I just love Roald Dahl books :)

Entertaining book! Well written and I love the little quirks in Dahls writing.

This book is about a father and son who live humbly in a caravan. The father teaches the boy all about mechanics and the boy picks it up quickly. One night the boy notices the father is not on his bunk and is missing and later his father tells him his deep deep dark secret - he poaches pheasants from the towns jerk of neighbor.

I wouldn't read this book to kids lol because it talks about the benefits of poaching pheasants from mind you an asshole of a man but still, kids shouldn't read this lol Don't want to give them any ideas.

I read this book to my kids and we absolutely loved it. Dahl has a way of sparking imagination. My kids loved the character Danny and wanted more and more of him. I love where Dahl goes with the story. I was skeptical in the beginning but when it was over the book left a lasting impression.

Last page from this book in the words of Roald Dahl: A message to children who have read this book When you grow up and have children of your own, do please remember something important: a stodgy(dull, unimaginative or in digestible parent is no fun at all! What a child wants and deserves is a parent who is SPARKY! (lively animated producing sparks.

The thing about Roald Dahl's books is that they can be enjoyed by both children and adults, and Danny the Champion of the World is no exception.

Easy to read, heartwarming, ridiculously humorous and showcasing a beautiful relation between father and son, this book is a delightful read.

Also, kudos to Quentin Blake, whose illustrations make all of Roald Dahl's books complete.

Book review 11 – Danny the Champion of the World – Roald Dahl

This is one of my favourite Roald Dahl books. It was bought for me as a present and since then, has always remained in my heart. This is a magnificent story of strong, and angelic relationship between a boy and his father and how their bond takes them on an unforgettable journey. Danny lives with his Dad in a simple caravan behind their petrol station. They live a happy life and both Danny and his dad enjoy each other’s company immensely. However, one night Danny wakes up in the middle of the night to find out his dad is not in his bed. It turns out that his father is hiding a secret. This secret leads Danny to be the Champion of the World. Superbly written by Roal Dahl, this book is much loved through out the world and both, child and parent can connect with this book on many different levels. I also believe that this book provides an ointment for parents in the modern era to spend precious time with their children. This book can be enjoyed by both young and old and I hope that one day I can read this book to my future class.

Danny the Champion of the World is something of an anomaly – for a start, it’s one of several Roald Dahl books that I didn’t read until my adulthood, although I now wish that I’d read it sooner because it’s a cracker. The main thing that stands out for me, though, is that it’s the only book that I know of in which Dahl’s main characters are law-breakers – they’re poachers, and Dahl portrays them as the good guys and the landowner as the antagonist.

And guess what? It works incredibly well. The story-line is gripping and engaging and both Danny and his father make for excellent protagonists – the supporting cast of characters complements them beautifully, and even Victor Hazell, the antagonist, has a three-dimensional personality. The only thing I’m not sure about is the title – it’s a fantastic title, but it doesn’t really fit with the story. Danny the Champion of the Village, perhaps, but nothing more.

I feel like there’s a moral story here somewhere, but I can’t figure out what it is – who cares, though? This is Dahl at his best, and one of a half-dozen books that you should read.

german and english review

Inhalt: Dannys Vater ist Automechaniker und ... Wilddieb!

Meine Bewertung: Wunderbare Vater-Sohn-Beziehung!!!

Summary: Can Danny and his father outsmart the villainous Mr. Hazell?

Danny has a life any boy would love—his home is a gypsy caravan, he's the youngest master car mechanic around, and his best friend is his dad, who never runs out of wonderful stories to tell. But one night Danny discovers a shocking secret that his father has kept hidden for years. Soon Danny finds himself the mastermind behind the most incredible plot ever attempted against nasty Victor Hazell, a wealthy landowner with a bad attitude. Can they pull it off? If so, Danny will truly be the champion of the world.

My review: Wonderful Father-Son relationship!!!

It is done. This is the last Roald Dahl book that I had at gome that I still had to read. Now I just have to buy two or three more.

I planned on actually finishing this book in january but life happened and some health issues, everything that isn't related to the book at all. But that's why it took my a while to actually finish this book.

The book itself isn't one of my favorites but I still enjoyed it quite a lot and had lots of fun with it. I just love books that focus on Children-Parents relationships. I especially really loved the strong bond between Danny and his single father. The story itself was just really fun and I liked it a lot.

A highlight of mine was the Good Night story about the BFG.

As this is Dahl's centenary, I've been reading lots of his books. This one surprised me. I'd always assumed it was about football! Just goes to show you shouldn't have preconceptions. In some ways, Dahl's books could be considered somewhat formulaic. But no less enjoyable for all that.
