I think initially gave this book 4/5 stars and have since moved it down to 3/5 stars. I feel I am very generous when it comes to star ratings especially as I tend to rate the book as soon as I have finished it. This is something that I am working on at the moment – I hope to be a little more critical with my ratings. So this book is actually non-fiction (which I didn’t realise until I started reading it!), Mitch Albom writes of a time when he discovers that one of his University professors is dying of ALS (the same degenerative disease that Steven Hawking has) and that he only has 6 months to live. Mitch starts visit Morrie (the professor) each Tuesday and they discuss many topics such as life, love, family and then ultimately – death. Mitch tells of how his life has been altered by these touching and thought-provoking conversations with Morrie. Interviews were actually broadcast on American TV with Morrie before he passed away and these can be watched on YouTube. Overall I found it to be a really interesting read but I know I won’t be reading it again in the future – I would still recommend to all! ★ ★ ★

“The truth is, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”

I love this book so much.
This is the first time i really want to just go buy a book and give it as a gift to others.
So grateful i finally picked this one up.
Honestly, i didn’t expect it to be this good. Turns out It touches my heart.
While reading, It’s like you’re sitting, listening and learning from Morrie as well.
It’s easy to get into the story and be connected with.
Those are valuable time Mitch (the author) felt spending with his beloved coach and so i, while reading it, feel just the same.
It’s kinda like a simple story but one that we’re all needed the most.
This book covered all the major thing that matters in life and i’m so grateful for the author for writing and sharing the story with us.
I’d say this book is so meaningful it warms my heart. It teaches me and reminds me of some important stuffs. So beautiful and valuable.
I can’t help but love and want to say thanks to Morrie as well. ❤️

Loved it. So, so sad and yet so uplifting at the same time.
Tuesdays with Morrie definitely makes you look around and realise how lucky you are, and that you should make the most of life while you still can.

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”

Catching up…

I am so long overdue in writing this review. I love this author, and I obviously loved this book. So did our Library Book discussion group when I facilitated this discussion years ago. Was there even a dry eye around the group? Get your Kleenex prepared.

What is it about Albom and his books that brings out the best emotions in his readers?

Writing this review now is rather poignant. Because to me in many ways it is a love story. A love story about living and dying. A recognition about the importance of a relationship between a student and his teacher. And, a recognition that this teacher who mattered and made a difference to him as his student. How would he share this love and appreciation for him, knowing that his beloved professor was now in his final stages of life?

As Mitch decides to spend Tuesdays with Morrie he learns more important life lessons. And, sometimes it is just having those moments he is spending with him on those Tuesdays.

Do we sometimes take for granted how much we can matter to another individual in those last days?

And yet, this book isn’t just about dying. It is about living. Morrie shares…

“The truth is, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”

This book reminds us about the simplicity of kindness. To slow down. Appreciate the others in our lives. That there is something to recognize about the simple things that may happen towards the end-of-life. What we can do for another person. People are worthy. Of our time. And our attention.

So is this book.

More like a 3.5. A quick, touching read about a middle-aged man reconnecting with his old college professor, Morrie Schwartz. I did not find any of Schwartz's words of wisdom original, but I felt that he raised insights that we often forget about in an eloquent and honest way. While some may lampoon Tuesdays with Morrie for its lack of depth - especially because of all the hype surrounding it - I'm glad that some people, including one of my best friends, finds inspiration and meaning in it. After all, isn't that what books are for?
