Very silly book that shows animals wearing clothing. From these pictures we can see the reason why animals should not wear clothing.

Fourteen different reasons why animals shouldn't wear clothing. No animals were harmed in the examples used in this book, while wearing the items of clothing, well maybe one.

Funny illustrations. Would be a good book for preschoolers to come up with the captions for.

Amusing illustrations of animals dressed in preposterous outfits will give readers and listeners gleeful giggles, especially before bedtime after wee ones have put on appropriate pajamas.

I grappled with the rating on this book. This is a plotless book in which each page is basically a list of why animals shouldn't wear clothing. But its simple big bold text, situated on a page of its own, compliments the art with comedic timing that makes this a hilarious read. The illustrations are unique in that it is sketched with black ink. Patches of colors in hues of red, green and brown accentuate the clothing of the [almost black and white] animals. The illustrations are quite funny. I gave this book a 5 stars for its entertainment value. I could look at the illustrations over again. There are a few I wouldn't mind taping to my wall. The most interesting for me is that this book was published in 1970. It's 2014 and this is the first time I am reading it.

Interesting note: My son passed on this book before even thumbing through the pages. I asked him why. He said "it looked boring." I agree that the long title which reads like a sentence on a cover with the author and illustrator credits following it like a paragraph, did look unappealing against a green background. Pair this up with a black and white porcupine in ripped clothing that's like an illustrated cliche and this book easily gets lost. But imagine a chicken laying an egg with pants on. Now THAT should've been on the cover. :)

So in the world of books, people do judge a book by its cover!

I love Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing. Each page begins with "because" and a reason why a specific animal should not wear clothing. The pages are often very funny and many of them offer opportunities for discussion -- simply asking the child, "Why shouldn't this chicken wear pants?" should suffice. The kids will love pointing out different parts of the illustration and coming up with their own reasons.

I could also see accompanying this book with a discussion of when animals should wear clothing. For example, at a sloth sanctuary, baby sloths may wear little sweaters. But they're functional! Not just cute. (But also cute.) Discussing the realistic aspect of animals in clothing would go really well with the silly aspect of this book.

Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing is a fun book that I'd love to share with children.

Animals Should Definately Not Wear Clothing is definately appropriate for those children who are being introduced to picture books. The whole concept the this book is very humerous and allows the reader to take a closer look at each animal's characteristics by the tpye of clothing they are wearing. Students will be able to see that all in all clothes are not meant to be worn by animals for many reasons. The overall display of the book is without a doubt very appealing by the color choice Ron Barret chose to create for the book's cover. The front and back cover also go hand in hand as it, as a whole, tells a story through picture. On the cover it may just book like a porcupine wearing a dress, but if you turn the book to the back page you can see that the porcupine on the front cover is actually looking at itself in a mirror on the back. It is also obvious the both the author and the illustrator must have had some type of agreement when deciding where text and illustrations were to be placed. Throughout the entire book, Judi's text remained on one page in very large font, while Ron's pictures took up the other page and varied in size.

Some pictures are funnier than others, but overall it's a silly, fun book. I especially got a chuckle out of the sheep, the moose, the elephant, and good guffaw out of the hen picture!

Little Miss EG will dig the silly humor, I bet. I'll save this one to read to her myself. I look forward to her reactions. She'll say something, I'm sure, that will make me laugh out loud.
