This is a very funny story and I could see children really enjoying it. This story talks about reasons animals shouldn't wear clothes. For example, it says that opossums might wear their shirts upside-down because they hang upside-down from trees. It also shows a camel wearing hats on its humps. This story could be used to spark some creativity and imagination amongst students in first or second grade. The students could come up with some of their own reasons why animals shouldn't wear clothing or as a class, we could write our own story about why animals shouldn't do something else. This could be very fun for students to come up with their own ideas and we could make a bulletin with pictures of all of these things.
In the Classroom: the students could learn proper use of comma's, and how they are used to break up ideas in a paper, as each page is broken up by commas because each page is a separate idea, but on the same topic. the students could do that by making a story very similar to this one, about anything of their choosing.
Illustrations: simple and effective, by showing how why the text is correct.
I really enjoyed this book. The author of this book is Judi Barrett and her husband, Ron Barrett, is the illustrator. Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing is their second book written together. This book is made in a landscape shape. Throughout the story, the illustration is always on the one page of the book and the text on the other. The type face is large, bold, and black. Each page with text is backed with a brightly colored page. The illustrations, however, have a white background. The illustrations use line and cross hatching with a little bit of color added on the clothing. They are very realistic and well done.
You can't go wrong with a book that kids think is hysterical and they also get to become familiar with animals and clothing and why certain situations are just not a good idea.
Judi and Ron Barret did a marvelous in creating this funny and adorable story. The title matches exactly what is happening in the story and it progresses from one animal wearing clothing to the next. Each page express a silly statement of why that animal should not wear clothing. Young children would laugh and laugh when following along with this story. The illustrations contain a picture on one side in the middle of the page with lots of white space and on the other page is the large fonted text with a bright colored background behind it. This way of writing is appealling to the eye and very fun! Overall, a lovely, hilarious, and recommended book for young children!
