Nikola Tesla, a very strange yet a very intellectual man. Well, the term strange I have used here is a positive adjective of course.
The other day I was watching The Big Bang Theory and his name came up. The knowledge I have of this man is very little. So, I felt like reading some more about him and this little book I found.
It is an autobiography where Mr. Tesla illustrated the journey of his invention which started in his very early age. He had a gifted mind I must say. He used to imagine things, build up machine models, come up various mechanisms in his mind! He used to count everything he could find around him. It could be the steps of the stairs or the foods on the table! Interesting, right?
In the first few pages, he mentioned that he acquired his passion for invention from his mother.
n ” My mother was an inventor of the first order and would, I believe, have achieved great things had she not been so remote from modern life and its multifold opportunities. She invented and constructed all kinds of tools and devices and wove the finest designs from thread which was spun by her.”n
These lines made me really happy. In an ancient time like that, a woman actually made herself a role model in the arena of the invention which encouraged her child! How beautiful is that!
I must say, this book is written in a fine classic language and this made me go through the dictionary a lot! Besides, Mr. Tesla used various mechanical terms throughout the whole book of which some I understood and some just passed over my head!
This book mainly focuses on the inventions Mr. Tesla came up with. But, I wanted to read more about the person actually. Still, the read was fascinating! :)
Tesla'nın çok yönlü bir insan olduğunu bilirdim ancak şu satırları okuyunca kendisine hayranlığım katlandı;
Tavsiye: Yolunuz Belgrad'a düşerse Nicola Tesla Museum'a gitmemezlik etmeyin.
p.s: Evlilik sözleşmene "İşbu sözleşmede adı geçen ABC hanım, gebeliği süresince "minnoşumu nasıl büyütmeli" vb. matbuatlar yerine Nicola Tesla "İcatlarım" matbuatının özellikle fen konularına dair olmayan cüzlerini okumakla mükelleftir." maddesi eklet. Zira burada hazır büyümüşü, nasıl büyüdüğünü anlatıyor.
Please do not read this trash. Spend 100 pages of reading on something you really want to read instead.
I expected as least some insight into his thinking, how he got his ideas, his process, his tinkering, his testing, and his production, maybe with some insight into other important aspects of becoming an inventor and visionary.
Instead, what I got was self-boasting throughout the entirety of the book. Yep, all 6 chapters were full of anecdotes on how talented and special he was. He was in fact so special, that he did all his calculations in his head, built the damn things in his head, and visualized testing them, then building them in real life. And they would work every time. Wow.
Tesla does one thing and one thing only with this book: tell you how smart Tesla is.
Oh, and tell you some stuff about his childhood and near death experiences, where he used his 5.000 IQ throbbing giga brain to solve his predicaments.
Read it if, and ONLY IF, you’re writing a BuzzFeed article on «Top 10 quirky facts you didn’t know about Nikola Tesla». Otherwise, do not read this sh*t. I’m serious.
(NB! Don’t get me wrong, his inventions have done wonders to our modern world. I’m strictly talking about this book)
Great book about one of the greatest inventors of all time. Sadly this book is "too" small and he just gives us a very brief glimpse of his inventions and ideas. I did not know many things about him before reading this book like: Tesla was involved in wireless research, Marconi actually stole the Radio idea from Tesla. I always related Tesla with alternating current and did not know that he was into wireless as well.
I also liked that his main intention for inventing something was not to get applause or make money. He did all the hard work only for the betterment of the society. I admire him for his ideas to unite the world using wireless, using aerial machines as he calls them that revolve around the Earth. "Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment and merging of races... There is in fact but one race, of many colors."
He was way ahead of his time and people did not encourage many of his brilliant ideas, which is really sad. They thought his ideas were too unpractical(he even mentions that people laughed at his ideas). But we now see those ideas were realistic since many of them have been implemented in real life.
Even though he was a scientist, he strongly believed in God!
I watched a movie sometime back about Tesla - "The Secret of Nikola Tesla(Tajna Nikole Tesla)". This movie went into the details about his life. I did not know about his involvement with Niagara project until I watched this video. Edison thought he was the "father of electricity" and couldn't tolerate another man coming up with a better form of electricity (Alternating current by Tesla). He never cared for money and he gave all his money to Westinghouse without thinking twice. Do watch it if you are interested in learning more about this man's inventions.

If your response to the question what do you think about Tesla is that it's a very cool high-tech car and you can't afford one, you are in serious need of some education. My Inventions by Nikola Tesla is a great place to start. It is his autobiography that covers his younger years in Serbia to his eventual citizenship as an American. He was one of the most prolific inventors and scientists in the world, in addition to having his name used for the high end electric vehicle. He worked for Thomas Edison for a time but after a falling out over the pros and cons of DC power favored by Edison and AC power (the overwhelming power source we all know and love today) developed by Tesla led to them becoming rivals. Developments in magnetic fields and transformers - Tesla! The technology used in wireless transmission such as radio (Marconi stole ideas from Tesla and four of his patents were eventually reversed and credited to Tesla) and television - Tesla! Many ideas used in todays space exploration - Tesla! I could go on but it would be better for you to just read this or other books about his life. He was not into the money and, after he partnered with Westinghouse to spread the benefits of AC current, he gave most of his shares back to Westinghouse. So next time anyone asks what you think about Tesla, you should at a minimum respond The Man, The Magnetic Field Strength Unit, or The Car! There are some mildly technical descriptions of his ideas that I thought the general reader with a basic grade school education...maybe high school today...should be able to follow. I have read other books about this extraordinary man, but this is directly from the source and does cover plenty of facts and information about his life. Recommended for all readers.
Such a bizarre book. Tesla was an eccentric and it's clearly seen in his writing. Incoherent thoughts, jumping up and down the timeline, unclear writing. Neither did he explain enough about his inventions in the book, nor did he speak much of his personal life. Was at least able to get through it in two hours though.
