I feel like 3 stars is not fair, but it's just a different format that I didn't enjoy as much as typical biographies.

The book is basically interview peices brought together to share Payton's life. The author literally has the person's name followed by their testimony of their relationship with Walter Payton. He then pieces his life in 19 sections from start to end. Walter himself offers about 1/3 of the book and comes off as deep, loving and wide-eyed about people and the world. The author finds just the right balance between famous names and those who are less well-known and family to make it interesting. It's not my favourite biography, not written like some of my favourite biographers, but it's raw and does an amazing job of giving you a sense of Walter Payton and the (way too short) life he lived.

Walter died at the young age of 45 - very young and pretty near my age. You just never know. He was always looking for the lowest person in the room. He knew that he would have the biggest impact on them. It's about making others feel special. He used his celebrity to make others feel special. No wonder he was so loved.

If the measure of a good book is the emotions that it makes the reader feel, then this book is easily five stars.

This is an inspirational book began by Walter Payton prior to his death and includes conversations and thoughts from some of his closest friends and family. Walter tells his story from his humble beginning though his final days. He talks about what motivated him to do what he did, and explains his thoughts and beliefs for living the best life possible. Walter Payton was the best football player of al time and an exceptional role model. I think every professional athlete should read this book and implement some of Walter's characteristics. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to be inspired to become a better person.

I really liked this book because the book taught how hard work never comes easy, but when you finish the job it helps you in the long run. I also liked the book because it talks about how Walter Payton never gave up and never gave up even if he was injured or in large amounts of pain during a game. The book was written very well also. Walter's life was very interesting to read about because it may talk about his game days and that was fun to read, but it talked about his actual life and how he impacted people's lives. While I read the book, I too was impacted greatly by his life and his book.

Walter Payton's book (never die easy) was a really great book. I talked about his life as a kid in Columbia, and growing up. It talked about him impacting people's lives, and how it affected them in a positive way. Walter Payton's book was less about his games, and more about his life, and why it was so important to make a person's day and so on. Walter was a great person not because he was great at football, but because he cared about every single fan and person and treated them special. In the book, they describe him many times as a person that makes you feel special when he talks to you. Walter was never able to watch the book get published because of his rare liver cancer and died never seeing the book gets published. The book was great you should read it.

I love a good sports biography, this one was unique bc of when and how it was written in light of his illness. Confirms was a true warrior he was off and in the field.

4.5/5

Walter Payton was a great football player and a greater human being. He is so much more than just a an all-time running back, and that's the way he wanted to be remember. He gives much wisdom in this book that truly show what a great leader should exemplify. Humility, hard work, unselfishness, consistency in your work, leading by example, just to name a few. A man who dealt with a lot of pain in his life but never complained. One of the better books I've read this year.

Never Die Easy: The Autobiography of Walter Payton

In the non-fiction true story Never Die Easy: The Autobiography of Walter Payton by Walter Payton, Don Yaeger is about his life growing up and his football career. The main character of this book is Walter Payton he grew up poor in Mississippi and was interest in one thing just like any other boy is, girls. He was very interested in them but he thought the only reason he thought he could get them is if he played football. He started to play the game and took football seriously after realizing he is most interested in it, so he became a running back and went to Jackson state college and became a Black college All-American. He then got drafted to the Chicago Bears and with them he became a super bowl champion, a three time league MVP, 9 time pro bowl, probowl MVP, a hall of farmer in the NFL, and a college hall of farmer and much more awards he has gotten. He was a sports figure not only in Chicago but all around the world as well, this book is an amazing book to read if you're a fan of football or autobiography books. I recommend this book if you're a sports fan, football fan, or Walter Payton fan. This book met my expectations because I have always loved reading sport autobiography books and when I saw it was a sports book about Walter Payton I really wanted to read it. I really liked this book it really caught my interest because I'm a huge sports fan and that also because we are the same position in football. I have always looked up to people like Walter he was a great man on and off the field, like being a father, creating fundraisers, donating, and just being a great role model to people and I hope to be the same when I grow up.

I loved this book. It was very emotional as it was written as Walter was dying and even after his death, so it is definitely a mix of autobiography and biography from friends, teammates, family members, coaches, and business partners. I think the other voices added to the book because Walter was never one to brag on himself. I love how Payton never was one that wanted all the glory for himself, he was a true team player and this book showed that off. Great read and very informative.
