More reference than reading material.

Oh, did you want an explanation? Well buckle up. This book is called 10,000 Dreams Interpreted, so it's not like I was expecting meticulous research. I knew it would be a little out there, a little hippiedippie. What I didn't know was precisely how infuriated I would become upon reading it. An incomplete list of reasons why 10,000 Dreams Interpreted is trash even Oscar the Grouch wouldn't touch:⠀

1. Freud's Interpretation of Dreams was published in 1900. This book, with an almost identical name, was published in 1901. Miller was the kid who never helped with the group project and then put his name on it, amiright?⠀

2. However discredited, Freud was an actual doctor who studied the mind. Gustavus Hindman Miller, on the other hand, is described (per Wikipedia) as: "a prominent merchant, manufacturer, financier, capitalist farmer, author and public spirited citizen of Chattanooga, Tennessee." Naturally.⠀

3. The jacket claims this book is "updated with modernized text and a new introduction by Hand Holzer," who as far as I can tell, "updated" the book in 1995 while somehow managing to retain 101% of it's offensive content.⠀

4. You know, intellectually, that a book published in 1901 is going to be unapologetically Euro-centric, sexist, and racist, but STILL. When you come across passages like:⠀

"To see yourself caught among briers, forwarns that black enemies are weaving chords of calumny and perjury intricately around you and will cause you great distress..."⠀

"For young woman to dream that she impersonates a nymph, is a sign that she is using her attractions for selfish purposes, and thus for the undoing of men."⠀

They are ALL like that. All 576 pages of them. Why this book continues to be in circulation today, I'll never know. It provides nothing of value - if you opened a fortune cookie with one of these "insights" inside, you would want the two seconds it took you to read it back. If I could have the guys from Men in Black erase this book from my memory, I would.

Utterly useless book. Curiosity value only.

More of a reference type of book than a reader.

The worst dream manual out there. As a dreamworker, working analyst and Jungian, I have to say that this man's interpretations are so far off they are nearly polar opposite to the actual symbology. I was excited when I plucked this from a thrift bookstore because it is illustrated and was seemingly of great quality. I sat down while shelving to see what it had to say about dream symbols I've worked the field over, and I was shocked at how incredibly wrong C H Miller was and appalled at his lack of depth and misunderstanding of the collective unconscious which is the major source of psyche's images. This book is written by someone who had zero knowledge of the history of symbols. Throw it out.

Ok.. I dont take this as gosple but it is fun to look through. I have some major F-ed up dreams and nightmares and it is funny for me to look stuff up and realize that this book just solidifies the fact that I am bat-shit-crazy.... its fun for me...

A century ago, Gustavus Hindman Miller wrote a dictionary of words describing things experienced in dreams and gave his interpretation of them. Psychic, Linda Shields recognized that a whole lot of new words have entered the picture in the past hundred years and decided to update Miller's book. Having only a 12,000 word vocabulary of dream symbols seems adequate to this rather silly book, but I suppose people with limited vocabularies would be those most likely to attend to the ministrations of a psychic. Why my library wasted money on this drivel is beyond me!

Pretty cover but I feel like the interpretations were very point blank, they didn't give as much Information as I would of liked it too.

Wow you should expand on the way you read books, lucky i got this on the internet and i'm hoping to read this because i need to know what is it that make people to read and what can be interpreted by our dream.

Love this book! I keep it next to my bed with my dream journal to help interpret them.
