Probably my all-time favorite Dr. Seuss books, and one of my definite favorite books as a child, "The Cat in the Hat" introduced the crazy, surreal, happily-bizarre (which describes me, so it's no wonder I was so drawn to Dr. Seuss) world of Theodore Geisel. I loved all of Dr. Seuss's books, but I didn't appreciate many of them (and their profound political statements) until later in life. "The Cat in the Hat" was one that could probably be described as his least political and therefore his most accessible for children and parents alike. I am always saddened when I hear friends or parents say that they detest Dr. Seuss, primarily because of his "liberal" views. I would, however, be curious to hear what their kids think...
This book is a classic and there is absolutely nothing I can say that hasn't already been said by countless reviewers. You really can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss, and there's a reason people from all generations are familiar with this book. This book is, put quite simply, just tons of fun to read. It doesn't matter if you are a child or an adult. Almost all of the words are sight words, so it's easy enough to read for beginners. The story is wonderfully silly, and there's a great rhythm to the rhymes that is characteristic of Dr. Seuss' books. I would highly recommend this for children 4 to 8, but it's also great practice for older kids who need help recognizing and learning rhythm in poetry.
The Cat in the Hat is probably one of the most iconic Dr. Seuss books. It is well written and teaches the kids rhyming whilst being fun in my opinion.
It is a story about two kids staying home without their parents and then enters a strange cat. The story is a bit creepy if you think too much about it but as a kid, I didn't pay that much attention to it and liked all the illustrations.
I read this to my kids. It was one of their favorite books when they were toddlers. I made funny voices, they learned basic sounds. Overall, it was a pretty memorable experience even several years later.
This is a great book. Anyone who is trying to make this book controversial is being ridiculous.
I read in English but this review is in Bahasa Indonesia
Dengan ekspektasi yang ala kadarnya, aku mencoba membaca The Cat in the Hat.
Ilustrasinya lucu. Narasinya memang betulan unik.
Ha, I know that adding this book is cheating. But I just read a very funny review by a friend, which reminded me how much the kids and I enjoyed the movie of this. Even more fun than Horton Hears a Who. The latter is the highest Dr Seuss on my list, though, for its philosophical point of view.
Personally I found the movie-Grinch rather scary. So, folks, if any of you find The Cat in the Hat scary at all, make a wide berth around watching The Grinch. He is sure to give you nightmares.
Easy-To-Read ~ Entertaining ~ Funny ~ Original ~ Whimsical ~ Witty ~ Wonderful Characters ~ Great World Building
I read this the first time when I was a child and I remember being so amazed at the whimsical humor of the book. I enjoyed reading it as an adult to my children, and this week I had the joy of reading it to my grandson for his first time. I will always remember his eyes widening at the illustrations.
A wonderful book aimed at children but enjoyable for even adults to read. One of my all-time favorites.
n n Book Reviewn n Everyone's heard of SEUSS (Dr) (I hope). 4 stars to The Cat in the Hat, an adorable children's book full of little amusing pictures and rhymes.
Kids love the absurdity. It's an opportunity for the reader to use different voices... to dress up... to be free and fun and just enjoy reading.
Though it could be used as a way to teach kids about rhymes, as well as what's real and not real... my recommendation with this one is to just HAVE FUN! Act out all the scenes. Make it a fun Saturday experience with your kids, friends, nephews, nieces, cousins.
Teach kids to enjoy reading.
