KJA/BH Dune book I've read, and it will almost definitely be the last. There's nothing redeemable in any of this. The author writes with an offensive level of distrust for the reader (and let's be real, it's all KJA. Brian is only on the cover to give it a sense of authority). His narrative is obtuse. There's no subtlety at all. It's as far from Frank's writing as anyone can get. And Frank is what makes Dune so good. This book is not good. It is not Dune. We all know a money grab when we see it, and this one is a monster. I'd rather have no closure from the original novels than to have this.

Hunters of Dune - Série Duna #8 – Brian Herbert e Kevin Anderson, baseado nos escritos de Frank Herbert | O começo do fim da Saga Duna! | NITROLEITURAS | Tor Books, 524 pgs, 2006 | Lido de 18.02.18 a 20.02.18| Nota 3.5 em 5

SINOPSE

Para isso, eles unificaram todo o material que produziram nas trilogias de prequelas Prelude to Dune series: Dune: House Atreides (1999) Dune: House Harkonnen (2000) Dune: House Corrino (2001) Legends of Dune series: Dune: The Butlerian Jihad (2002) Dune: The Machine Crusade (2003) Dune: The Battle of Corrin (2004).

I went into this book a little nervous because over 6 novels I learned to love Frank Herbert’s writing. He wrote in a style that took time to appreciate, and over the past 6 novels I grew accustomed to reading his prose. So, to shift to his son and Kevin Anderson was always going to bring something different. While Frank filled his novels with passages littered with subtle meaning, Brian and Kevin wrote this like high school seniors who were told once that they were good writers. Their writing is ultimately sophomoric in comparison to the original author, and the storyline suffered for it. You can tell that this novel is based on a plot structure created by Frank, but the odd writing of Brian and Kevin tends to ruin some of the biggest shifts in the story. One can also tell that the author pair wrote the book in two halves because about halfway through the style changes immensely. Overall, I am too obsessed with the Dune universe not to read, but I wish these two could just write better.

A much needed improvement storywise from the last two books, more action, more point of views. Yes, the writing style is much simpler but that was to be expected. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a big part of this story even though the characters seem like shells most of the time. For me it was a breath of fresh air from all the philosophical inner talk and the very very long chapters from the previous books. A big minus was Duncan Idaho, this character is completely destroyed in my opinion, ow well. I also wanted a more detailed last chapter, you'll understand why after you read it. 3.75*

I recently read through Frank Herbert's "Dune" series and was disappointed by the fact that he passed away before he could complete his final book in the series. His son and another writer teamed up to finish the series, and while I wasn't optimistic that it would be as deep and meaningful as Frank Herbert's work, I went into this reading with an open mind. I wasn't willing to write off Brian Herbert's work until I could experience it myself. For most of the book, I thought the plot was fine. There were some slight callbacks to Brian Herbert's other Dune-related books that he released after his father's death, but I didn't feel too out of the loop to have not read those six books.

The story itself wasn't as good as what Frank was able to accomplish, but I was fairly entertained along the way. Then, at the very end of the book, there is a reveal about some characters that Frank Herbert had created, and this reveal tied those characters into the stories that Brian Herbert had written. I felt upset about the direction that Brian Herbert chose to go in because it changed those characters for the worse, and it seems like this new direction does not line up with the plans that his dad had for these pivotal characters. I'm fine with Brian Herbert making money off of his dad's creation, but I wish that he had chosen to wrap up his dad's story without making his own books a crucial piece of the puzzle.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but it has its flaws. I recommend this to anyone who loves the Original Dune Books by Frank Herbert but also enjoyed the Legends of Dune by his Son Brian and Kevin J. Anderson.
