Books about food are always an amazing read in my experience, especially when intriguing artwork, creativity and originality are added to the mix, when undoubtedly I'm bound to be enchanted.
In this short novel a witty Grandpa tells his grandchildren the story of the tiny city of Chewandswallow, where food falls from the sky and the people have no need for fridges or grocery shopping. The first pages impress the reader as different meals and their delivery are described in detail, until something goes terribly wrong...

The movie adaptation is wonderful and so is this book. I loved the illustrations!
Although the plot is very plain and childlike (that's why it is a children's book) yet I loved it.
I wish there were a place like Chewandswallow. :P

Three stars for the story, the fourth for the illustrations, which were wonderful. We are now longing for a giant pancake to land on our school!

The plot takes place in a small town, called Chewandswallow in present day format."Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" starts out with the grandpa telling the story to the kids after breakfast one morning. The story leads to him saying that there once was a town. The town was a strange town that had strange weather changes. Instead of rain it would rain food, such as pizza, pancakes and meatballs and much more. This book is an odd but interesting read.

The story takes place on a island with a small town located on it. There were only a couple hundred people that lived here, but it was a peaceful little town. The main characters are the two kids and the grandpa. The kid's father is mentioned, but no names were given in the book. This book was really interesting, because it is out of the weird twist that are in the book.

The story takes place on a island with a small town located on it. Who ever knew so much could go so wrong in just one week? This story took place in just a small town called ChewandSwallow. ChewandSwallow was just a little urban town like Weyauwega. Everyone knew each other and everyone was there to help one another out.

This book was interesting,to the point that I wanted to keep reading. This is funny, comical book, that I would recommend this book to any one of any age that is having a bad day! The average person can read this book in under ten minuets. I rated this book three stars, because I did like it but not as much as I was expecting.

In case you're wondering, I'm doing everything I can so I don't go back to the Crooked Kingdom. :D

Again, I didn't know this is a book. I've seen both animated movies and I liked them. This is a slightly different story, but it's beautiful nonetheless.

We have a very nice grandpa telling his two nephews the story of the city of Chewandswallow, a city where people don't buy food at the store. The food just comes down from the sky instead of rain or snow.

My son (10 years old) was so excited when I brought this book home from the library to read and discuss with an online group. "That's the best picture book ever!" he exclaimed. "But it's nothing like the movie." And even though he's proud to be a tween and considers himself practically grown up, he grabbed the book out of my hands to read it again.

It is an excellent story, very imaginative. I loved the setting - a grandfather telling his grandchildren a tall tale that kept their imaginations going the next day. It brought back pleasant memories of stories that my own grandfather told me.

"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" by Judi Barrett is a bedtime story told by a grandfather of a town called Chewandswallow, where the weather creates all sorts of food and drink for the people living there. The weather eventually takes a turn for the worst and the people must evacuate this world of raining food.

This story is told from the perspective of "Grandpa" and telling it to his grandchildren. This story seems to be a personal experience to him which is evident at the end of the story.

There is no direct setting besides the location of the land in which the town of Chewandswallow is. It is also a story from the past which is told in present day.

Even though this story is one of fiction it has a good theme to it. The theme is to never take anything for granted for it may change to something terrible otherwise. It is shown in the story how the people love the world they live in but never do anything to appreciate it and soon everything changes.

This is a great story. I would recommend it to a audience of children. I would recommend it to children, because it has a simple storyline along with colorful illustrations.

Now I want pancakes. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs will incite all sorts of cravings, both of the savory and sweet variety. Imagine a world where food literally falls from the sky; next you'll tell me money grows on trees!

I used this for a mentor text while teaching cause/effect last year, and it worked well. I appreciate the commitment to the tall tale and the frenetic energy. Though, if I had to choose, June 29, 1999 is my pick for fantastical exaggeration.

This book is about a town called Chewandswallow where there was different weather three times a day. It came for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It rained food that everyone ate from the sky. One day everything starts to go wrong. The broccoli end up burned, the pea soup caused a dense fog, and then there was nothing but Gorgonzola cheese all day long. The townspeople became distraught and had to decide what to do with this terrible weather.

The narrator of the story is two kids at their grandpa's house. They are telling their grandfather's story about the town of Chewandswallow. At the beginning of the book they thought it was just a story made up by their grandpa, but at the end they thought the snow outside was made of mashed potatoes and that the sun was melted butter.

The book takes place during modern times in a town called Chewandswallow. The town was named this because of the food that fell from the sky.

A theme is this book is the theme of believing in stories. The kids bought into their grandpa's story and had a good time in their imagination.

I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone of any age. It it fun to read and good entertainment.

One of my childhood favorites. The story is still imaginative and entertaining. The illustrations are also fun, with lots going on. A lovely one to revisit as an adult. I didn’t know there were sequels so I will probably check those out as well sometime. I kind of want pancakes now. I'm definitely hungry.

The story “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” begins when two children are getting ready to go to bed. Their grandpa comes into their room and decides to tell them a bedtime story. The tall tale describes how far away, there is a town where all the people eat only food that falls from the sky. Each day, the weather brings in the appropriate food and proportions for three square meals. Eventually, the portions and the food itself becomes too much. This in turn causes the town to be nearly destroyed and abandoned.

This story is told by the children’s grandfather. There are many characters that are described directly, but none of them have names; except for the man’s grandson, Henry.

“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is set in a place called Chewandswallow. This town is located two oceans, two deserts, and lots of bumpy mountains away from the children’s home. There is not a specifically mentioned time period in which the story takes place.

The main theme in this book was learning to deal with weather. Even though wind or precipitation comes in the form of food, the people of Chewandswallow learn to deal with the conditions.

This book is extremely simplistic, and would entertain anybody. Because of this, I would recommend “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” to anybody of any age.
