Always love reading Dick Francis and flew through this one like the others. It’s evident this is an earlier work as the story wraps rather quickly at the end compared to some of his later books. Matt Shore provides an interesting perspective on the racing industry as a pilot outside the industry.

Pilot around people constantly escaping death. Pretty average on the DF spectrum.

The incomparable Dick Francis does it again- a rollicking mystery set in England, and at the racetrack. Matt Shore is a pilot who is hired to transport racing buffs and suddenly has to make an emergency landing before the plane explodes. He is then caught up in a rat race of criminals.

Love the blend of facts about flying and riding 4 star. ****

Really enjoy Francis' prescriptions and observations about people, their emotions and actions. His endings can seem blunt but he leaves readers the opportunity to determine their own closing events.let's

The ninth Dick Francis novel is, to me, more leisurely and less suspenseful than any of the first eight. I found it an engaging book, none-the-less, but not nearly as exciting as his previous works.

I have always enjoyed Dick Francis and am re-reading the series. This one is fun because there are both an experienced and a novice pilot in it, a reminder of my youth.

typical Dick Francis==couldn’t be better

Wasn’t sure I’d like the change of venue…but I loved it! Fascinating view of a whole new world, a side or horse racing the average person would never see.

Rat Race with real rats

Fast paced, informative, good read. Not like his other books that centered around the racing world and its plots, this book centered on the supporting businesses that keep racing on track. Gave it 5 stars due to the involvement of needed support to make racing possible.

In a brief forward, Francis talks about how he became knowledgeable about flying. He wrote several books with that backdrop. This is short, action-packed, and involving. The secondary characters are marvelous, as usual. Francis can get some emotions going with his clipped, factual style, and that happens here in the aftermath of the big rescue. I really enjoyed this one. The typically brusque and abrupt Dick Francis ending is unusually satisfying this time around.

I read Dick Francis when I can have an early night, 'cos I know I won't turn the light off until I've finished it, this was no exception (good job they are fairly short). One thing I like is that although still based around horse racing this time I learnt a bit about private plane hire - not something in my life style, as well as a fast paced story, with plenty of action.
