Anybody who put me on to the path of reading I cherish and Dr. Seuss was one of those pivotal figures. My dad and mum used to read this and many other Dr. Seuss books to us as kids, and we never grew bored. Dr. Seuss' illustrations are adorable and he really taps in to children's minds. Forget the film though.

In this story, Dick and Sally are bored out of their wits on a rainy day, when The Cat in the Hat suddenly appears and their day becomes complicated, slightly weird, topsy-turvy, but also fun.

Love the style, love Seuss' rhymes - he just had the unique knack of telling great children's stories. Highly recommended as one to introduce to the children in your lives.

The Cat is an annoying jerk. Sorry not sorry. #UnpopularOpinions

A strange cat invades the house of little Sally and her brother. With their mother away and with only a little fish to object and to become the voice of reason, the Cat in the Hat can do basically whatever he wants.

This is basically a silly story without deeper meanings.

Don't wonder why the children are left alone in the house or why they let the cat in.
And in a similar way do not wonder why the cat wears a hat ( maybe because it rhymes??) and how it is possible for the fish to talk (maybe because it is funny that one of the most quite animals can actually talk and present some valid arguments??).

Anyway, this is an excellent book for children who have just started reading.
My favourite part is the appearance of Thing One and Thing Two!

I remember when I was little, I totally didn't like the movie. The cat annoyed me so much. Somehow, I got annoyed in the middle of the film and turned if off. But, I loved the book!!! I thought it will be a long one, but no. Just perfect! That's why I didn't like the movie. They took a 10-page book and made a two-hour movie.

I am 24 and I still had fun reading Dr.Seuss for the first time. Is it that cuckoo? I don't know but I loved it :)
We all have a child hidden in us. Some of us like to flaunt it and get it called cuteness and some are called immature. I am among those who like to put their guards down once in a while to enjoy the innocence and straight forwardness of the simpler times.
The book is the story of two kids who being alone at home are visited by a cat in the hat. The cat plays games with them and creates a mess for which the kids are bound to get into trouble. But eventually they sort everything out before their mother came home. Nice Na. Well I don;t know about the other guys but I was among those who being elder in the house has to stay back alone a lot of times. I raised hell once in awhile and had to run like crazy before my mother came home. This book brought back some good memories. BTW just to be clear i was never visited by a cat in the hat :(

P.S.- When you can borrow a sweet voice to sing it for you. It's like heaven. Thank You !!

n

Ding dong,
I can be a magician.

I can be anything,
But an alsatian.

The illustrations! The uproarious juggles of the feline and the mess that he leaves about.

Though the high-tech gadgets bailed the cat out but Sally and her brother should heed to the wise Goldfish in further editions :D

A total riot for children with working parents and who just manage to not bring the house down - with or without the cat.

PS : I am one such kid.

4.5 stars (5/10 hearts). I read this for the first time as a 20-year-old, reading it aloud to my 4, 7, 11, and 13 years old siblings. They loved it almost as much as I did. The story was clever and hilarious; I appreciated how it talked about not doing dumb stuff and also picking up after yourself. And it was perfectly awesome to read aloud (which is honestly why I rate it 5 stars).

This book demonstrates that a limited vocabulary doesn't mean that the story must be dull (Look, Jane, Look!). I also love the very transgressive Cat. Much like Bugs Bunny, the Cat is well-meaning (mostly) but full of jokes and tricks.

What disturbs me are the many reviewers who seem terribly concerned by the lack of supervision (it's a fantasy, folks!). In most classic children's literature, parents and other adults seem to be absent for one reason or another and children get to have adventures and choose their own activities.

Read Beverly Cleary, or Eleanor Estes, or E. Nesbit or Frances Hodgeson Burnett. In The Secret Garden, we have Mary Lennox who goes from an environment where her ayah not only does everything for her, but also controls her every minute to the moors where children could take a sandwich and spend the whole day doing what they wished outdoors. And she is healthier for it.

Even in my own childhood, I seemed to have much more freedom to not be under my parent's eye at all times. Now, because of fears that range from justified to unfounded, kids have little opportunity to go anywhere or do anything under their own steam. No wonder so many are sitting on couches, playing video games, and getting obese. Which brings its own dangers.

Its actually embarrassing how much I liked it. I love things that rhyme and I´ve never read "the cat in the hat". Adorable.
