Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing by Judi Barrett is a seemingly silly and fun book for young readers. Just from looking at the cover of this picture book, I knew that I would have a few giggles while I read along. Whether it was an opossum wearing his shirt upside down, to a billy goat eating his pants, this book had it all.
Although the book is quite humorous, it is evolving great sentence structure for your kids. Every time I flipped a page, I would remember "animals should definitely not wear clothing..." before I read the "because a camel might wear it in the wrong places." The tone is very light-hearted, and all around an extremely fun book to read.
The realistic illustrations made the text even more believable. In some picture books, your imagination can wonder, but somehow the blunt pictures make the text more enjoyable to read. The bold text on fun colored pages also draws your attention away from the picture and your focus becomes the words. The illustration is there to validate the picture in your mind to what the author was intending you to see.
