The American Dream is to own your own home. It might be easier than you think to do so. In The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner: A Powerful Plan to Finish Rich in Real Estate by David Bach, we learn how it just might be possible.

David Bach provides his readers with lots of resources. Even though this book was written in 2005, back before the housing bubble burst, the advice Bach provides is just as useful today.

Bach actually foresaw the possibility of a housing bubble and warned against it. He even told his readers how they could have avoided it. In fact, if everyone who was thinking about buying a home in 2006 or after had read The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner, the housing bubble burst might not have damaged as many people.

We give The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner all five stars. It is very informative, very well-written, and easy to follow. If you are thinking about purchasing a home, you owe it to yourself to read this book and avoid multiple mistakes.

Some good points, but very outdated and out of touch given the choices of examples and publishing in 2006.

parts of this book is catering to the aspirational during the run-up to the financial crisis of 2008. That being said there is still important topics discussed and things to know in this book. I just would not expect homeownership the to the sole driving force for wealth accumulation [millionaire status]

Some great info. Some outdated info (it was written over 12 years ago). Some completely misinformed info.

A great book for those who have zero knowledge about buying a home. It is a much more fun read than other books on this topic.

Buying a home in order to take a tax deduction rarely makes sense. David writes, "The best way to stay poor is to pay more than you have to in taxes." Close. The sentence should read, "The best way to stay poor is to pay more than you have to." People who buy a home in order to get a tax break aren't asking the correct question. The question they should as is, "How do I reduce the amount I pay." More often than not it is cheaper to pay the taxes you'd otherwise have deducted than to pay so much interest to a mortgage company in order benefit from itemizing on your taxes.

9/10, straightforward advice, easy to read, anyone can do the process the book teaches. Author is credible and seems like he cares more about real life than he does money.

Although this book is sort of basic on some of its messages, it is quite inspiring to get people to buy their first home. I even put a deposit on my first condo within a few months after reading this book the first time.

(Too be fair, this was not the book I was trying to read. As an assignment for an upcoming business class I was assigned his other book - The Automatic Millionaire. Unfortunately when I ordered the book online I didn't pay enough attention and purchased the Homeowner edition instead. But I tried to be fair in my assessment of the book.)

I think that the heart of the advice this book offers is in fact very helpful, although it is only 270 something pages, so it's not very thorough. Unfortunately a lot of the information is now out of date. For instance, it's very unlikely that some of the mortgage programs mentioned in this book are even available anymore.
There are probably better books with more up to date information available on this subject, now. But if you are looking for a good over view than this book should do well for you. He also shares valuable websites where you can find more information on mortgages and loan programs. If this is something you are very interested in pursuing, (And keep in mind, this is NOT a book about real estate flipping. It's about using real estate as a long term investment.), then you may find this book more helpful than I did.
