Very good

I really loved the characters in this Dick Francis novel. The mystery and the ending was great. It started off a bit slow and I didn't like all the technical details about flying.

Another exciting story with a different hero type in this book. An exciting page turner with another mystery solved as in only Dick Francis style

Rereading all the Francis novels in order. This is the first one I gave fewer than 5 stars to. I did not remember this one before I started (would have read it many years ago), and I did not recognize much of it as I went along. Not as memorable as the other books so far. Still a great story with engaging characters and an interesting plot. This one seemed to me to be slightly more transparent than the usual fare, which accounts for the 4- instead of 5-star rating.

A new author for me and certainly a great introduction to his style of writing. An enjoyable novel and interesting plot - enough characters and action to keep the reader interested throughout. I did feel it ended rather abruptly, but nonetheless was an engaging read.

Easy reading. Stretches credulity at several points but quite an accomplishment to make instrument flying seem even slightly tense.

Coming out of a long reading block, I was looking for something short, fun, and easy to finish. I honestly did not think I would finish this book as quickly as I did! It was the perfect choice. Impossible to put down. Matt Shore is charming and surprisingly relatable. Excited to read more by Dick Francis!

I don't quite know why this took so long for me to read it. It wasn't bad but somehow this didn't get me gripped and this was way too easy to put down after reading few pages every now and then.

I'm sure I have read this before but I didn't remember it enough to spoil my enjoyment. Such a good writer: good plots, good characters, exciting and fast moving. Not full of twists and turns but doesn't need to be, it holds the readers attention throughout.

I have to say he is a great author for a holiday read or for a quick read or when you can't find anything you fancy - which is not to undermine or undervalue him, just a great place to go when you need a good book - and thankfully still lots of his titles in the charity shops.
