Three animal friends . . . a lion, a tiger, and a dog . . . practice balancing apples on their heads. Soon it is a contest to see how many apples they can balance on top of their heads.

What will happen if the apples drop? And how many apples can each of them put up on top?

=========

The target audience for this introduction to counting book is the beginning reader, ages two through five, preschool through second grade. Count on hilarity as the characters balance more and more apples on their heads while unexpected things happen.

As with all Dr. Seuss books, there is an element of absurdity that early readers will enjoy. The illustrations are bright and colorful, encouraging the child to interact with the story.

Beginner Book uses familiar words, repetition, and picture clues to help beginning readers achieve success. Told in rhyme, this easy-to-read story will help beginning readers develop skills that lead to independent reading.

Highly recommended.

Been using this book at work for reading and counting programs with my job. It’s super fun and everyone enjoys it. Dr. Seuss never fails!

If you like rhyming, counting, lions, tigers, and what I can only assume is a dog interacting with each other, then this book is for you! Well... maybe, maybe not. I love all of those things, but I honestly make my husband read this to our infant at night because I'd rather read the other  Dr. Seuss books to her.

I think the counting is "too advanced" for my daughter at this stage. Not because they count to ten, but because it's quick paced and a lot of apples (up to 10 on each character) on a page. It's just too much going on. And... not interesting enough for me. So... sort of a lose/lose situation here. Even my daughter likes this one the least. She prefers  The Foot Book or  The Tooth Book.

This book is a good book to use to help students learn how to count and could easily be coupled with a number of sensory activities and crafts.

Ten Apples Up On Top is about a lion, dog, and tiger competing to see who can stack the apples on their heads. I would use this book to teach counting up to 10.

This book helps teach children how to count to ten. This book uses fruit they can identify with and it keeps their attention during the counting.

A counting book. And sillier than I remember. The text is kind of lame. The art is actually also kind of lame. This is kind of in good fun. And the story itself is fun all the way through. And there is a mild twist at the end. 3.5 of 5

The kids thought animals balancing apples on their heads was funny. I read this as a kid too. A silly story for bedtime. An oldie and a goody. Quaint pictures.

I had never read this as a child and was pleased to find it.

We first used it as an early reader, but it works great as a read-aloud for little guys too. The words are fairly easy and mainly phonetic or sight words. It's fun and has a good rhythm as well.

This book would also work well for math - counting as apples are added and taken away, as additional people join, etc.

Read this with my daughter the other day and remember how much I loved it as a kid.
