I really enjoyed this book. It gives just the right amount of backstory for Catwoman (in my opinion) and ties nicely into Frank Miller's Batman Year One. I like Selina's motivations, her relationship with her sister, and her protectiveness over Holly Robinson (who grows up to be very important in the DCU). Most importantly this book sets up the long on/off relationship with Selina and Bruce as sometimes lovers/allies - sometimes enemies. Now was the perfect time for me to go back and read this since Catwoman and Batman's romantic relationship is a huge plot point in current continuity, and this is where it begins....ending the book with their first kiss. I would say the only thing I dislike about this is the art style. It's obviously and purposefully copying Mazzucchelli's from Year One, and while stylistically it succeeds in this, it's not as good. Certain panels are too dark for my taste, and the faces don't always look the same frame to frame. Some faces, the mouths especially, are just ugly. But that doesn't detract too much from the story, and I'm happy to have this in my collection.

Appearing to me, still quite edgy and dark and dealing with murky and difficult subject matter. The use of colour works for drawing compassion away from the soulless villain. It's a good transition from (and sidequel to) Year One. I enjoyed it very much, a worthy origin story.

I'm not sure how to feel about this one. I like the main characters but there's just something off about it. The story is fast paced in a bad way, feels like I missed some pages. The lack of backstory for a few characters leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Kinda disappointing.

Storyline seemed a little rushed and confusing. Tries to piggyback on batman year one.

It was very good & it really synced well with batman year one (and continuity is always nice). Some people said they don't like it because it's way way too dark, but it really isn't The only reason that they say that is that it has rape.

It's handled pretty well (it's not some berserk type shit) it is sincere but cutthroat and not shy.

I recommend reading it right after that menu one is it makes both books feel much better.

And the ending really makes up for all the sad and depressing stuff it's bittersweet but it has a lot of expansions since it is a origin story mostly.

A little clunky, a little dated, but still a decent story. Nice dialogue between Catwoman & Batman.

A few years ago, I made a chronology for how to read modern Batman. I was focused quite a bit on creating the order, as opposed to just reading the books for enjoyment, so now I'm going back to see how the chronology holds up.

This is a companion story to Batman: Year One, and serves as a more in-depth origin for Selina Kyle. In my original review I mentioned that the snappy patter was really dated in this version, and while that's still true, there are a couple of thing that have aged well in this comic. For example, the hero cop in this story is Black, which is nice balance to the fact that the only Black character in Year One is a drug addict. It's also become more interesting to see the first kiss between Catwoman and Batman, given that they are about to be married in the current continuity.

While this certainly doesn't rise to the Classic status of Year One, it is still a somewhat enjoyable, if a little choppy, read. The interior art by J.J. Birch is far superior to the cover on the collection.

I recommend this for fans of current DC continuity, Catwoman enthusiasts, people who like their police drama to be filled with pop culture references (that are thirty years out of date), and people who wish there were a little bit more focus on Selina Kyle in Batman's origin.
