Unlimited power is the first book I’ve read about NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) by Anthony Robbins. If you seek to change your life, improve yourself or if you are simply curious about how you can adjust your perception of the world around you with cascading effects, this is for you.
General concept : the book focuses mostly on the principle that power lies in how you perceive your environment and how to reorient your emotions. Idea : you can change and train your brain to react differently to its first disposition by doing associations/dissociations in your head. Example : you can give some events more, less or a different impact on you by visualizing them and changing some aspects of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
Obviously this is only one of the many principles that makes the foundation of this very complete book. Unlimited power is mostly practical and give a lot of exercises to do, most of them, if done correctly, providing immediate results and can be fun to try. The examples may seem a bit dated (you have to keep in mind that the book was first published in 1986) but the theory is timeless.
If you have not seen Tony Robbins documentary “I am not your guru” on Netflix, I really recommend you do it. It really gives an idea of the incredible powerful charismatic energy he radiates. I must have seen it 5 times already, each time I am as moved (to tears), impressed and inspired.
I have read the book, and also listened to the audio series 3 times... and must for someone wanting to move past where they are and not just looking to learn, but use the information to make a change in their situation... even if it is already good.
This guy is a beast. I lack the vocabulary to explain the power of Tony and this book. You can read it once and be motivated. For a while.... BUT! If you take your take, follow the exercices, THINK, and pay close attention to the meaningful material it's impossible to still be the same person.
Here you will learn how to change your perspective to take every as a challenge in the best way possible. Succeed and get what you really want to get. Get rid of the bullshit. And program yourself into anything you want. Really! Anything!
But this has a price. And that price is Time, and Effort - Brain Effort. It's want most people lack and the most useful thing you should do, because you have SO MUCH to gain with it. Take notes, apply the concepts and you'll reach your goals faster than you thought possible.
PS: You really need to take your time reading and using this book.
It was a really nice book with a lot of useful ideas and tactics. I already tried some of them and I'm pretty happy with the results. Definitely I read the book again in the future. Highly recommended.
While this book is quite old by now it is filled with some great strategies for achieving success. I thought it would not be that great but after reading the first few pages I was blown away. See below for some of these strategies.
“Ultimate power is the ability to produce the results you desire most and create value for others in the process.”
“We live in a time when new ideas and movements and concepts change the world almost daily, whether they are as profound as quantum physics or as mundane as the best-marketed hamburger. If there is anything that characterizes the modern world, it is the massive, almost unimaginable, flow of information – and therefore change.”
“Action is what unites every great success. Action is what produces results. Knowledge is only potential power until it comes into the hands of someone who knows how to get himself to take effective action. Yet a closer look shows that the greatest gift that extraordinary successful people have over the average person is their ability to get themselves to take action.”
“Your level of communication mastery in the external world will determine your level of success with others – personally, emotionally, socially and financially. More important, the level of success you experience internally – the happiness, joy, ecstasy, love or anything else you desire – is the direct result of how you communicate to yourself. How you feel is not the result of what is happening in your life – it is your interpretation of what is happiness. Successful people’s lives have shown us over and over again that the quality of our lives is determined not by what happens to us, but rather by what we do about what happens.”
“It is important to remember that emotions like depression do not happen to you. You don’t “catch” depression. You create it, like every other result in your life, through specific mental and physical actions.”
“People who have attained excellence follow a consistent path to success. I call it the Ultimate Success Formula. The first step to this formula is to know your outcome, that is, to define precisely what you want. The second step is to take action – otherwise your desires will always be dreams. You must take the types of actions you believe will create the greatest probability of production the results you desire. The actions we take do not always produce the results we desire, so the third step is to develop the sensory acuity to recognize the kinds of responses and results you are getting from your actions and to note as quickly as possible if they are taking you closer to your goals or father away. You must know what you are getting from your actions, whether it be in conversations or from your daily habits in life. If what you are getting is not what you want, you need to note what results your actions have produced so that you learn from every human experience. And then you take the forth step, which is to develop the flexibility to change your behaviour until you get what you want. If you look at successful people, you will find they followed these steps. They started with a target, because you cant hit one if you don’t have one. They took action, because knowing it not enough. They had the ability to read others, to know what responses they wre getting. And they kept adapting, kept adjusting, kept changing their behaviour until they found what worked.”
“The first part of this book will teach you how to take charge and run your own brain and body more effectively then ever before. We will be working with factors that affect the way you communicate with yourself. In the second section, we will be studying how to discover what you really what out of life and how you can communicate more effectively with others as well as how to be able to anticipate the kinds of behaviour that different kinds of people will consistently create. The third section looks from a larger more global perspective at how we behave, what motivates us, and what we can contribute on a broader, extra personal level. It is about taking the skills you will learn and becoming a leader.”
“NLP provides a systematic framework for directing states and behaviours, but also the states and behaviours of others. In short, it is the science of how to run your brain in an optimal way to produce the results you desire.” “There are three fundamental ideas that must be duplicated in order to reproduce any form of human excellence. The first door represents a persons belief system. What a person believes, what he thinks is possible or impossible to a great extent determines what he can or cannot do. The second door that must be opened is a person’s mental syntax. Mental syntax is the way people organize their thoughts. The third door is phycology. The mind and body are total linked. The way you use your phycology – the way you breath and hold your body, your posture, facial expressions, the nature and quality of your movements – actually determines what state you are in. The state you are in then will determine the range and quality of the behaviours you are able to produce.”
“What and how we picture things, as well as what and how you say things to yourself about the situation at hand, create the state you are in and thus the kinds of behaviours you produce. There is an even more important and powerful factor in how we perceive and represent the world, and that is the condition and out pattern of use of our own phycology. Things like muscle tensions, what we eat, how we breathe, our posture, our overall level of biochemical functioning, all have a huge impact on our state.”
“Since we don’t know how things are, but how we represent them to ourselves, why not represent them in a way that empowers ourselves and others, rather than creating limitations. Remember nothing is inherently good or bad. Value is how we represent it to ourselves. We can represent things in a way that puts us in a positive state, or we can do the opposite. If we represent to ourselves that things are not going to work, they won’t.”
“But in the most basic sense, a belief is any guiding principle, dictum, faith, or passion that can provide meaning and direction in life. To change our own behaviours, we have to start with our own beliefs. If we want to model excellence, we need to learn to model the beliefs of those who achieve excellence. If you believe is success you will be empowered to achieve it. If you believe in failure, those messages will tend to lead you to experience that as well.”
“One of the key ideas of this book is that you are not just a leaf in the wind. You can control your beliefs. You can control the ways you model others. You can consciously direct your life. You can change. If there is a key word in this book, it is CHANGE.” “If you don’t believe that you are creating your world, whether it be your success or your failures, then you are at the mercy of circumstances. Things just happen to you. You are an object, not a subject.”
“There are two things we can change about our internal representations. We can change WHAT we represent – thus for example, if we imagine the worst-possible scenario, we can change to picturing the best=possible scenario. Or we can change HOW we represent something. Once we discover the different ways we represent things and how they affect us, we can take charge of our own mind and begin to represent things in a way that empowers rather than limits us.”
“The syntax – the way we order the actions – can make a huge difference in the kind of results we produce. If we discover what actions we take, and in what order, to make a decision, then we are indecisive, we can become decisive in a matter of moments. We will know which keys to hit and how to produce the results we want in our internal biocomputer.”
“The point here is for you to realize that even when you have little or no background information and even when circumstances seem impossible, if you have an excellent model of how to produce a result, you can discover specifically what the model does and duplicate it – and thus produce similar results in a much shorter period of time than you may have thought possible.”
“Awareness is a powerful tool. Most of us think our map of the world is the way it is. We think, I know what makes me feel loved. That must be what works for everyone else. We forget that the map is not the territory. It is only how we see the territory.” “Conversely, if you are having a hard time going to sleep, just slow down your own internal dialogue and create yawning, sleepy tones, and you will feel yourself become very tired almost immediately.”
“If you change your phycology – that is your posture, your breathing patterns, your muscle tension, your tonality – you instantly change your internal representations and your state.”
“Let me share with you the most effective way to breath in order to cleanse your system. You should breathe in this ratio: Inhale one count, hold for four counts, exhale two counts. If you inhaled for four seconds, you would hold for sixteen and exhale for eight. So here is the first key to living a healthy lifestyle. Stop and take ten deep breathes, in the above ration, at least three times a day”
“Fruit is the most perfect food. It takes the least amount of energy to digest and gives your body the most in return. The only food your brain can work is glucose. Fruit is primarily fructose (which can easily convert into glucose), and it is the most often 90-95 percent water. That means it is cleansing and nurturing at the same time. You must always eat fruit on an empty stomach. Why? The reason is that fruit is not primarily digested in the stomach. Fruit is designed to go right through the stomach in a few minutes and into the intestines, where it releases sugars. But if there is meat or potatoes or starch in the stomach, the fruit gets trapped there and begins to ferment.”
“Limited goals created limited lives. So stretch yourself as far as you want in setting your goals. You need to decide what you want, because that is the only way you can expect to get it.”
“Results are inevitable. If you don’t provide your mind with the programming of the results you desire, someone else will provide that programming for you. If you don’t have your own plan, someone else is going to make you fit into their plan.” “There are five guidelines for asking intelligent and precisely. As Specifically. As someone who can help you. Create value for the person you are asking. As with focused, congruent beliefs. Ask until you get what you want.
“Choose HOW questions over WHY questions. Why questions can get you reasons and explanations and justifications and excuses.”
“No matter what you want in life, if you can develop rapport with the right people, you will be able to fill their needs, and they will be able to fill yours. Rapport is the ability to enter someone else’s world, to make him feel that you understand him, that you have a common bond.”
“Studies have shown that only 7 percent of what is communicated between people is transmitted through the words themselves. 38 percent comes through the tone of voice.”
“One of the best ways to achieve rapport is through mirroring or creating common phycology with that person.”
This audiobook highlights many of Anthony Robbins points from his book Unlimited Power. Very few speakers can beat Tony's enthusiasm and larger than life charisma.
Highly recommend it - downloaded from itunes for $10 and have it installed on my ipod for listening again and again! Well worth $10!
Thank you Tony for how much you have helped to inspire several generations of readers and listeners to think outside the box and not to simply not accept mediocrity in their lives.
* Asmeninio augimo gidas pradinukams - parašyta paprastai, lengvai; * Platu - aprėpiama daug temų; * Didelis teksto šriftas - lengva skaityti.
NEIGIAMA:
Ne.
Ar skaityti buvo verta? Eh. Jei neturi ką geriau taiklesnio ir labiau suspausto paskaityti - pirmyn.
I like hr way Tony Robbins writes, as if you're having a conversation with him and I also liked the techniques he teaches. Hopefully if I can remember to do some of them I'll see some changes happening soon!
