“Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs,” is a children's book written by Judi and Ron Barrett. The book started off with a family eating breakfast that morning. When grandpa flipped some pancakes onto the table where Henry and his sister sat, he accidentally landed one on Henry’s head. The night of the incident, grandpa had a great bedtime story that he told the kids. It was about a city named Chewandswallow. It was like all other cities except that the weather was what the people of the city ate for food everyday. Each day it would “rain” different meals three times per day. The people would carry their own plates and utensils along with them and they would watch the weather report to see what they had to eat the next day. One day then the storms for the three meals had gotten too strong that the food was piling up and leaving people stranded. As the days by, the storms had gotten worse and worse, until the garbage people couldn't keep up with cleaning up the extra food. Then the mayor of Chewandswallow said they all had to get on boats and find new land. In the end after leaving the city, all of the people in the town made it to a new shore with more people there. It ended up being a regular town where the storms were rain and you had to buy your own food.

In this story there is no main character because the author talks about the people of the town as a whole instead of an individual. The other characters in the book are the children being told the bedtime story by their grandpa and the grandpa himself. Those characters are not described at all besides in pictures. Without having a main character the book still went along great and still kept the same focus.

The setting of the story mainly takes place in the bedroom of the grandchildren while being told the bedtime story. In the bedtime story the setting is mainly in the city of Chewandswallow. In the end of the story the whole town ended up in a regular city like ours today. The setting and the story are very well described on how the city looked and turned out to be with the bad storms passed through. The time of the story can be set from present time to way in the future on an island somewhere.

I would recommend this to any parent or child who would want to read this before bed or just as a fun and good story. It is a very short and easily read story and it went along the lines of the movie if the children have watched it. i rate this book a four out of five because it is overall a good but the the storms that keep coming get repetitive.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a silly story that Grandpa tells about the make-believe town of Chewandswallow. In this town, there are no food stores or restaurants, and nobody ever cooks anything because all of their food comes from the sky! Whatever the weather is that day is what they eat, so three times a day it rains soup, or snows mashed potatoes, or the wind blows in a storm of hamburgers. Life was great in Chewandswallow until the weather took a turn for the worse, with the food getting larger and the portions getting humongous, until the town was completely shut down by the mess. They knew they could find a better life, so they all packed up their things, used some giant pieces of bread and peanut butter to build ships, and sailed onto a new town, where they found it astonishing that it rained water and not syrup. A theme for this book could be that life can change unexpectedly and we always have to be prepared!

I love this book because it reminds me of the crazy stories my Grandpa would tell me when I was a little girl, and although they were never quite the same as Chewandswallow, they always had me laughing and created really special memories that I still remember today.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good make-believe story, but especially to kids who will really get a kick out of the illustrations of giant pancakes falling on schoolhouses and huge hamburger clouds!

A very imaginative story! If I wanted food to fall from the sky, what would it be? That would be a nice exercise for kids who read the book. The sequel, Pickles to Pittsburgh, wasn't nearly as good. This one, though, is a winner.

tThis is one of the books I remember best from childhood. The absurdity of the town of Chewandswallow having all of its food falling the sky is delightful, and the illustrations do a great job of conveying both the absurdity, and the danger of a massive pancake overtaking the school. The book was a favorite to be read during library time in elementary school, and the illustrations are iconic enough to be instantly recognizable. Who doesn't recall the change from black and white to vibrant color as Granda's tale begins?

This book has endured as a classic for good reason, and proved a very charming reread. I love the illustrations even more now, and was able to pick up on some of the background jokes in the name of the television station, the fact that during the tomato tornado a lady was reading Gone With the Wind, etc. I can't imagine the book losing its luster too quickly for any child reading it, as it remained a classic in my mind growing up.

I had no idea that this book had sequels, though! I have to admit, I am a bit curious...

Oh goodness; I just reordered this to see if I'd love it as much as I did as a kid, and the answer is no. I love it way more. The prose has the perfect tall-tale ring to it, and the illustrations are inspired and inspiring. Never has a storm cloud of hamburgers rolling in over distant fields been captured so perfectly.

I very much enjoyed reading "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," by Judi Barrett. This childhood book is about a grandpa who tells his two grandchildren a bed time story. The story the grandpa tells, happens to be the main story of the book. The food became so disgusting to eat, and people wouldn't leave there homes because the food was getting bigger. It would cover the streets or collapse buildings. Storms of all different food types destroyed everything it touched. I am not going to say what happened in the end because I don't want to spoil it for people who have not read this book.

In "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," it was hard to pick out who was the main character. When the book first starts it’s the eldest of the two grand children telling about how her grandpa told the story about Chewandswallow. Then the grandpa is next in line to be the main character because he is the one telling the story. The people of Chewandswallow also become the main characters because of what they had to go through.

The story takes place in a town called Chewandswallow. This is a dull and normal town, except for one thing. The weather that passes over Chewandswallow feeds the people of the town. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, different meals fall from the sky. Everyone in Chewandswallow enjoys the food and the freaky weather, but then things start to change.

When I was a child I was read this book many times. My sister, brother and I would imagine what it would be like if the weather was this way were we lived. In the beginning of the book it showed a grandpa telling stories to his grandchildren. I didn't have a grandpa that did that but I had my mom and she told the story in a different way each time.

I would recommend this book to little kids who love to use there imagination. I would rate this book an eight. First grade and up, could read this because it is easy to read. Parents will enjoy it also. I personally loved it and know other kids will too. I rate this book and eight because its fun and imaginitive.

"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" was such a cute book! This book starts out as a story that is being read to this mans grandchildren. The story is about a little town called chewandswallow. This town isn't like any normal town, in chewandswallow people don't have to buy food they get their food from the sky. Every day during breakfast, lunch and dinner food falls from the sky and people go out and gather it. After a while the proportions got larger and the food storms became more dangerous and everyone had to leave the little town.

This book is told first-person narrative. The story about the town chewandswallow is told by the grandfather. The grandfather who is telling this so believed fictional story is also a man who lives in the town of chewandswallow.

This book first takes place in the home of the grandfather and then moves to the fictional town called Chewandswallow.

I believe the theme of this book is about the weather and how humans have an affect on it. It shows younger children how the weather can change at an instant. It can be server like the tomato tornado in the book or something as simple a milk rain.

I recommend this book to younger children because its easy to understand but yet it shows them how the weather can change at an instant.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is one of my favorite books. I read it again tonight and realized it is now 32 years old. It could have been written yesterday. It has stood the test of time. I believe years from now I will still have the same thoughts. This book holds a special place in my heart because it is a book I shared with my 2 sisters and 2 brothers. I think most little boys and girls love stories in the larger-than-life category and of course it helps that it has to do with food. Who doesn't love food? The title of this book is just perfect to explain what the book is about. Food and the weather. I get lost in the illustrations everytime I read the book. I have to pause and look at all the fun little details. I think it was a great idea to start and end the book in black and white and to make grandpa's story section color. It adds extra charm to the book. I didn't know this husband and wife team also did two other books besides the sequel Pickles To Pittsburghuntil tonight. I am excited to read them. I will add them here for others who might not know and maybe interested Animals Should Definitely Not Act Like People Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing

I have zero impulse control and will gladly re-read whatever nostalgic picture book I see on the recently returned shelf.

I typically don't review or track them-- it feels like I'm cheating towards my reading goal?-- but this one made me feel so warm and fuzzy I couldn't help but comment on it. My familiarity with this book comes from having it read to me as wee lass and I've never held the book close enough to notice the minute details. One specific detail that blew my mind is that the present-day framing device is mostly black and white while the fantasy segment in Chewandswallow is in color. Such a simple art feature, but a cool one to rediscover as an adult!

I discovered this book in first grade, and it is my all-time favorite early childhood book. I have made a point of reading it to my daughter, niece, and grandsons when they were little.
