Romance / Contemporary

Lizabeth Kane, a divorced woman takes a job at a construction site to support her two kids. Her new boss, Matt Hallahan is handsome guy and they are both attracted to each other. We also meet Lizabeth's two sons, her sassy aunt Elsie, and the mysterious flasher.

It was short and quick romance story. Some parts were funny and I liked it but it felt like it was missing something. Perhaps the romance moved on too quickly.

Lizabeth is fairly newly divorced with 2 boys, Billy and Jason. Lizabeth hasn't worked outside of the home for many year, even though she has a degree and her house is in dire need of repair. She has not had any luck finding a job so she decides to apply for a job as a carpenter even though she has no skills and is a very petite woman. Matt Hallahan doesn't want to hire her but he's quite taken with her determination and looks. The become interested in one another but Lizabeth has another issue to deal with. Her Aunt Elsie has moved in for the summer to help with the boys while she works. But a flasher has taken interest in Lizabeth and things get interesting.

On it's own, this book isn't great. It's a romance with mostly poor attempts at comedy. This story features some of my least favorite tropes: insta-love and fake marriage, along with far too much discussion about sex. Granted, this was published 30 years old, so maybe I'm just not impressed by the humor after reading majority of the rest of Evanovich's books. I read that this was the inspiration for the Stephanie Plum series, which I can clearly see in these characters, so for that I finished it and will read the rest of the series.

This is a cute, light read. Perfect for a time when you don't want to think or over analyze.

It requires a disbelief of reality as the love story gets too involved too quickly. I do believe in love at first sight, but...this just doesn't build up the story in a way that made that believable for me.

The characters are only so-so. I wasn't "rooting" for the happy-ever-after story.

I did like the semi plot story lines that were woven through the book--that made it a little more interesting for me!

A lot of romance novels written at this time feature brutish men basically knocking a woman over the head and dragging her back to his cave (and the woman being ok with the whole thing). It’s nice to see that some authors at that time were portraying strong, independent women and men who were attracted to and respectful of strong, independent women.

this was so sweet! I loved Lizabeth and Matt, and this was the first to get an epilogue!!! And to end with actually married characters!!!! Yay! Seriously though, their story was so sweet and fun, and even though the flasher was weird as heck, it was such a good read

There or 8 or 9 former Loveswept books that Evanovich wrote before the by the number series. This one is definitely more like the Stephanie Plum series. Very funny and I thought this would be what Stephanie would be like if she had 2 kids when she divorced her hubby.

Okay this was part of my 2015 reading challenge "a book that came out the year you were born". Okay the thing that really made my eye twitch with this book was how quickly they jumped on each other. She is a mom of two and really needs a job so she goes to apply for a job in construction and starts going off to the owner about how she needs this job because of her kids (even though she doesn't know any type of construction work) and how she really wishes she was a fairy :l Okayy He hires her because he couldn't have that he sent someone with kids away on his conscience and because he thinks shes hot. They make out on like her second day? They've know each other for like a week and she sleeps with him. Dude, your a Mother of two that so desperately needs a job that you go to a construction site to get one but you sleep with the man that hires you within a week? :/ Uhhh, okay. Just made my eye twitch.

Lizabeth is in desperate need of a job; Matt needs a construction laborer. Neither one meets the requirements but they work together anyway. When Lizabeth has a flasher outside her window, Matt becomes a "caveman" and decides to move in with her for the safety of her and her family. (Although her Aunt Elsie could kick butt!) This was a nice, short romance with a few twists because of stubbornness plus a few comedy moments due to stubbornness.

Very predictable. Evanovich uses the same character traits in most of her books. If you want to read something that is an easy read and that doesn't take a lot of imagination to get through, this is the book for you.
