Definitely a gentle read, written for the Christian fiction market. I felt this one didn't really have much of a plot; I guess you'd almost call it more of a "coming of age"-type novel. Our main characters are searching for their place in the world and their "calling."

For those enjoying historical fiction and family sagas, this series is one that slowly covers Canadian/USA history. I will follow up with the next in the series. We're just now dealing with the build up to the American Revolution. Most of the action in this particular novel actually took place in England.

I loved this installment of the series. It had some predictable and some very unpredictable parts. I just love how we've been able to see Charles' transformation.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

And thus the series continues...

Nicole and Anne's lives change drastically. Nicole moves to England to become Viscountness for her uncle Charles, and Anne suffers a dreadful loss in her life. I could understand Nicole's character a lot. She doesn't know what is expected of her life. Even at the end she does not know what holds for her in the future, which brings you to book four!

When I read this series for the first time three years ago, book three was my favorite. I still really enjoyed it, but I didn't like the last third of the story as much. When Judith is introduced-Cyril's mother-you don't get a good insight into her character. By the end I really like her, but at first you want to know more about her life. It also seems a little odd Judith throwing the surprise at the end. It IS a surprise, but just on the side of being slightly eye rolling.

I LOVE Thomas and Anne's romance. Although I love Cyril's character dearly and cry every time he dies, I will admit that Thomas grows on me every time I read this series. His character is interesting and unsusual from the normal "tall, handsome" characters. And the interest Anne shows toward Thomas isn't because of looks, but instead she loves the passion he shows in his work. Percy and Thomas are some of my favorite characters, and every time it said Percy was perched on the sofa I snickered.

I also enjoyed seeing the British point of view concerning the American Colonies. I especially like the scene when Uncle Charles is in court fighting for the rights of the Colonies. That would make for a great movie (well, the whole book would)!

One quote that really stood out to me:

"'So long as I base my happiness upon what I have or how life suits me, it will always remain fleeting....I need to find my happiness in God, and in Him alone. By playing my life in His hands and seeking to live as He wants me to, I now have a peace that's greater than whatever struggle I might face. My frustrations and my difficulties, all these will pass. But He remains. And it's in His eternal promises that I must abide.'"

Third book in the series where Nicole and Anne arrive in England at the beginning of the American Revolution to stay at Uncle Charles's estate. Will Nicole become his heir? Will Anne recover from the death of her husband?

Some holes I found:
Poor Henri and Louise are totally forgotten somewhere in South Louisiana never to be heard from again. Apparently they have no idea their daughters are in England. Seems strange.

While Anne and Thomas are talking in the garden, Anne says Charles has John and they are out riding. But in the next scene Charles is watching Anne and Thomas out of his study window while waiting on Percy. No mention of John lol.

When Charles was in Louisiana he promised land to the people in exchange for finding Henri. So far, we haven’t heard anything about this promise. Was it fulfilled??

The Birthright #3 Song of Acadia by Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn

I love this series and looked forward to continuing the story of these two families and the situation they find themselves in. Both families have made sacrifices out of compassion and love that impact both families in ways they would not have envisioned. As the years go by so quickly...but slowly in many ways...they hope to reconnect and gather loved ones close. Illness brings heartache and grief but joy as well. Danger is still part of their lives even after all these years. My heart aches for these two woman and the separation they endured and the decisions they must make. Anne and Nicole are two of my favorite characters. Both traveled down a far different path in life than they would have had decisions made years past not been needed. A heartwarming story and series.

Another excellent sequel!

God many times wants our willingness to give up our plans but as I learned in my life, he does not always require that we do, just that we get to a spirital place in our walk with him that we will say whatever you require.

I read this book not knowing that is was part of a series until after I already started it. Although the book can be read on it's own, it does leave some questions about their back story that I am assuming can be learned in the other books. I really liked this book but the whole way thru I was trying to figure out how the girls became switched in the 1st place (especially during that time period). I will just have to find a copy of the other books to find out, I guess.

Another wonderfully worded nivel

This is the 3rd book of the series and yet again I couldn't easily put the book down. I will be buying the 4th book today.
