really like this as an origin story, the concept is pretty cool tbh. and there's a dinosaur, what's not to like.

Wow what a start!

World: Alphona's art is different than in Ms. Marvel, it's more basic and straight forward. That being said the facial expressions are still wonderful giving these characters personal voice and personality. The world building for is also very solid with no info dumps and what we need when we need them, this is a master storyteller at work.

Story: Paced wonderfully well and written amazingly. The story is interesting, it's unpredictable and fun. This is just an interesting premise and Vaughan just runs with it. The journey is fun and the character building is solidly tied to the main tale. Excellent.

Characters: So much personal voice and character found here. The dialog is spot on and the emotions are real and dense. The entire gang are fun and I cut wait to explore their dynamic more.

Great start to a series.

Onward to the next book!

Definitely enjoyed this book and put the next one on request at the library. I love Brian K. Vaughans saga so I definitely needed to check this one out and it was worth it. If you like anything that is related to super hero's and teens I would definitely recommend checking it out. The art work is nice and the story is fast-paced and intriguing.

Re-reading in anticipation of the TV show (which I have put off and still not watched much like my reviews here lately, shame on me)--one of my all time arcs, Runaways breaks ground in comics--creation of a group of teenagers, who when they discover their parents are all supervillains--run away from home, with the eventual show down between their parents, the Avengers, X-men (in particular Wolverine), dirty cops, a vampire, and the Gibborim, ancient giants who demand ritual sacrifices:

Despite some disappointing language in this volume, I'm intrigued by this group of kids and will likely read on soon.

This was fun, in the way that a Saturday morning cartoon is fun, and Brian K. Vaughan's teen dialog is snappy and entertaining. I can see how this is definitely appealing for a fun, funny, light read, but it just wasn't my personal cup of tea.

Great start to a new twist on superhero graphic novels. What if the kids of the villains found out about them, and decided to take them down? Each of the kids has some kind of superpower thing going for them, plus the element of surprise on their side.
It's witty and the characters are an appealing group of misfits. The main character is black, which is unusual for the genre.
I can't wait to read the second volume!

Runaways seems like fun, though I'm mostly reading it because of the crossover event with Young Avengers in Civil War. I think it's probably aimed at a younger audience than most Marvel stuff -- the characters are the same age as the Young Avengers or younger, and the art is nice but seems less mature. I enjoyed reading it, anyway, and I'm going to read more -- if only to find out who the mole mentioned in the last section is. I like that it's a mostly female team, too!

Runaways is a great idea that suffers from mediocre execution. I loved the idea of a comic where kids find out their parents are super villains. It had potential for all kinds of interesting moral dilemmas and takes place from enough away from the East Coast that all the Marvel super heroes wouldn’t be around every issue. I’d heard great things about Brian K. Vaughan’s other series, Y: The Last Man but since the library’s wait list for it was a few weeks I decided to give Runaways a try.

Runaways often reminded me of 80s cartoon shows. The villains are forced to twist logic beyond recognition to justify their actions and the dialog teeters between intentionally and unintentionally hilarious. I have to assume the target age for this comic is preteens, who might enjoy the it for the resourcefulness of the characters and interesting premise, but after reading book 1 I have no desire to go any further with the series am contemplating cancelling my hold on Vaughan’s other works.

Oh I am so sad I missed out on these comics 10 years ago when I was among the target demographic. Still a lot of fun but it would've been super fun to have been a teen, identifying that much more strongly with the characters. Now I suppose I have the nostalgia factor which is also fun. AIM handles! Cell phones too primitive to even be flip phones! Outdated pop culture references! Wonderful. Oh and there is a pet dinosaur. A. pet. dinosaur.

Charming, funny, action-packed, and might there be a hint of romance? There might :) The whole story is just made of win. Read it.

A great introduction to the characters and their group dynamic! The protagonists are all interesting and unique.

The story itself didn’t catch my attention so far, but the group looks promising.

I may even give the TV show a shot once I finish this.

Otherwise enjoyed it but thought that Molly was written as way too young for her age, given some aspects of her speech development. Since I've worked with 11-12 year olds in classroom settings, this was somewhat nails-on-chalkboard to me and it's admittedly something of a pet peeve to find in literature. But otherwise fun with engaging, likable characters.
