I Can Read With My Eyes Shut
tIn the book, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut, by Dr. Seuss, the author conveys the message that while we can do many things with our eyes closed, we should always keep them wide open because we miss so much when they are closed. I really like this book not only because of the important message it conveys, but also the bright colored, fun pictures on every page.
In the beginning of the book, the author talks about all the things you can do with your eyes closed. He says “I can read Mississippi with my eyes shut tight. Mississippi, Indianapolis and Hallelujah too! I can read them with my eyes shut! That is VERY HARD to do!” However right after he says, “But it’s bad for my hat and makes my eyebrows get red hot. So…reading with my eyes shut I don’t do an awful lot.”
In the middle and end of the book, the author talks why it is so important to keep your eyes open. If you don’t keep your eyes open, you miss so much going on in the world around you. He says “There are so many things you can learn about BUT…you’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut. The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
This message is so important because it is so true and so relevant to our lives. There is so much going on in the world around us, that if we close our eyes even for a few seconds we could miss something important. The bright colorful pictures made the book even more fun to read because the pictures weren’t just boring colors they were bright and fun to look at.

“I can read with my eyes shut” by Dr Seuss

Introduction: This book contains the story about a cat (you’ll remember him from “The Cat with the Hat ;)) who learns the benefits of reading.

Summary: It is a wonderful, small edition for children who learn to read their first words and sentences. I really liked how the author explained that you’ll enjoy the book the most if you read with “open eyes”.

The style: The rhymes and art of writing by Theodor Geisel aka Dr Seuss are remarkable simple but also effective in their way so that children can remember the book well and have fun! :)

Conclusion: It’s one of my favourite Dr Seuss books which has many funny points to laugh out loud and which has a unique style. That’s why children love it so much. I love it especially because the book shows with the help of pictures the importance of reading. I think this is a valuable message which children and even grown-ups can’t hear enough. Further I’m glad that it is funny but not silly.

A great read for people who want to read a children’s book which is entertaining and educational.

Einleitung: Das Buch ist über die Geschichte einer Katze die lernt, welche Vorteile es bringt zu lesen. Viele werden sich bestimmt an “The Cat with the Hat” erinnern ;).

Like all Dr. Seuss books, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut takes readers on a fun-filled rhyming experience lasting throughout the entire book. The book is about how the Cat in the Hat can “read” with his eyes shut, but he misses out on things when he does. And as Cat says “It’s bad for my hat and makes my eyebrows get red hot. So…reading with my eyes shut I don’t do an awful lot.” Cat explains how much more he can read with his eyes open and shares all the wonderful stuff he learns from reading.

I think that it is difficult to find a child who does not have a love for Dr. Seuss and the silliness of his writing and illustrations. I think one of the best parts of this book is how the text and illustrations go together. For example, one page reads “I can read in a circle and upside down!” and this text is in a circular pattern that ends with the text upside down. I enjoy that this makes the book interactive because the child can rotate the book to read it or connect to Cat and his ability to read upside down.

I also enjoyed that the things Cat said you can learn from books clearly show who the audience is since the things are so silly; for example, “what you should do about owls on noses.” This text includes a goofy illustration of people who literally have owls sitting on their noses. I think this is something that children would get a kick out of and would make them want to continue reading Dr. Seuss books.

Overall, I am a sucker for Dr. Seuss books and have yet to find one I do not enjoy; although, I did not rate this one very high because in comparison to his other books, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut was not my favorite. This book was not one of my favorites because I did not really understand how Cat was even claiming to read with his eyes shut. I realize this is a children’s book so it was probably just for silliness, but as an adult I just could not relate.

This is a cute children's book that is fun to read because like Dr.Suess's other books, they're colorful and rhyme. He tells all about different ways he can read, and all the things he can read about. He chooses the most random things like bees, knees on trees, anchors, etc."there are so many things you can learn about, but you'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut."It teaches a good lesson about how reading benefits you in many ways, like it can teach you to make money,or how to make music. My favorite part of this book is when they say "he more that you read, the more things you'll know
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go"The Moral of the story is that if you read, you will learn more, and learning more helps you in so many ways and takes you places you couldn't go if you didn't read.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.” This phrase captivates the entire theme of the children’s book, “I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!” Dr. Suess once again takes the idea of reading books and depicts all of the useful things that reading can help one accomplish. The Cat in the Hat starts by describing all of the ways he can read. For example, he can read upside-down, in different colors, or even with one eye. He can read really fast, very slow, or the most tricky of them all-with his eyes shut! Reading has so many advantages that can teach a child’s mind to go to new places and explore crazy ideas.
t"I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!” is one book that I was read continuously growing up. I did not always enjoy reading a book to myself and so my mom would take it upon her shoulders to get me into the habit of reading every night before bed. She loved using voices and creating new characters for different series. Dr. Suess books were my absolute favorite to read with her and “I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!” was one of the biggest hits! Through the use of the visual pictures I was able to understand exactly what was going on in this book. At the most, there are four sentences on each page and the rest of the space is filled with vivid and eye-catching drawings. I started listening to these books at the age of two and to have descriptive images such as the ones in this particular book allowed me to comprehend the overall meaning of the story quickly.
tThe best thing about most Dr. Suess books, especially “I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!”, is that readers can’t put down the book without receiving an overall message. I find it amazing that this book can be so appealing to a child through the art work and crazy sounds but also leave a child wanting to read more. This story states that reading helps people learn new things. For someone like myself, if you don’t already thoroughly enjoy reading this book will give your mind a new perspective. I would give this book 5 out of 5 starts for storyline, use of imaginative drawings, and overall message.

tDr. Seuss’, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut implements Seuss’ classic rhyme scheme, bright colors, and ridiculous phrases. The story begins explaining, in general, how and what one can read. According to the Cat in the Hat, one can read in multiple colors, multiple places, and about multiple things. After this, the book acknowledges that words such as “Mississippi, Indianapolis, and Hallelujah” can be read with one’s eyes shut, although it is apparently a VERY HARD thing to do, causing Cat in the Hat’s hat to flop and his eyebrows to get hot. The book then addresses all the things that can be read when one’s eyes remain open — books about trees, bees, and anchors, and of course sillier things such as crocodile pants and Foo-Foo the Snoo. The book states that keeping ones eyes open allows the reader to read more, and that “the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more places you learn, the more places you’ll go”.
tAlthough the book seems like a typical silly rhyming story, Dr. Seuss always uses his books to portray some deeper meaning. In I Can Read With My Eyes Shut, that deeper meaning is the importance of education and knowledge. Instead of “reading with your eyes shut”, or choosing not to become more knowledgeable, Seuss explores everything one will miss out on. From learning how to read music, learning how to earn a few dollars, or even how to make doughnuts, one must keep their mind open to new ideas. Seuss book seems to be a testament to education and one’s journey to knowledge.
tSeuss’ use of bright colors, differing texts, and varying formats draws the reader in and causes the reader to examine multiple aspects of the story. The colors highlight the Cat in the Hat’s excitement for reading and exploring new things, while the differing texts help accentuate the portrayal of the reading. Similarly, the differing formats — whether written in a circle or down a tree branch — keep the reader engaged and entertained. Seuss uses the different illustrative aspects of the story to appeal to young readers, although the intended audience essentially loses the deeper meaning. Seuss’ ability to incorporate an underlying theme and message in a children’s picture book draws in older readers as well who seek to understand the profound wisdom in each brightly colored, humorously-rhymed books.

Dr. Seuss's "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!" is a classic Dr. Seuss book. He uses clever rhyme scheme to create a story that will be appealing to both adults and children of all ages. This book in particular uses anaphora by beginning the majority of the sentences with "I can read". As children read this, they begin to gain more confidence with their reading because they can read, and they are repeatedly saying, "I can read!" One my assume that this book is simply about reading with your eyes closed, but if you look deeper, Dr. Seuss is trying to convey that reading can be fun and you should keep an open mind and let your imagination soar. If you close your eyes or your mind while you read, you will be limited to what the words are saying rather than what the words mean.

"If you read with your eyes shut, you’re likely to find
That the place where you’re going is far, far behind.
So that’s why I tell you to keep your eyes wide,
Keep them wide open ... at least on one side!" (Dr. Seuss)

Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss? The Cat in the Hat always shows that there are many ways to read in any of his books or just a book, but this is strongly shown in this book.

In this book The Cat in the Hat teaches Little Cat about all the fun things you can do while reading. He then goes to tell Little Cat that though you can even read with your eyes shut, but you can see and read so much more with your eyes open. Witch seems obvious but also a very clever remark. The Cat in the Hat show’s Little Cat all the ways you can read words and change them around to make new meanings. Making reading seem awesome! He teaches Little Cat a life lessons that Little Cat will always remember while reading.

Of course the rhyming schemes capture the readers attention (isn't that why you picked Dr. Seuss in the first place?) and they make you want to keep turning the page even faster to see what is coming next, because the world is full of opportunity's for The Cat in the Hat. The illustrations full of color make each page come to life with each word that is written. This book is a smile, you can't help it! The words and pictures easily capture the reader the moment they turn the first page. Lastly, you see that Dr. Seuss has once again created a story full of lessons and imagination that really bring this story into your life.

The book explains all of the possible scenarios of how you can read. For example, with only your left eye open or upside down. Then the book begins to talk about how valuable reading is with your eyes open. For example, what you can learn about when you pick up a book and read. This is written in rhyming couplets. SAD, GLAD and MAD are used in capital letters to rhyme plus they are all feelings. Children have the opportunity to spot the link there.
