Great book - just be aware that it does talk about Jefferson’s relationship with Sally Hemings. While it is discussed in a very judicious way & explains Jefferson’s own personal challenges with slavery in a balanced way, it may not be something you want to get into with younger readers. I’ve been reading these books with my 6 year old & it was a little deeper than I wanted to go with him at this age.

I have almost always found "Who Was" books very boring, except for this one, it wasn't as boring. I kinda got into the story about him. I thought it would have been hard to cope with so many deaths. He was also really hardworking. The book itself had too many pointless pictures.

It was a pretty decent book. Thomas Jefferson was a very busy person in my point of view. In his early live ho got a seat in the House of Burgesses, and later on he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He was also very talented with his violin. I felt bad for him because his wife had six children when only two survived, and later on Jefferson's wife died. He was devastated, but shortly later he fell in love with his dead wife's sister, and had six children with her. Overall I think Thomas Jefferson was an interesting man, with many talents, and many careers.

TJ's life: his tragedies and his joys. Tells it in the way a child can understand. It also doesn't make him perfect. It shows he had faults too.

I like the series because explains lives in terms kids can understand. It makes them human.

One of my favorite founding fathers.

Jefferson was a genius of his times. He still had his faults as a human being, but he strived to make them right. He was dedicated to his country, family, and friends.

Who Was Thomas Jefferson by Dennis Brindell Fradin is about the political life, personal life and how Jefferson's desire to eliminate slavery and why he didn't. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, governor of Virginia, and the third president of the United States. An interesting fact was that he did not want to write the Declaration of Independence, the shy Virginia Statesman refused at first, but then John Adams convinced him to write one of our nation's most important documents. Jefferson was also an architect, inventor, musician, farmer, and a slave owner. Growing up, Jefferson was a red haired, freckled face boy who loved to read, spoke several languages, and played the violin.
I enjoyed Who Was Thomas Jefferson. The book takes you through his life from childhood to presidency. The illustrations gives you the feel of the era. Also the side- side timelines of Jefferson's life and world history of the times are a good addition.
This book is great for kids and adults. The book is an excellent source for reports or those fascinated by history. It is also a great book for adults to refresh their memory. I really enjoyed the details and learning interesting facts about Thomas Jefferson from this book.

I took my kids to see T Jeff's house, Monticello. I think they enjoyed their visit. I think that maybe they would like to live there themselves, or sit in his box and stare at his vast estate. Impressive house, impressive man.

I really do enjoy these Who Was/Who Is books very much! You can get a great little overview of a life in 30 minutes! However, I felt all over the place with this one. It is jam-packed!!

I have been to Monticello, one of the loveliest homes on the planet. I saw Jefferson’s “copier” and remember it quite vividly. I would love to return one day with my history-loving husband in tow.
