This is a really great book to think through Christian ministry direction. Parts of it sound like guided meditation, but they are good questions to ask, and good things for us to consider how God is speaking or making himself known to us.

If you are wanting to explore spiritual development this us the book for you... a thought provoking read.

Always inspires

I have read and reread Henry Nouwen books. His perspective resonates truth and inspire me. I highly recommend this book and all of his works.

This was a great book that made me think through some key aspects of spiritual formation. I particularly appreciated the way he connected being in community spiritual formation and service.l

This was a good book by a deeply spiritual man. I enjoyed the spiritual exercises at the end of every chapter. I listened to this book, but am wanting to get a physical copy to have the exercises before me.

Need to find the book and read it slowly

A book to read and reread - so much to think about and apply to my life.

Nouwen provides solid advice and practices for people looking to work on their interior life. While I would not use this book in place of spiritual direction it does start one on that path. It seems best to work for individual or small group settings. It was insightful enough that I will eventually work through it again.

Another Henri Nouwen classic. So clear and thought provoking, putting a fresh twist on so many things that are essential to the Christian life but often get forgotten. Highly recommend!

The first four chapters, or what the book referred to as Part 1, was really enjoyable. Part 1 was titled “Look Within to the Heart” which I’m assuming resonated with me more because of my tendency to internally process. I felt very known reading these beginning chapters. I didn’t care much for the rest of the book. I am a skeptic post-growing up in the Catholic church, and every once in a while Nouwen said some things that made me pause and scrunch my eyebrows. He also just told a lot of weird stories from his life which just didn’t feel necessary. Anyway, my apologies for hyping it up so much at first. Highly recommend the first four chapters!

Very spiritual

Beautiful

This has given me much food for thought and a lot to chew on. It has encouraged me and challenged me and reassured me. It is truly a book to be read and re read and discussed and cherished.
