Cuốn này ban đầu mới đọc, mình cứ tưởng nó sẽ nói về chính trị rồi rào cản giai cấp =)) không hiểu sao mình cứ nghĩ vậy =)))
Nhưng hoá ra đây lại là một câu chuyện tình yêu ngọt ngào, hai anh chị chim chuột nhau buồn cười lắm. Đây còn là những khổ cực mà nhân vật chính phải trải qua trên con đường sáng tạo ra loài hoa tulip có sắc đen tuyền không tỳ vết nữa.
Twist cứ lật qua lật lại luôn ấy mạch truyện không bị chậm chạp chán ngân tí nào luôn.

Excellent enjoyable wholesome story. Love, dedication, honesty, justice. Historical fiction (some violence) set in the Netherlands in the 17th century. And it really is about the adoration of a black tulip.

Murder! Obsession! Betrayal! Tulips!

This book was such a delight. After the murder of two men, the DeWitts, Cornelius van Baerle is accused of crimes against the state and they lock him up and throw away the key - right into the hands of a cruel and abusive jailer.

Cornelius has been working on developing the black tulip, which is both a labor of love and a task that will win him 100,000 florins if he succeeds. After Cornelius is imprisoned he falls in love with the jailer's daughter, Rosa. Thankfully Rosa returns his love and they conspire to grow the black tulip on their own while keeping it away from the man who is trying to steal the tulip and claim it as his own creation.

This was a surprisingly compelling book. I got sucked in and was completely absorbed in this tale. I even had tears in my eyes at one point towards the end.

Another great page turner from Dumas. Really enjoyed this uplifting tale.

Dumas is a fantastic story-teller. This was not published originally in periodicals (magazines) — it was published in its entirety in 1850. I found it hard to put down and at some point I could not put it down. I did not think it was going to be that good. The first chapter was the introduction of a lot of names, and it was hard to navigate it. But shortly that became a non-issue.

Wikipedia labels this book as historical fiction. It is based on the tulip craze (tulipmania) in Holland circa 1620-1637, but Dumas did not stick entirely to the facts, and from reading the Introduction of my re-issue of the book by David Coward (Professor of French, University of Leeds), it appears there are some historical inaccuracies. But the professor was not overly concerned and neither am I.

This was a thumping Goodread! If you have not read it, please consider it!

Obra típica do romantismo francês com um pano de fundo real centrado na história da Holanda no séc XVII, no auge do fascínio pelo cultivo e comercialização das tulipas.
A tentativa de criação de uma nova tulipa, perfeita e imaculadamente negra, serve de pretexto para uma história de mistério, inveja, perseguição e paixão.
Os capítulos são curtos e terminam sempre de modo a deixar o leitor ansioso pela continuação, as personagens não são muito aprofundadas, há sim, o cuidado de realçar as características positivas ou negativas que irão criar empatia ou aversão junto do leitor.
Tem uma bom ritmo e a história vai fluindo de forma equilibrada e bem humorada. Aliás, as situações caricatas que cobrem de ridículo o vilão, são deliciosas, e são também uma forma eficaz de aligeirar os acontecimentos mais dramáticos.

What a wonderfully twisty story. I adored the omnipresent narrative voice employed as Dumas plays with what we should or shouldn't know at any given time in a masterful way that leaves us guessing. I was left wondering until the last what the final outcome would be. It was even more delightful that may small decisions came together to converge in the end and create the final solution.

How can something as simple and inane as a tulip create ripples throughout society in which lives hang in the balance? Quite easily, it appears, as the importance of this flower is pressed upon the reader in a very believable way. So much so that you find yourself caring for its well being along with the characters in the story. It also offers a very vivid picture of the time in which these events took place, which I found fascinating.

I also felt that there was a subtle edge of humor to Dumas' writing more often than not, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It certainly didn't hurt that the audiobook narrator I listened to was quite talented in portraying the mood of the story.
This is definitely a classic I would read again, and I plan to add it to my collection!

Ambientato in Olanda nel 1600, il romanzo si apre con la cattura e la giustizia sommaria del popolo nei confronti di due personaggi di spicco della politica dell’Aia. Uno dei due, padrino di Cornelius van Baerle, fa recapitare al figlioccio dei documenti segreti, con la preghiera di non aprirli per non rischiare di essere accusato di tradimento.
Cornelius, amante e studioso di tulipani, una delle ricchezze del paese, è talmente preso dai suoi studi da dimenticarsi della missiva del padrino, fino a che non viene arrestato a causa dell’invidia di un altro coltivatore di bulbi, invidioso della sua fama.
Rischiando la vita, Cornelius viene imprigionato ma riesce a trovare chi si occuperà del suo bene più prezioso: i bulbi di quello che dovrebbe essere il tulipano più raro, per il quale è stato promesso un ingente premio.

Fra tecniche di coltivazione, letture a lume di candela, i primi barlumi di un amore corrisposto e subdole macchinazioni da parte del rivale, seguiamo le peripezie del protagonista e del grande Tulipano Nero, somma di tutte le mirabili caratteristiche di questo elegantissimo fiore.

Un classico che mancava fra le mie letture, con qualche flashback che l’autore inserisce per chiarire alcuni avvenimenti e tre sezioni di note a commentare personaggi, date e luoghi.
Una lettura piacevole, che sono contenta di aver fatto.

Am iubit foarte tare cartea asta când am avut primul contact cu ea, undeva prin gimnaziu. A cincea sau a șasea să tot fi fost. Țin minte că am mai citit-o încă o dată după, dar tot în gimnaziu. Deși era o versiune puțin adaptată tinerilor cititori. Acum însă m-am putut bucura cu mintea mea de adult de versiunea originală a cărții, iar adevărul este că mi-a plăcut la fel de mult ca atunci! Un roman micuț, dar plin de sentiment. Altceva nu mai zic, că toată lumea știe probabil povestea. Dar dacă nu, eu vă recomand s-o încercați, nu cred că veți regreta. Există o puritate a sentimentelor și o delimitare clară a caracterelor umane care pe mine m-a relaxat și m-a umplut de bunăvoie.
N.B. eu am parcurs versiunea audio oferită de Voxa și mi-au plăcut foarte mult atât traducerea, cât și naratoarea.

n  Laleaua neagrăn prezintă povestea lui Cornelius Van Baerle, un doctor obsedat de crearea lalelei negre, considerată la vremea aceea a opta minune a lumii. Acțiunea are loc în contextul istoric al secolului al XVII-lea în Olanda. Personajul principal este acuzat de trădare și obligat să stea pe viață în închisoare. Povestea prezintă încercările disperate ale lui Cornelius de a crește laleaua neagră în aceste condiții și relația de iubire care apare între acesta și Roza, fiica temnicerului.

Am mai citit și Contele de Monte-Cristo, operă scrisă tot de Alexandre Dumas, și mi-a plăcut foarte mult. Aici, tema principală nu este răzbunarea, ci invidia. Povestea nu este una foarte complexă, dar nu mi s-a părut plictisitoare. Am fost puțin șocată de violența oamenilor de la aceea vreme și de modul în care își făceau dreptate. Nici modul în care erau judecate persoanele pentru diverse fapte nu mi s-a părut ok. O figură interesantă a fost prințul Wilhelm de Orania, care apare doar în momentele cheie, având rolul de justițiar. Mi s-a părut un personaj viclean, dar totuși drept. Ce mi s-a părut amuzant a fost gelozia care apare între Roza și laleaua neagră, pentru că Cornelius pare mai mult preocupat de floare decât de fată. Din păcate, personajul principal nu se pricepe la vorbe și ajunge să spună lucruri care o rănesc pe fată, iar de câteva ori își iese din fire.

În concluzie, a fost o lectură plăcută, dar aș fi preferat ca personajele și acțiunea să fie dezvoltate mai mult.

Tác giả vẽ nên được nhiều bức tranh rất thú vị, mở đầu là bức tranh tàn khốc của chính trị khiến mình tưởng chừng như đây là một tác phẩm chính trị.



Nhưng không tác giả đưa chúng ta từ cũng bậc cảm xúc bi phẫn của chính trị sang bức tranh về tình yêu tuyệt mỹ. Cái cảm giác yêu thương đó lan sang cho mình, cảm giác thật là tuyệt.

Và chốt lại là bức tranh tương phản mạnh mẽ giữa yêu thương ngập tràn và sự giả dối, ganh tỵ...

Một câu chuyện hay, giúp mình đi từ cung bậc cảm xúc này sang cung bậc cảm xúc khác.

The Black Tulip is a curious sort of a story, written by the popular and prolific Aexandre Dumas (the father, not the son) it is as charming and engaging as all the works written by this author, whose work I personally adore. The story begins in the Netherlands with a historical event—the 1672 mob lynching of the Dutch Grand Pensionary (the historic equivalent to a modern Prime Minister) Johan de Witt and his brother Cornelis. This is an actual historic event which, I believe is considered by many Dutch, as one of the more embarrassing parts of their history. Under Dumas' pen it is described dramatically, with much sympathy toward the de Witt's and sarcasm about mob behaviour. So this is one point of curiosity - it is historic fiction as it was written in the 1840's but it was historic even then as it is about an event in .

Another way in which it is curious, is that it is often much more heavy in irony and sarcasm that some of Dumas' more famous works, and that the romance element is stronger, in my opinion than several other of his books.

The fictional portion of the plot is as follows; The city of Haarlem, Netherlands, has set a prize of ƒ100,000 to the person who can grow a black tulip, sparking competition between the country's best gardeners to win the money, honour and fame. The young Cornelius van Baerle, the godson of the Cornelius who was lynched, is entirely innocent of politics and has almost succeeded in developing a black tulip when his insanely jealous neighbour has him thrown into prison on a false pretense in order to steal the bulbs and win the fame and fortune for himself. In the prison, Cornelius meets the prison guard's beautiful daughter Rosa, they fall in love and conspire to grow the black tulip.

I really enjoyed this novel, it was insouciant, fun and a pleasure to read. Not as large, weighty or dramatic as other Dumas book's, but a neat and tidy tale.
