Picks up right where Five left off …
Early in, Stephanie’s got an FTA with a brick in her car, so we’re off to the usual sort of start.

Ranger’s out on bond this time, and missing of course.
Stephanie’s got some baddies after her … again.

On a personal note: Joe proposes.

4 stars.

Audio:
The same narrator as the past several is on this one. She’s okay. Voice is pleasant enough, pretty much has the Jersey accent down.

Another entertaining, easy read. This series reminds of Beverly Hills Cop -- mystery and comedy with Plum starring as a "just as reckless but more inept" Foley. Maybe it's because there's always someone tailing Stephanie and she often ends up establishing a love-hate relationship with them. Some over-the-top scenes but the cheekiness has become endearing to me.

Okay book was great read it. That is my review. I guess I would have more to say but Ranger and Stephanie only have one or two kissing scenes. You would think he'd appreciate all the work she put in trying to save his butt from going to jail. She gets her car blown up, gets kidnapped, has to talk someone down from committing suicide, and has 2 incompetent jerks following her. Sounds like a normal day for Stephanie but an exciting read for me. As always the zingers in this book have me rolling. I am ready for the next one. Here's a favorite quote;

The dog ran into the kitchen, stuck his nose in Grandma's crotch, and snuffled.
"Dang," Grandma said. "Guess my new perfume really works. I'm gonna have to try it out at the seniors meeting."

Cute. Predictable. As usual, there's no way the reader can figure it all out because the lynchpins stay locked up between Morelli and Ranger until the reveal at the end.

This is the one about Homer Ramos, aka Guns R Us. Homer is found assassinated on the 3rd floor of a burned out building, and the last person seen on the security cameras is Ranger. Ranger has gone suspiciously missing... Stephanie is being followed by Mitchell and Habib, goons who work for Stolle, aka Drugs R Us. With the help of local ne'er-do-wells Mooner and Dougie, Steph has a pair of wheels and stays dressed (don't ask). Grandma Mazur gets her driver's license while rooming with Stephanie. Morelli sorta proposes to Stephanie (again). Ranger gives her a few sizzling kisses in between it all.

Fun, fun, fun. As long as you go along for the ride and don't think too much about it, the series stays enjoyable.

After reading the paperbacks in order, I've recently begun reading these books in their unabridged audiobook form in reverse order. I started with #8 (Hard Eight), recently finished up #7 (Seven Up) and the latest listen has been Hot Six. Reading these backwards has been an eye-opening experience and I'm now able to pinpoint exactly where things began to become repetitive for me as a reader (the very beginning of book #7, for those interested).

Hot Six has all of the wit and the fun its two follow-ups lack. Stephanie's car blow ups are still funny, the tension between Stephanie, Ranger and Joe is starting to wear thin but still shows moments of spark and the one-liners are abundant and are grin-worthy. In Hot Six things are just beginning to get that "same-old, same-old" feeling about them.

This time around Stephanie is on the hunt for fellow bounty hunter and lust interest, Ranger, who is a suspect in a murder case. Stephanie doesn't have a chance of catching Ranger and she knows it but she takes on the assignment anyway. Ranger soon visits her in the wee hours of the night and asks for her assistance in helping him prove his innocence. Agreeing to this, of course, only gets bumbling Stephanie into trouble with some very shady characters. As if that weren't enough Stephanie's every move is being followed by two inept bad guys and her nemesis Joyce (AKA the tramp who slept with Stephanie's ex-husband) who all hope to cash in when they bring in Ranger. Hot Six is also the book where we are introduced to Bob the pooping retriever with the eating disorder. I love, love, love Bob. His intestinal distress makes for many a laugh out loud moment. Rounding out the cast is the usual group of oddballs: Lula, the hilarious former prostitute, zany Grandma Mazer (who moves in with Stephanie!), Mooner & Dougie the dopey potheads and Joe Morelli the sexy cop and other object of lust in Stephanie's life.

The plot, the characters, heck just about everything about Hot Six is over the top and silly but that's why I enjoyed it. It's escapist fiction at its best.

Read by C.J. Critt this has been my favorite of the recent unabridged recordings. Critt has a full bodied voice, rich and nuanced with just a touch of sexy raspiness that never gets monotonous or over-the-top. The book was a pure pleasure to "hear" and comes highly recommended.

Another great Stephanie Plum, Bounty Hunter book.

In Hot Six, Stephanie unwillingly takes on the task of joining forces with Morelli to find Ranger (who is Stephanie's friend and mentor) as he has failed to appear for his court date and is now FTA.

Ranger was caught on tape just minutes before a building goes up in flames and there is an associated murder of a local drug dealer and son of a Trenton mobster in the burned down building.

There is also the added stress of Grandma Mazur moving in with Stephanie after she has a fight with Stephanie's father. Grandma Mazur is determined to learn how to drive so she takes driving lessons to everyone's dismay. She is again toting a gun in this book.

Stephanie also asks for favors and in turn owes favors and agrees to dog sit for a cop who says he is going out of town, which ultimately leads to Stephanie adopting a dog, Bob, who eats everything he sees.

While all of this is going on, a homicidal boxes wants Stephanie dead.

There is the addition of 2 new characters, Habib and Mitchell who outwardly follow Stephanie to see if she can lead them to Ranger. At times Stephanie let's them folllow her around and at times she tries to get away from them. The funniest part of this book was when Stephanie and Lula set fire to a bag of dog poop behind the car driven by Habib and Mitchell.

The cliffhanger from High Five is revealed ************SPOILER***********and YES, Stephanie and Ranger did sleep together.

Again, Stephanie just falls into things. This is another great book. I actually think I laughed the hardest at this book because of Stephanie's crazy antics.

Again, a 5 star read for me. Keep 'em coming.

Mystery. Stephanie Plum! Being tailed. Again! Car on fire. Again! Has an unwelcome houseguest. Again! I was warned these books get predictable, but I...didn't think it'd be this bad? Okay, okay, I'm shaking it off.

This here's the book where Ranger's wanted for questioning in connection to a fire and also a murder and has Stephanie doing stakeouts for him. During the course of the investigation, she picks up a dog and a roommate, and then a couple more roommates. Ranger's pretty frisky here. Morelli's getting antsy on account of not getting any. And Stephanie's still making the same stupid mistakes. This book really lacked focus. A lot was going on and everything felt kind of scattered and vague. More so than usual, even.

Two stars. It was still funny and hot; it just needed a stronger plot to drive it.
