I often reference this book when trying to interpret dreams for myself or others. However, I find that a lot of the explanations provided do not always for the person or scenario. So while this may serve as a guide it is not an end all be all tool. I suggest it for those who are learning to interpret dreams but the most important tool is one's own intuition.
I purchased this book because of my interest in the topic and the beauty of the book. The introduction is complete and interesting. The layout of the book gives the reader ease of use, the topics are extensive, easy to locate with a comprehensive cross reference throughout the book. The beauty of the book is what makes it stand out among similar titles. It is unfortunate that the positive aspects of this book stop there.
I have spent extensive time studying the mind from many aspects, everything from a psychological/scientific point of view to a parapsychology/psychic/spiritual point of view. In that I have come to believe that there many truths and all areas should be considered.
From my perspective this book seems to carry a negative overtone. Not that Miller's interpretations are all negative, there just seems to be a strong negativity throughout his commentaries. This, I'm concerned, may instill needless fears in those "searching for answers". I strongly believe one truly needs to go with their own personal feelings about their dreams; if their feelings from the dream are negative it represents something negative, and if they are positive it represents something positive.
I have read several books on the subject, as well as compared interpretations between authors, in this I found Miller's "views" were much his own and not a general consensus. Not to mention he seems matter a fact in his interpretations leaving no room for personal exploration. That said, there are many other books on the subject which can guide one to their own interpretations while still providing a general meaning to what a dream symbolizes, giving individual value to each interpretation .
Mostly short interpretations. It might be a good resource to have on hand but I can’t say for sure until life plays out with what the symbols in my dreams mean. If the opposite happens then these interpretations are way off. But really isn’t the interpretation based on the individual? What a dream means to me may be very different for the next person. This book was revised and updated by two people, one being Linda Shields. She’s a professional medium and psychic. Given that, I was surprised there was no mention of spirit guides or animal guides in relation to the animals we dream about. My rating may change as I record more of my dreams, research their meanings and compare to my life’s events.
12000 interpretations simply aren't enough. Listen, if you feel like what it says about your dream is totally off, you're probably right. Take what you want from it! I dream a lot about hurricanes so apparently there's torture in my future - I'll, uh, keep you all up to date on if that happens.
I found this at goodwill and I will never regret spending $2.29 more. The interpretations fall into 3 categories: "you will be sick", painfully obvious, or overly vague. I asked three other people about their dreams and what they ended up meaning, cross referencing with answers on Google. All three said that the book was way off and that Google did it better. I agree with them that it heavily missed the mark.
